Chapter Text
Millennia ago a God fell in love with a human
Deciding this was a disgrace to their divinity the other Gods cursed their fellow God and the human he loved so dearly, condemning them to an endless cycle of death and rebirth.
"Dazai?" Chuuya called out, opening the door to the other man's dorm at the Detective Agency. "No one's seen you for days, are you having another episode?" He said more gently this time.
Walking in on Dazai covered in blood, with wounds of his own making was not new to Nakahara Chuuya. Of course, he still felt that panicked dread every time as he rushed over and immediately checked the other's pulse. This was familiar.
Usually by now Chuuya would be sighing in relief, before treating Dazai's injuries.
This time all he could do was stare, as those lifeless amber eyes stared back, unseeing. There was no pulse.
Dazai Osamu was dead. He had been dead for a while.
"I fell in love with a human," Chuuya mumbled, in a trance, memories flashing before his eyes. Memories of the other lives he had lived, memories of the other lives he had fallen in love with the same human, over and over again.
He clutched his head with the hand not still clinging to Dazai's corpse. It hurt, his head hurt.
"It's my fault," he realised, he fell in love with a human, he doomed them to this constant cycle. "Every lifetime I will fall in love with him, and every time I will fail to save him, that's my curse,"
He reached his arms out to hug the lifeless shell of the man he loved, the man he would always love.
There was only one way for the curse to break. Chuuya knew it well, but he always remembered too late.
He just had to not fall in love with Dazai. As soon as he goes a lifetime without falling for Dazai then the curse will be over. It was impossible.
"I'm sorry," he ran his fingers through soft brown hair, "next time I won't, next time," it was a hopeless promise, Chuuya knew he could never resist Dazai Osamu.
Now that he had his memories back, he doesn't have long left. All these memories are too much for a human body to handle, soon his body and mind will shut down and he will join Dazai in death, then they will begin their new life together.
In his final moments, Chuuya clung to Dazai and didn't let go.
