Work Text:

Winter, the season of reminiscing your life as the dreary weather takes over the sky until it is dark and you are unable to tell the time of day. Where the sun is constantly hiding behind the clouds, its rays concealed away from the world and leaving it shrouded in cold and darkness. Just as the rain patters against the ground as a reminder of the darkness swirling in your heart and thunder strikes in the skies rumbling in your very bones, memories long forgotten come crawling back in.

Megumi has never been a fan of winter. He enjoys watching the lightning be a force against the dark sky and the way he goes numb watching droplets of raindrops race against each other on his window. Although it is when his heart bleeds along with the harsh sky as moments in his life he would rather forget creep into his mind, that makes the dreary weather difficult to deal with.

However, after days of being stuck inside and the weather finally clearing up until the tears of the sky turned into snow, Megumi was finally forced out of his room.

“Fushiguro!” a cheerful bellowed before dramatically opening up the door to his dorm, “I’m finally feeling better and the storm has cleared, let’s go!”

A groan came from the pile of sheets on the bed, “No.”

A whine echoed in the room, “but Fushiguro! The snow is so pretty and I wanna go see it with you.”

With a huff, Megumi lifted his head from the mountain of sheets and was greeted with the pink-haired boy standing next to his bed and pouting. ..Cute. He thought absentmindedly before he shook the thought away, letting snow pile on top of it until it was unrecognisable.

“Ah! Have you also been sick, Fushiguro?” Itadori asked with owlish eyes as he noted red-stained eyes.

An ice shard went through the dark haired boy's heart at the mere thought of being caught in a vulnerable state.

He clears his throat, “Uh.. sure, ye–”

“Even more of a reason to see the snow! You and I deserve some fun, what do you say?” Itadori cheerfully offered.

Megumi lies on his bed, watching as his friend stood over him with puppy dog eyes and the biggest, joyful smile on his face. His smile shined so bright, that the dark haired boy was convinced that it could rival against the burning sun. It made his heart ache, his hands clenching wanting to feel the warmth for himself, but he stopped before he can indulge himself in his dreams.

With a roll of his eyes and a faux sigh, he concurs. “Fine.”

Itadori jumped up with excitement, before ordering Megumi to get ready and runs out of his dorm into his own.

Gods, Megumi thinks to himself as he cracked the bones in his body that haven’t moved in days, What the hell do I get myself into?

What the hell do I get myself into? Megumi repeats to himself with a sigh, as he stood in the snow with a scarf wrapped around him until it covered half of his face and in the thickest clothing he could find. It didn’t help, the pinpricks of the grueling winter air stung against his skin until he thought for a moment he could feel the cold air in his very heart.

“What the hell are you doing?” He deadpans, watching as his friend jumped into the deep snow and begins moving his limbs.

Itadori giggles, “Snow angels, duh. You never seen one before?”

Megumi tsks under his breath, a cloud of cold air puffing from his mouth. They are in the middle of a clearing in the forest, just a mere few minute walk away from the school grounds as Itadori had dragged his friend along.

Along with Itadori, his Demon Dogs wagged their tails beside him with excitement as he tackled them to the ground and they yapped in happiness.

With a stirring in his heart at the sight, Megumi stood on the side watching the way Itadori seems so… carefree regardless of all that he is going through. It seems as though he is so easily able to forget momentarily that he harbors a dangerous curse within his soul, that he is a ticking time bomb and that his very death awaits him. That he can put all his worries and concerts aside, and just be .. Just live, like nothing is wrong.

How? Megumi thought to himself as he watched Itadori roll around in the snow with the dogs. How can you let go of all the darkness in your heart, let go of all the wrongs that have happened in your life and be happy?

Itadori is able to shine so brightly, to push away his own dark clouds that cover his rays and still live. He has learnt how to not let all the darkness, the thunder, the hail and rain soak him until his bones are weary and instead use it as a means to continue fighting.

I want to burn in your sun rays, Megumi realized. I want to be so irrevocably close to you that your very smile sheds me of all skin and bones and you become the sun in my days.

Itadori is good. Itadori is…

A laughter echoing in the quiet of the forest clears his mind.

Itadori is perfect.

He is perfect

“Fushiguro!” He yelled with excitement, the dark haired boy not remembering the last time someone said his name with such… happiness. He is so adorned by the very thought, that he doesn’t notice a ball of white coming his way.

A snowball hits him square in the face.

Giggles echoed from the trees into his ears, until it bounced off the walls of his brain and he felt high at the very sound. Megumi is never selfish, always looking out for those he loves and always putting his needs aside. But this? This glorious sound? He wants to hear more.

“You’ve got it coming now.” He threatened with a smirk, his gloved hands digging into the snow.

From a distance and the echoes of their screams, it would seem as though a few students are practicing fighting techniques and encouraging the other to be better. What they don’t know is that there are two teenagers, both terrified of love, laughing and running in the snow allowing themselves to be children in a world that forced them to grow up too quickly. With smiles so wide and laughter even louder, the two boys feel more alive than they ever have in years.

Megumi’s heart felt as though it is bursting at the seams as laughter slipped through his lips, the darkness around his heart slowly melting away whilst he played with the boy he has dreams of. Dreams of tangled bodies, of warm touches and happiness spreading through their very veins until they’re high off the feeling.

He never allowed himself moments of peace and laughter like this, the world hardening his heart too quickly at such a young age. Megumi knew himself how quickly a daydream can be ripped away from you, how all the sunshine, hopes and dreams are stolen from the very palm of your hands. After his father abandoning him and his sister being cursed, Megumi long ago stopped himself from ever striving for happiness.

However, laying in the snow next to a boy who has secretly been on his mind since that night they met, Megumi wants to indulge himself for once. To listen to the storm in his heart, the thunderous want and need to listen to his dangerous thoughts, the hailing battering against the organ in his heart to finally let go.

Watching his friend, the boy he has been irrevocably been so obsessed with, lay in snow as pure as his heart with a smile so big makes Megumi want to finally rid himself of all doubts and anxieties, and let his selfish heart lead him for once.

Itadori turned his head, watching Megumi with a soft smile and that clears the weather in his heart. The dreary sky finally clears, and the clouds ultimately make way for the sun rays to shower the earth, in Megumi's mind all he could see was Itadori Yuuji.

“Megum–?”

Like the unexpected clearing of a storming sky, the unforeseen sunlight peeking through the clouds as the mesmerising blue sky shines in all its glory after shedding its tears across the earth, a pair of lips meet another.

Gloved hands gently hold the stricken face in front of them, until they melt in his very palms and their lips move so irrevocably slow against each other. As if they were both savouring the taste after dreaming about it for so long, each of them letting soft lips slide against the other until it felt as though their hearts might burst.

He tastes like.., Megumi pondered as their tongues slide against each other, he tastes like the epitome of the sun and all its glorious rays.

Tender, soft touches like the snow falling to the earth and Megumi has never felt more alive.

After what feels like minutes blending it into hours and then into days, their lips slowly disconnect as they look at each other with a softness neither of them knew they could hold. Redness cheeks that could be disguised from the cold decorated both of their faces, puffs of smoke etching from their mouths as they pant.

A smile that rivals the sun, “See? I told you it would be a fun day out!”

“Shut up,” Megumi hides his scoff behind a smile.

A new plant set in the earth, only moments away from sprouting after the clearing of a storm as it is surrounded by snow, and it is beautiful.
