Yuqi blows upwards at her newly-bleached bangs, idly spinning in her swivel chair.
As much as she loved interacting with Neverland, fancalls where she had to talk to so many of them for only 2 minutes at a time sure can be exhausting. So when staff announces the girls can take their 15 minute break, she and the rest of her members jump immediately to it; drinking their bottled water, scrolling through SNS, or even taking a quick trip to the bathroom.
Yuqi scrolls her thumb back and forth against her phone's home screen, unsure of how to relax with the spare time she had when she was feeling so restless. It just felt like she was supposed to be doing something, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She just can't seem to remember.
"Restroom," Soyeon announces simply before getting up to leave.
Yuqi watches her walk away from where they were all sat behind the long desk, and something about how small and cute the leader looked makes her brain click.
Oh, she finally remembers.
"Me too, actually!" the blonde blurts out as she stumbles forward off of her seat, rushing after Soyeon. As she scurries to leave the room, she doesn't catch the odd way the remaining three members all stared at her.
"Wow, she can't keep it in her pants for one second?" Shuhua scoffs out jokingly, causing both Miyeon and Minnie to giggle.
Yuqi knocks on the door.
"Uh, occupied," comes the awkward muffled reply from the other side.
Yuqi knocks harder, insistent. "Soyeon-ah!"
"What the— Yuqi?"
"Soyeon unnie! Let me in!"
"No!? Go away!"
"Please! It's really urgent!" Yuqi drawls out, playing up the dramatics as she usually does. She even starts knocking quicker, much to the annoyance of the other woman.
Soyeon grunts, finally giving in to her whiney member's plea. "Okay, okay! Fine. But stop doing that! Just wait, okay? I'm finishing up."
Immediately, the knocking halts. Yuqi smirks to herself, feeling accomplished in persuading her leader to believe her little trick. She had Soyeon exactly where she wanted her. Now all she had to do was wait.
It wasn't long until a flush was heard and the door unlocked. Yuqi takes it as a signal to unceremoniously barge into the bathroom, then rush to lock it again behind her with an audible click. When she turned to face Soyeon, only then did the blonde see the unconvinced smirk on the leader's face.
"Wow, can't keep it in your pants for one second?" Soyeon teased, voice lilting higher as if she was cooing at a little puppy. She raised an expectant brow at the blonde, leaning back against the wall with her arms crossed.
Yuqi's cheeks immediately flush, and she starts whining in protest, "Why does everyone keep saying that? You guys are weird." She avoids the intense look in Soyeon's eyes as she takes her phone out, desparately trying to ignore the sudden tension thickening the air.
As much as Soyeon found joy in messing with Yuqi and watching her get flustered, she still had no idea why the blonde was so insistent on barging into the bathroom with her. It's not like there was any real emergency. Not with the way Yuqi was checking herself out and patting her red shirt down with the camera app open onscreen.
Soyeon drops the teasing for now. "So what's 'really urgent' about this exactly?" She asks, voice soft yet commanding attention. "Not that I don't love you, but I'd rather not waste our break fooling around in the bathroom. Especially not at the company. We still have more fancalls to do, you know."
"What!? N-No! That's not what this is!" Yuqi squawks out, eyes wide as she furrows her brows at the shorter woman. Was that seriously the image she had among her members? She is not that desperate. Or that's what she'd like to think, at least. "It's just that we didn't get a selca together during our Fate promotions... I promised Bubble Nebobos that I would get one with you eventually, so here I am. That's all."
"Ahh," Soyeon deadpans, watching Yuqi position her arm out to perfectly frame both of them on her phone's camera. "So your brilliant idea was to hunt me down and corner me in the bathroom, of all places... I shouldn't have expected any less from genius-idol fanservice-master Song Yuqi."
