You Can Lean on Me

Summary:

It was nighttime at the Kess household when Margo was softly playing music in her room, drawing a picture of Hatsune Miku in her notebook with a mechanical pencil as she hummed to a tune and laughed. On the phone was her boyfriend from another dimension, Miles G. Morales, who was in his own room watching TV quietly.

This was a ritual they often did, after they both hacked into each other's watches and replicated the technology needed to make it possible to have telecommunications across dimensions.

Don't tell Miguel that though.

Work Text:

It was nighttime at the Kess household when Margo was softly playing music in her room, drawing a picture of Hatsune Miku in her notebook with a mechanical pencil as she hummed to a tune and laughed. On the phone was her boyfriend from another dimension, Miles G. Morales, who was in his own room watching TV quietly.

This was a ritual they often did, after they both hacked into each other's watches and replicated the technology needed to make it possible to have telecommunications across dimensions.

Don't tell Miguel that though.

They would often talk about each other's day, talk about any new developments, their friends, their families, and anything, everything, and nothing at all. In this way they were each other's peace, each other's safe haven, and she wouldn’t want it any other way.

"So, if Hatsune Miku is a hologram, and your avatar is a hologram, couldn't you technically make your own Miku?" Miles asked.

"I could but it wouldn't be the same, I'd rather see her sing ‘Magnet’ live in Japan like a true Otaku, ya feel me?" Margo said with a smile.

Miles laughed over the phone.

"That's cool cariño, maybe we can go one day" Miles said.

"That would be sooo fun, then we can also visit other places too like the Gundam museum, I know you'd love that too bo" Margo said.

"That sounds lit~, then I could really show you what an Otaku is. I'm gonna list off every Gundam and mobile suit there. We're also going to watch all the shows before we go too" Miles said.

Margo laughed.

"Boy there is no way we're watching over 1,000 episodes of transformers fighting, we're gonna watch some real anime like My Hero Academia" Margo said.

"Nahhh Deku sucks! Just for that we’re gonna watch Evangelion next" Miles teased.

"That's crazy because I tried to watch that with Peni once and she couldn't get past the first one. It was crazy...anyway how about we compromise and watch a little bit of everything?" Margo said.

"Bet, you know I'd watch anything with you Marg" Miles said with a smile.

"I know baby" Margo said.

"And you know I'd do anything for you right?" Miles said.

Margo paused, before she smiled lovingly near the phone again.

"I know, and I love you," Margo said.

"And I love you too, amor," Miles said.

Margo chuckled, a big smile on her face.

Suddenly in the background a loud noise was heard which made Margo flinch as she tried to decipher what it was; then one voice, two voices started arguing. The parents. Typical stuff.

"Baby you good?" Miles asked.

Margo turned up the volume on her music to drown out their arguing, but she knew even Miles could hear it at this point.

"Yeah, I'm good, they're just annoying. I wish they'd argue in their rooms at least instead of the living room" Margo said, shrugging it off.

Miles was silent for a beat before he chose his next words carefully.

"You know you don't have to stay there, right? I could come get you".

Okay maybe he wasn't that subtle.

"I know but...Miles I can't...what if they realize I'm gone?" Margo said.

"That's what the Prowler Intelligence Surveillance Sphere is for, turn it on and we'll be able to check if anyone notices on the cams over here".

"You know what that acronym spells right?" Margo says with a smirk.

"Okayy, but really...I know it’s hard over there and the Spider cult or whatever it's called used to be your place, but you have me, my mami, and my tío, and you're welcome here, anytime...You don't have to thug it out alone" Miles said.

Margo sighed and held her face in her hands after her notebook was pushed aside, and her music failed to drown out the noise complaint that was her parents’ fifth argument of the night. She wished things weren’t like this...

"I'm-"

"Please don't say you're sorry mi vida...You ain't got nothing to be sorry for. Just let me pick you up, and let me hold you at least for a little bit, okay?" Miles asked.

Margo took a huge breath in…

Screw it she helped saved the world, countless worlds, and her parents didn't even know.

She's a good student, a good daughter, and so good at everything else…. but would never be perfect enough to stop their arguing anyway.

So, who said she needed to be perfect, after all she's a superhero.

She's Spider-Byte.

So she takes a breath out, and says,

"Come get me baby"

And when Miles walks through a portal in her room to hold her tight and then lead her through it, she smiles and thinks…

She deserves all the love that life has to give,

and she needed a leap of faith, anyway.

Notes:

Nerd notes:

These two are like PB&J, and they're thick as thieves.

(This may have been shorter than the other stories in the series, but no less relatable. This was actually the first fic written in this series so it got the ball rolling. I really relate to Margo here for some of the stuff she goes through in the background of the movie, so to anyone going through a similar struggle...know that you're not alone.)

And on that note a big cheer for Margo, can't wait to see her in action in the next movie ;)

And have a Happy Summer to you all Spider-verse fans ^^/ <3
