Work Text:
“Is this yours?”
Minnie scoffed, arms crossed over her previously, unwrinkled blazer. Grubby hands had messed that up for her, as well as the general public forcing their way through the subway.
“No. No she is not mine. I don’t know who’s kid it is. She doesn’t even look like me!”
The other woman stood opposite her, frowning as she held onto the toddler in her arms, quietly sniffling against her shoulder. “She was standing right next to you and crying. You didn’t care?”
Minnie scoffed, rolling her eyes hard enough it hurt.
Of all the days. She had a job interview, and was not standing in front of some impressively good-looking red head scowling at her in the middle of a filthy subway like it was her fault some lost kid clung to her.
The red-haired lady scrunched her face, almost stomping her foot. The child in her arms whined louder, almost close to tears again.
“Oh come on.”
“Are you going to help me here?”
Minnie frowned, bottom lip pouting out. “No.”
“I have things to do too!”
“And I will be murdered if I don’t manage to do well in this job interview. So why should I help you?”
The child whined and flopped backwards out of the red-head’s arms, fingers managing to cling onto Minnie again. Her face hardened as she reached out and carefully managed to pull the child up against her chest, effectively ruining her blazer. Wrinkles wouldn’t impress anyone.
“Ugh… fine. Whatever. I’ll help.”
The other woman immediately brightened, crossing her arms over her chest. The crowd around them thinned out, the next train wasn’t going to be for a while.
What a fucked up way to start her morning.
Minnie reluctantly glanced down at the child. “Does she have a name anywhere? Any sort of phone number?”
The woman shook her head. “Not that I can… see. Her parents couldn’t have gone far.” She turned her face, smile softening immediately when the child caught her eyes.
Minnie’s jaw was going to permanently tense.
“Song Haeun…” She whispered, small hands clenching tighter on Minnie.
“What are your parents names? Do you know where they went?”
She shook her head.
“What are you going to do then, miss?” Minnie huffed, shifting the childs weight in her arms in a meek attempt to ease her off. Second time wasn’t the charm.
The woman flicked her hair over her shoulder, pout firmly set on her lips. “It’s Miyeon to you. Be nice to your elders. And we are going to walk around with her until we find her parents or… whoever is looking for Haeun.”
Miyeon. Older? Perfect.
“Okay then, Miyeonnie.” Minnie snarked, slowly shifting the toddlers weight to her hip, as uncomfortable as it felt. Okay, maybe she wasn’t that grubby. Getting a closer look, the toddler was rather cute. “Where did you last see your parents?”
Haeun’s finger pointed up the escalator’s, and Minnie had to try not to sigh. It was going to be a long morning.

Miyeon was frowning at her again.
For what, Minnie considered no reason and she didn’t manage to hide the eyeroll this time. She had been taking forever talking to the police officer at the station, and she was beginning to struggle keeping the kid entertained.
“Her hands are going to get all messy.” Miyeon groaned, producing a handkerchief out of her pocket.
Haeun looked up as she smiled brightly, barely minding as Miyeon cleaned up the icecream off of her fingers. “It was yummy.” She giggled.
Miyeon frowned. Again.
“What?” Minnie huffed, slowly crouching down. They were closer to the Han river now, having spent the last half an hour trying to get the kid to remember how she had even gotten there. Thought she’d been following her parents, and then somehow ended up in the subway.
Average toddler logic she struggled to wrap her head around.
Minnie picked Haeun back up to rest against her hip. The kid was okay, the icecream probably made her grubbier but she wasn’t crying. That was a little more important.
“Anyways.. while you were soo busy talking to the police, I was checking her clothes.”
“The police are sending out messages, it’s good!”
“Oh come on.” Minnie said, turning her body so she could show what she was speaking of. “Look at that, on the tag. It’s her name again, and I’m assuming her mothers name on it.”
Underneath the scrawled details of Haeun’s name again was a carefully embroidered second name.
‘Song Yuqi.’
Miyeon’s gaze softened, bringing another grin to her lips. Not half as bad as when she was scowling at her.
“That’s great and all… how is it meant to help us find her parents?”
Minnie shrugged. “Look online. Or whatever. Maybe her mum has a social presence.” She let go of the sweater to push back the bangs in her face, getting another good look at the kid. Maybe she was warming up to her.
Miyeon tilted her head, hair picking up in the wind.
Maybe if this was any other occasion, Minnie wouldn’t have been so pissed off that a pretty lady and toddler had interrupted her day.
“She’s going to get cold if we keep walking around here much longer.” Miyeon sighed, motioning her hand. Minnie had no qualms offering the toddler up into her arms. “Look, there’s a nice cafe that my friend works at. We should go there and get her to eat something substancial that isn’t going to… ugh.”
Minnie smirked. “You hate that I’m right, Miyeonnie.”
“Not your unnie.”
“You’re cute angry.”
“Oh come on-”
“Like an angry little quokka.”
“Let’s-” Miyeon almost pouted, cheeks flushing a close shade to her hair. She turned quickly. “Let’s go. Just-… be quiet. Look for her mother online.”
Minnie bit her lip and grinned. “Yes ma’am.”