Yuqi scoffs at the sarcasm in Soyeon's tone. "Well yeah, obviously? You're always the first to rush home after our schedules. It's not like I have any other chance..." It sounded a lot like she was sulking. Oh wait, she definitely was sulking. Soyeon could tell that much, with the way the blonde was now pouting up at her with her big brown doe eyes. She really was just like a grumpy little puppy. "Will you please just take this damn selca with me already?" Yuqi whines, shaking her phone at the leader to make a point.
Soyeon's lips quirk up, endeared at the sight. She gets the urge to pet the younger woman, to gently run her white nails through her bleached hair, maybe even apologize for not giving her enough attention these days. It was times like these that Soyeon would remember Yuqi really was just her dongsaeng. Adorable.
"Okay," Soyeon eventually says with a fond roll of her eyes, "Whatever you say, cutie." She leaned in closer for the camera, chest pressing against Yuqi's shoulder. She doesn't miss the way Yuqi almost drops her phone at the sudden contact, nor the pink that started glowing more on her cheeks. Soyeon smiled even wider, pleased with the effect she had on the member she loved to tease the most.
Then they pose together, with Yuqi taking several photos as she tapped her screen, then it was over as quickly as it begun. The blonde then scrolls through the selcas, monitoring which ones were good to post later and which ones to delete. "So pretty. Ah, seriously... You've done it again, Song Yuqi," She mumbles to herself, eyes glued to her phone.
"You're welcome," Soyeon says pointedly.
"Oh," Yuqi looks up and gives her leader a sheepish grin, "Of course— Thank you, jagi! I love you~" She leans close and shimmies her shoulders all silly against Soyeon, puckering her lips in an exaggerated display of aegyo.
Soyeon pets her on the head, and even puckers her lips back at her. Whether the 'urgent' selfies was all for fanservice or just an excuse to spend alone time with each other, she honestly didn't mind indulging Yuqi's wishes like this from time to time. Especially not if the blonde was going to keep being cute like this towards her. Just for her. Hers.
Eventually, they're out of the bathroom and briskly walking back to the fancall room. They knew their break was almost over. Bickering like they usually did may have risked them not being able to return on time, so naturally they picked up the pace.
"Won't Neverland ask why we were in the bathroom together?" Soyeon wonders out loud.
"Neverland can think whatever they want," Yuqi answers simply, "They already write so much fanfiction of us, anyway. Did you know YuYeon is becoming the most popular ship right now? Last time I checked, we've already passed MiMin and we're really close to catching up to SooShu in number of works—"
Soyeon bursts out laughing, bewildered at the topic of Yuqi's rambling. "What? Don't tell me you actually read those?"
Yuqi shrugs, unbothered. "Don't tell me you don't?"
Soyeon only hums in response.
When they finally return, the duo sees the rest of their members already positioned in front of the company phones to continue their fan calls. Yuqi rushes to hop back into her seat, overtaking Soyeon who continues to walk at a normal pace back to hers.
They could both feel Miyeon, Minnie, and Shuhua staring at them suspiciously from their peripheral vision as soon as they're seated. The maknae even goes as far as to fake a cough, clearing her throat in a very obvious manner.
"What? Seriously, nothing happened!" Yuqi whines, snapping her head to the left to glare at Shuhua. The latter looks away and hums innocently, pretending not to hear the other woman defending herself.
Miyeon giggles in response, wanting to join in on the teasing. "But we didn't say anything?" She pointed out, leaning forward to smirk at Yuqi from three seats away.
Meanwhile, Minnie shares a knowing look with Soyeon and raises her brow at her. The leader only smiles and waves her hand dismissively to reply. Minnie then nods and chuckles quietly with her. Of course, nothing really did happen.
Whatever weird thing the members were imagining, it was none of their business. That's what Yuqi thought to herself. What really matters is that she finally has selcas with the coolest and greatest and most talented leader ever, Jeon Soyeon. And she's finally able to post them later on Bubble for all of Neverland to see and bask in YuYeon fanservice.
