Silence is never golden
Quietly stuck in the moment, I’m not over you
I’ll be forever lonely
Silence ain’t golden, you know that it’s only blue
“Hey Lu, how was your day with Natsu and Asuka?” Levy asked, joining her friend at the booth that the celestial mage sat at drinking her milkshake.
“Hey Levy! It was tiring keeping Asuka entertained, but we survived.” Lucy said as she looked over at the pink haired fire mage who was still with Asuka, the small girl sitting on his shoulders.
“Nothing interesting happened?” Levy asked and Lucy quickly looked back at her friend.
“Why do you ask that?” She asked quickly.
“Oh, I don’t know, you got to spend a whole day with Natsu and Asuka, you didn’t get to see what it would be like to be a family?” Levy asked and smiled sweetly at Lucy, who just glared at her friend.
“I tell you once I think Natsu is good looking, and you won’t let me live it down.” Lucy mumbled into her milkshake. Levy laughed at her friend.
“You two spend so much time together, it wouldn’t be a surprise if something else were to develop.” Lucy could feel her cheeks going red as she chanced a look back at the dragon slayer.
“And you and Gajeel?” Lucy shot back. Levy laughed sheepishly.
“Ok, you got me there Lu.” Levy said. “I’ll drop it.”
“Good.” Lucy said and went back to her milkshake. After a while Natsu joined them, Asuka back with her parents.
“Hey Levy, have you seen metal head?” He asked the solid script mage. Levy’s cheeks went bright red at the mention of the iron dragon slayer.
“N-no! Why would I know where he is?”
“He’s usually around you lately.” Natsu said with a shrug. Levy hid her face in her hands as Lucy laughed to herself.
“He isn’t here, Natsu. Why are you looking for Gajeel?” Lucy asked.
“I haven’t had a good fight yet today, could have practiced on metal head.” He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Well, other than itching for a fight, how was your day Natsu?” Levy asked.
“You’re looking at the world’s best babysitter.” Natsu said and beamed. Lucy looked over at him as he started telling Levy how his day went. “… and then she demanded that Lucy and I kiss.”
“WHAT?!” Levy screeched and looked at Lucy, eyes wide. Lucy, however, spat out the milkshake she had in her mouth when Natsu had brought that incident up. It was the one thing she was trying to avoid mentioning to Levy.
“Yeah, but Happy got in the way and I ended up kissing his butt.” Natsu grimaced and shivered at the memory. Lucy looked down at her hands to avoid the look from Levy.
“So you two never got to kiss?” Levy asked and Natsu shrugged. “Why didn’t you try again?”
“Ok Levy, that’s enough.” Lucy cut in as Natsu opened his mouth. “It doesn’t matter so can we move on.”
“I don’t think so-”
“METAL HEAD!” Levy was rudely interrupted by Natsu once he noticed the other dragon slayer enter the guild. He jumped from his seat, leaving the two girls behind.
“So, didn’t feel the need to mention this to me?” Levy asked, eyebrow raised.
“No, because it doesn’t mean anything!” Lucy hissed back quietly, looking in the direction that Natsu had run off into. “I grabbed Happy to stop the kiss.”
“Why?”
“It’s just… I didn’t want out first kiss to be like that.” Lucy admitted. “If we ever have a first kiss.”
Both girls looked over to where Natsu and Gajeel had started a fight, which very soon brought Gray into the brawl.
“Yeah, but you never know with Natsu. He was about to kiss you today.”
“I don’t want to read into that either. He probably didn’t think it was that big of a deal.” Lucy said as she finished her milkshake. “I am beat, so I think I will head home for the rest of the day. Work on my novel some more.”
“Alright, I’ll see you tomorrow, Lu.” Levy said. Lucy stood and smiled at her friend. She looked back at the brawl that was still going strong and shook her head at the boys. Exiting the guild, Lucy headed in the direction of her apartment.
“Hey Lucy, wait up!” A familiar voice called out. Lucy spun around, surprised to find Natsu running to catch up with her.
