Work Text:
Y/N would work only a few days a week at the Port Mafia. This is because she still does some work at the hospital, helping out the nurses and assisting some doctors, putting in as much effort as she can.
"Whoa. Y/N." Her best friends says the moment they see each other. "Look at you. How many hours is your shift?"
The younger of the two rubs one eye, fully knowing that she doesn't look her best at the moment. "Just the usual. I'm doing some studying when I get home," she admits, which isn't a lie at all.
She puts extra effort to learn about wounds and bandaging. Due to the Port Mafia having members with minor injuries like cuts and bullet wounds, she needs to know how to tend to them.
Not that they usually ask for help, though. Especially the Executives.
"I'm doing my residency, but don't look as exhausted as you. Take a break, okay?"
"Thanks for the concern. I will."
But having a break is not something she can really do if she wants to be of use to the Mafia.
Later that evening, she gets a call from Hirotsu about his group being heavily injured. She immediately drops the book she was reading and heads out.
Black Lizard is the group that Y/N often hears about but has never treated any of their injuries. They've had their fair share of tea, though.
"Hirotsu-san, what can I do for you?" Despite running through the streets and halls to get to the Port Mafia quarters, Y/N doesn't waste time to work.
She meets Hirotsu outside the clinic, taking notice of the calm demeanor of the old man.
"Most of them have deep wounds, but Tachihara took quite a tough fall."
Tachihara. His face comes to Y/N's mind. They've never interacted before, but she's seen him around.
"I'll do my best."
Schooling her face, she enters the clinic. The smell of disinfectant immediately hits her nose, and the small noises of pain become audible. Nothing out of the ordinary after a fight.
Most of them were being treated already, so Y/N goes straight to Tachihara. He's standing at the corner of the room, carrying supplies in his hands but failing to use them.
"Tachihara-san, let me." She takes one look at him before reaching for the bandages in his grasps.
"I-"
"Hirotsu-san personally called me to help," she cuts him off sharply. "You haven't lost much blood but dislocated your shoulder. Unless you want to pass out from fatigue, please sit down so I can treat you."
No one is paying attention to them despite all the people in the room. Somehow, this made Tachihara give up in being stubborn and allow Y/N to treat him.
She carefully helps him on a empty bed. "Now, Tachihara-san," she began, taking his left wrist with a small smile. "This may hurt a little..."
Before Tachihara can even comprehend her actions, a pop in his shoulder makes him yelp and hiss. "Shit!"
"There you go." Y/N proceeds to gently put his now good arm down to the side. "Where else are you hurt?" She takes a step back and observes the figure of her patient.
He visibly tenses, unused to the way he's being looked at for injuries. "Wait..." He breathes in, circling his arm around his stomach. "I'm fine. I can handle the rest."
She gives him a blank stare. "Fine. You can try doing that while I get tea."
Slowly, Tachihara takes off his jacket and shirt. He doesn't understand how Y/N had figured out his injuries. He's sure he had hidden them well, acting normal despite the soreness and pain he can feel from his body.
The possibility of her using an ability comes to mind. However, he knows that her ability isn't like that at all.
Too lost in his thoughts, he couldn't focus on bandaging his abdomen. He's halfway through wrapping the cohesive bandage when Y/N comes back.
"So you have internal bleeding." She says, setting a tea cup down on the nearest table by the bed. "You don't need to trouble yourself with bandages." She reaches her hand for the said material, and begins to unwrap.
Tachihara is too tired by now to reject the help. "How did you know?" He asks, mostly due to curiosity.
She focuses her eyes on her task, knowing that their proximity may cause discomfort for Tachihara. "Abnormal posture, but no blood. You were taking deep breaths, and moved stiffly."
"Just from those?"
"I took a guess."
Bandage completely off, Tachihara suddenly feels too bare without anything covering his upper body. "Thanks, I guess."
He covers his mouth to cough, and Y/N takes that as a sign to pass him the tea cup. "You can thank me by drinking this. It'll quicken your recovery."
He grimaces slightly at the bitter smell. Not very strong but he has his preferences.
"It was the only flavor left," Y/N says upon seeing the reaction. "I usually make the sweet ones, but we've ran out already."
"No, um, that's okay." Tachihara feels like he offended her without even trying. He takes a quick sip to prove something.
"You had a dislocated shoulder, internal bleeding in your stomach, and I believe a couple of bruises on your back," she reports smoothly. "The tea and some sleep will get you to perfect health quickly. But if you're not feeling better tomorrow, please come see me."
Tachihara is not used to the medical treatment. Usually, he'd patch up his wounds to the best of his abilities and move on to the next mission if he has no time to rest. If any medics were to help him, they'd be done with it quickly and leave. Yet the woman in front of him is sincere.
"I'll leave you now to rest, Tachihara-san." Y/N leaves, needing to check up on other members and restock her tea.
She had originally thought that Tachihara had life threatening injuries, based on Hirotsu's words. He appeared calm when she saw him earlier, but when one looks close enough they would see the firm hold of his cane and the downturn of his lips as well as the twitch of his brows—no doubt signs of worry.
And yet Tachihara is alive, able to finish their mission with just a dislocated shoulder and bruises, very little injuries for a mafioso.

She's making new batches of tea in the kitchen, in case anyone needs it for the rest of the day. And she orders a new batch of flavors for next time as well knowing that some members like to drink her remedies after a tough mission.
No one usually hangs around the kitchen like her, and not even outside the medical hall unless they need to get treated. So Y/N temporarily stops her movements when she hears voices and footsteps outside.
"That wasn't so bad of a mission, right, old man?" She recognizes Tachihara's voice quickly.
"Indeed." Answered the old man, who Y/N recognizes as Hirotsu.
"Hmm. But you know what? That nurse who helped me gave me weird vibes."
"Why so?"
Y/N completely stops what she was doing, staying still, patiently awaiting for Tachihara's answer.
"I dunno. She just... Kinda knew what was going on with me without properly checking."
Then it seems like the two of them stopped walking, just enough distance from the agape kitchen door for Y/N to still hear them.
"Doesn't she have, like, a weak ability?" Tachihara continues on without much thought.
"Yes. However, I heard from the boss that she's a professional doctor. Perhaps her medical skill is the reason why she was recruited."
"Huh. I didn't think of that."
"Let's go meet up with Gin now."
Y/N goes back to making tea, thinking about what she just heard. She didn't understand what Tachihara meant about weird vibes. Was he simply not accustomed to being treated?
She decides to not dwell on those thoughts and finish her task.