Miyeon sat next to Haeun, struggling to grip the spoon as she attempted feeding herself the cafe cake she’d asked and asked for, and they had both given into.
Minnie dropped her phone to reach over, re-adjusting the spoon in Haeun’s hand. She barely blinked before she tried to take another bite.
Miyeon stared over the glass of her coffee, slowly swirling the straw through the drink. “Have you actually found anything? Or are you just staring at your phone?”
“Calm down unnie.” Minnie said, slowly shrugging off her blazer, rolling her sleeves up. She looked back at the toddler. “Haeun… is your mommy’s name Yuqi?”
That pulled her focus back.
“Uhm…” Haeun looked up at her again, back of her hand messily wiping at the buttercream on her lips. “Yes. Mommy’s name is Yuqi but mama’s name is… is Soyeon. But mommy and mama don’t want me saying real name. Mama doesn’t think it’s funny.”
Miyeon’s eyebrows raised. “So… you have two mommies?”
"I have one mommy! Mommy name is Yuqi and mama is Soyeon.”
It was a little harder getting through to the kid than expected.
Minnie leaned her elbows against the table. The police hadn’t reported back to Miyeon yet, even if it hadn’t been long. Hard to trust them.
“What do your mommy and mama do for work?”
Haeun took another stab at her cake with her spoon to bring to her lips, speaking without chewing.
“Mommy is a… mommy helps working with the tv’s. And mama makes people sing.”
Wasn’t helpful much either.
“Hold on.” Minnie said, eyes flitting back over Miyeon. She grabbed her phone again, instead punching in the other name. Nothing immediate came up until an article a little further down, praising brand new songwriter and producer Song Soyeon on the album she had co-written for an up and coming idol group. She swiped to the picture and held it in front of Haeun. “Is this her?”
Haeun smiled immediately, nodding her head. “That mama!”
Minnie’s smug smile returned back to Miyeon. “Well would you look at that unnie. Don’t need the police at all to help us when you’ve got my brains. I’m not surprised there’s not much up in that pretty head of yours.”
Miyeon scowled, lips pouting and manicured hands gripping the table. “You’re lucky we’re just trying to help this kid. I could have done it without you.”
“And you still asked for my help.” Minnie turned her phone, having managed to pull up Soyeon’s socials. “I’ll message her and we can go meet up with them.”
Miyeon looked at Haeun and sighed. “My handkerchief is already dirty. And it was the cute dove design too.”
Minnie bit her lip to the sound of her whine. Too cute and annoying it did her head in. “Stop pouting like that.” She groaned. She dragged her precious pack of napkins out of her purse to open, wiping Haeun’s lips clean for her.

Haeun was wriggling in Minnie’s arm like an overly excited dog to be let down.
Soyeon had responded over her Instagram almost immediately, clearly as panicked as she should have been. They’d swapped phone numbers and agreed to meet up at park which wasn’t far from them at all. At least they were close and Haeun hadn’t wound up on the other side of Seoul.
“It’s mama! Mama and mummy!” Haeun whined.
“Where?” Miyeon asked her, grabbing at Minnie to help drop her down on the ground before she’d hurt herself.
Hurrying down the pathway in the distant was clearly the couple, one desperately dragging the other after. Minnie recognised Soyeon by her black shaggy hair, assuming the almost puppy-like brown haired girl as the other woman.
Reluctantly letting go, Haeun sprinted full on towards the couple, almost smacking into them. Yuqi - she assumed - reached out to swoop her up before she could, immediately cradling her.
“Come on.” Miyeon grumbled, grabbing Minnie’s hand to drag her along also.
She tried to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.
”Oh my god-” Yuqi gasped, eyes puffy and her cheeks still wet with tears as she hugged onto Haeun tightly. “Oh my god… you guys are- you guys are life savers. Thank you- oh my god… w-we were so- so worried and…”
Miyeon brightened and gently waved her hand. “Please. It’s okay… she was lovely. No hassle to us at all. Right Minnie?”
She slowly turned her head, staring over Miyeon.
This was more worth skipping a job interview than it should have been.
“Yes. She was a sweetheart. No issue to us at all.” Minnie smiled, watching the way the toddler tried to help wipe off the tears from Yuqi’s face.
Soyeon seemed a little more composed than her partner did besides her, even with her arms tightly around the woman and their child.
“How did this happen?”
Soyeon laughed a little wearily, fingers smoothing back Haeun’s hair. “It’s a little embarrassing. Actually- we were going to pick up Yuqi-ah from set where they were working and got down in the subway. I thought she was still holding onto me but I didn’t realise until I got on the train and… by that point the train doors were closing.”
“A-And then… then Soyeonnie called me and- oh my god I was so so so worried… I couldn’t- even think! And I met her and I was like ‘so… what do we do? Do we go to the police? What if she was kidnapped? What if she fell somewhere? What if she was hurt?’-” Yuqi gasped, voice still shuddering despite her attempts to ease herself.
“-and then when we managed to meet up here you messaged.” Soyeon finished for her, breathing deeply herself before she turned to face the two of them. “I don’t know how we can thank you enough for this. Knowing our little girl was safe in the hands of two clearly capable people means so much to us.”
Minnie shrugged and grinned. “She’s such a cutie, and so well mannered. We had lot’s of fun today, didn’t we Haeun?”
Haeun smiled and nodded. “Me and miss Minnie and miss Miyeon lots fun! And… and I have icecream and cake and yummy drink.” She giggled, curling her head against Yuqi’s chest. “See again soon?”
Yuqi faintly laughed, hands wiping at her eyes. She nodded. “Yes… yes of course. We’d love to meet up with them again soon. Right?”
Minnie stared at Miyeon, smiling a little gentler.
“Yeah. If you could stand to be around me a little longer unnie.”
Miyeon scoff couldn’t hide her smile. “Oh please. I could deal with you all day if I had to.”
Minnie laughed, reaching for her hand to squeeze. “We’d like that.”
Yuqi quickly grinned, still bright red in the face. Haeun smiled just like her.
“Perfect! Oh- Soyeonnie… we could go somewhere on a double date with them. I’ve always wanted to try going on a double date with people before but our friends never wanna.”
Minnie and Miyeon groaned in unison, quickly dropping their hands.
Not dating, as cute as the way Miyeon smiled was.