“I thought you were in the middle of a fight with the boys.” She said as he fell into step next to her.
“Nah, got boring because I beat them every time. They are fighting to see who will take me on next time.” Natsu said, smiling at her. Lucy just shook her head.
“And where is Happy?”
“Oh… he went home after what happened. Said something about needing to clean himself.”
Lucy laughed sheepishly at that comment. “Poor Happy.”
“Not really, it was his fault for getting in the way. I don’t know why he did that.” Natsu said.
“Oh… yeah… silly Happy.”
Natsu looked over at her, a frown on his face.
“Why are you being weird Lucy?”
“Weird? I’m not being weird, you’re being weird.” She shot back. Natsu’s frown deepened.
“I just asked you a question, how is that weird.”
“Today has been a weird day. Let’s just forget that this day even happened.”
“Actually, if I think about it, you have been acting weird since Asuka asked us to kiss.”
“No, I haven’t.”
“Yes, you have.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
Natsu stood in front of Lucy, blocking her path, arms crossed. Lucy looked up at his face and could see he was now being serious with what he was saying, no signs of joking around.
“Did you want to kiss Happy?”
“WHAT?!”
“That is pretty weird Lucy, but most girls have commented on how cute he is…”
Lucy just stared at the boy, not believing how oblivious he was.
“No Natsu, I did not want to kiss Happy.”
“So, you did want to kiss me then?”
“What, how did you come to that?”
“So, you don’t want to kiss me?”
“I didn’t say that either! Stop assuming things! Or better yet, drop this topic!” Lucy said and side stepped her friend. Natsu quickly spun around and fell into step next to her once again.
“Have you been kissed before, Lucy?”
“No! I mean, yes….” She trailed off. She had kissed boys before, when she was younger, but hadn’t yet had a kiss like the ones she read about in her romance novels. “And you Natsu, have you been kissed?”
“No, never thought about it.” He said. Lucy looked at him from the corner of her eye. He looked like someone who was really relaxed for the type of topic this conversation had gone towards.
“Why? Not interested in kissing?” Lucy found herself asking and felt her heart speed up. She cursed herself for asking that question.
“No, just didn’t know if I would find someone who I would want to kiss.” Natsu supplied. Lucy didn’t dare look at him after that, just nodded and increased her pace as she saw they were closer to her apartment.
“Well, this is me, so see you tomorrow Natsu!” She said very quickly and rushed inside. As she was busy getting the key out for her apartment, she felt a touch on her arm and spun around to find Natsu frowning at her.
“Are you running away from me?”
“No.”
“Seems like it.”
“Why would I be running away from you?”
Natsu looked at Lucy intensely, the same look he had when he was moving in to kiss her. Lucy could feel her cheeks heating up just thinking about it.
“Lucy, about earlier…”
“There isn’t anything to discuss or do about that.” Lucy supplied.
“I’m glad Happy interrupted it.” Natsu said instead and Lucy felt her heart drop at that. So he didn’t want to kiss her.
“Oh, well, good thing he did then.” She said and turned back to her door, inserting her key.
Once again, she felt his hand on her arm as he pulled to turn her around. Lucy opened her mouth to ask when he wanted now but was surprised to find him pulling her towards him and closed the space between their lips.
Lucy’s mind exploded when their lips touched, and it took her a moment to register what was happening. Once she could confirm that Natsu, was in fact, kissing her, she kissed him back. Her arms went around his neck as his hands went up from her waist and into her hair. Lucy shivered at the movement of his hands up her back as she tried to pull him closer to her to deepen the kiss. This was everything she was hoping a first kiss would be.
Natsu pushed her against the door and Lucy gasped at the contact, which allowed him to bite on her lower lip. Lucy tried to pull him closer to her, not wanting any space between their bodies. He pulled away slowly from the kiss but went back to give her another kiss on her bruised lip, before pulling back entirely.
Lucy’s eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him, their breathing heavy.
“I was hoping our first kiss would be something like that.” Natsu said.
“Yeah…” Lucy breathed out. “I’m glad it was.”
