Chapter Text
Marvin was staring at the wall. Usually, when he did this, it was because he was angry, sad, or feeling empty inside. But this night, it was none of those things. He was cradling Whizzer in his arms, breathing slowly but steadily. He was filled with happiness. This is what love was. Not exclusively lust, but the feeling that someone could make you feel so full, just by being there. Marvin wanted to jump around, twirl, and squeal. But he stayed there, Whizzer pressed against his body. Marvin lifted his arm up and down Whizzer’s back. It was quiet. The only noise was the sound of their breaths. Whizzer rolled over to sleep. Marvin still stared at the wall. Who knew, that in only two years, he could feel like a whole different person. He hardly knew that bitter man anymore. Sure, it was still him, but it never felt like that. He didn’t act out of anger. He simply stopped to admire all the little parts of life. At breakfast, he could hardly eat. He was fully focused on Whizzer most days. The way his mouth curled when he smiled, the way his hair fluffed when he woke up, his soft skin. In his defense, who would want to eat when Whizzer Brown was right in front of you? He looked at Whizzer again, passed out in their bed. Their bed. Marvin still couldn’t believe how far they’d come. But he wasn’t complaining. He much preferred things this way. He loved him. He really did. But that didn’t seem like enough. Just those words weren’t enough to describe how he felt. It was like everything in his life had been fulfilled. He wanted to scream every little thing he loved about Whizzer to the world. It was as if everything in the past would have been worth it if things could just be like how they are now. With Jason, he finally felt like a father to them. They would laugh, they would play, they enjoyed each other’s company, Which was big for Jason, who used to resent his father. When he would come over on weekends, they sometimes would go to museums. But that gap that once was there between them was gone. Marvin and Trina fought less. And though he still didn’t like Mendel, he could tolerate him. Life was a breath of fresh air now. There were some aspects of it that were difficult of course, but living felt good and Marvin liked that. He realized just how much he had been smiling. His eyes were still stuck on the wall. He didn’t know how long he had been staring at it. He looked at Whizzer and decided to lie down. Whizzer noticed and they snuggled up against each other. Marvin soon fell asleep, happy.
