                                                jelly beans

Stargate Command

Level 17 - Colonel O’Neill’s office

Scratches head while looking around feeling perhaps there had been a Reetou in his office. Their cloaking ability making them invisible would have been perfect for jelly bean snatching. Again, peering underneath his desk, pulling out desk drawers, and searching nearly everything else in the room, O’Neill came up with nada.

Then it hit him, picking up his phone he punched in a number. “Yo! Kiddo, were you down in my office recently… say, like today?” The other end of his conversation had him frowning. “Uh, okay. You wanna know what’s the problem? Oh it’s no big deal. Never mind. Catch ya in a few.” Placing the receiver down in its cradle, he continued to stare at it. How could an entire jar of candy disappear like that? It’s a mystery he needed to solve.

Walking briskly down the long corridors, O’Neill paused at hearing a partial conversation going on between his second-in-command and the big guy. Waiting for them to finish, he mosied on over. “Your stash gone missing too” His brown eyes shifted from Carter to Teal’c and back again.

“Yes, Sir.” Carter’s head bobbed. “I had a dish full of jelly beans on my lab table and next thing I know *poof,” she made a hand motion in the air, much like a magician would, “they disappeared.”

“I too have suffered the same loss.” Bowing his head in thought, Teal’c then addressed the colonel. “It would appear that a jelly bean thief is somewhere on the base.”

Signaling to his teammates to come with, O’Neill led them down the yellow brick road. However, they were detained when bumping into Siler and Walter. The latter wearing a fierce scowl.

“Walter, have you bitten into something sour?” Swiveling his head, encountering Siler’s puzzled expression, O’Neill chuckled. “Or perhaps you’re missing some jelly beans.” Once he mentioned the candy, both officers nodded their agreement. “Think I’ll go check on my kid to see if our candy meister struck there too.”

Smiling at the men, Carter told them that if they found anything useful they’ll let them know.

Level 20 - Archaeology Department

With a quick rap on Danny’s door Jack, with his entourage, entered the office. He smiled fondly watching his son pouring over the latest artifact that SG-4 dropped into the boy’s lap. “Hey, kiddo.” Walking over to him he ruffled Danny’s hair. That’s when he noticed a jar full of jelly beans resting peacefully on the munchkin’s desk. “Hey word’s out that there’s a candy fanatic stealing these,” he tapped the jar with a finger. Reaching into it, he popped a few pieces in his mouth to which his munchkin took exception.

“Hey! You’ve got your own, dad!”

“Apparently not.” Eyeballing the room, Jack’s gaze came to settle on Bastet. The feline rested in a most uncomfortable position with her head upside down staring unblinkingly at him, looking for all the world a picture of innocence.

“Sir,” Carter whispered, “remember, she can turn invisible.”

“Indeed.” Teal’c’s deep timber rumbled softly in O’Neill’s other ear.

Bending down on one knee, being careful of his old injury, Jack and Bastet’s eyes met even with her head twisted like that. Wagging a finger at her, he frowned. “Drop the act… I know you were involved.”

“Child, what’s Jack talking about?”

Delicately placing the artifact off to the side, Daniel smiled. “Dad thinks you’re the one whose been stealing the candy.”

Bastet kept her own council on the matter, while making herself more comfortable, tail gently swishing back and forth.

“You know I’m gonna keep digging until I find out,” Jack warned, gingerly getting back up. Shaking his one leg out, he left the room without saying anything further to Danny.

When Teal’c and Sam left with dad, Daniel went over to one of his storage cabinets to unlock it. By themselves now, there hadn’t been a need for him to speak telepathically. “Maybe we should have told them why I had you take the candy.” Once he opened it, out spilled bags full of jelly beans.

“You were hesitant that Jack would agree to you going off-world to PX5-791 to distribute the jelly beans to the children living there.”

“My plan to sneak off with SG-2 hinges on multiple factors, ‘B’,” Daniel sighed. “Easter’s nearly here and I know it’s not a holiday over there but I feel that every kid should have the opportunity to enjoy what we have here.” He continued to stare at the jelly beans his pet had taken for him. Thinking back to Lou’s mission report on PX5-791, the children appeared malnourished. Daniel knew that the SGC had been going to help distribute out healthy food to the inhabitants living there. Also they were going to help show them how to grow their own food.

Locking the cabinet back up, he went back to his artifact. “And I know dad thinks I’m too young to go through the gate yet but, nourishing meals aside, nothing had been mentioned about including candy. So I felt this a nice idea and personally wanted to handle it.”

“Oh you do… do you?” Knowing there had been more to meet the eye when Jack had stepped into his son’s domain, he’d double backed and heard everything. “Lou’s team won’t have any difficulty doing that all on their own.” Shaking a finger at his kid, annoyance crossed his face. “Bet you had her princessiness go invisible to swipe all those jelly beans.”

“Tell Jack I am very good at what I do, little one.” She had been rather proud of herself for accomplishing her task.

Laughing, Daniel repeated that to dad. “’B’s pretty smug about it too.”

Shooting the cat a sharp look, Jack’s lips quirked.

“And there’s more,” mumbling, Daniel pointed to a huge storage cabinet where he usually placed important artifacts. “It’s pretty full too.” Observing dad’s eyebrow shoot up, along with a low whistle, Daniel threw him the key.

“I’ll call in some help to remove all of this and have Siler place the candy in the M.A.L.P.’s storage compartment.” Again, Jack ruffled short stuff’s hair. “I’ll make sure to have Lou tell the kids there who was behind the idea. I’ll even show them a picture of you and lady 'B'.” He held up a finger. “But we’ve got a lot of unhappy campers right here missing their jelly beans.”

“Uh, we didn’t touch General Hammond’s,” Daniel admitted with a sly look.

“You little suck up.” Chuckling, Jack went to the phone. “Hey, Siler, found all the missing candy but here’s the thing…”
