Chapter 1: Caught

Chapter Text

Ever since she started dating Pearl and Marina a year and a half ago, Callie’s life had been perfect (besides the whole thing with Mr. Grizz attempting to take over the world, and Gramps almost dying). Both the Squid Sisters had somewhat faded out of the public eye. They were still extremely famous, and their music still very popular; however, aside from splatfests, they no longer made many public appearances, and people didn’t particularly care about what they were doing. Callie was content to keep it that way. She started working at a different news station (the one that reports general things, outside of the Turf War world), and had ample free time to spend on her old hobbies, or with her girlfriends, who she recently moved in with a few months ago after their world tour ended. She wouldn’t change a thing.

But of course, the comfortable stability she had worked so hard to achieve was to be cruelly ripped away from her yet again.

Yesterday, Callie had been out with Marina on a little lunch date. They had just finished eating at this noodle place they both love, and they were heading to pick up some groceries for dinner at the small corner shop on the way home. It was a perfect afternoon. Callie was telling Marina a funny story from work. After she stopped giggling, Marina let out a happy sigh and gave the Squid Sister a sweet, innocent, little peck. Little did they know, the paparazzi had seen the whole thing.

Marina and Pearl started dating shortly after the chaos vs. order fest. Given their world tour, Off the Hook’s popularity and fame has only increased, skyrocketing to levels beyond what the idol group ever dared to dream. Everyone wants to know everything about them, so it’s no surprise that it’s common knowledge that Pearl and Marina are dating. However, nobody really knows that they’re both dating Callie as well. As previously mentioned, Callie isn’t keen on going back into the spotlight. After how her own final fest ended, and the constant bombardment that followed it, both Squid Sisters found themselves quite turned off at the idea of continuing to be actively in the spotlight. Keeping this in mind, Pearl, Marina, and Callie decided that it was best to keep their relationship more private. They don’t actively hide it, all their friends and family know, but Pearl and Marina do their best to respect their girlfriend’s wishes and keep her out of the public eye, until Marina and Callie let their guards down.

The next morning, Pearl is the first to see the pictures. Her body decided to be a bitch and wake her up at 6:30 in the morning on her day off, and then had the gall to not let her fall asleep again.

Pearl, after having given up on the idea of sleep, carefully reaches over Marina (surprisingly, the heaviest sleeper of the three) to grab her phone from the bedside table (she fell asleep between Callie and Marina last night). Having nothing better to do, the rapper opens up Squidder (No, i will not be putting squid Elon Musk in my fic. I want that bitch deceased). Immediately, she sees a tweet from one of the most popular tabloid accounts with millions of comment and reposts . She curiously clicks on it, and is met by the sight of five different pictures showing Callie and Marina on their date, including a photo of their kiss.

“Shit,” the rapper mutters quietly enough to not wake either cephalopod sleeping beside her, “This is going to be a PR nightmare.”
