Twitch Streamer Yuuji & Youtuber Megumi: Valentine's Day

Summary:

A special chapter of Twitch Streamer Yuuji & Youtuber Megumi where Megumi and Yuuji go on a Valentine's Day date.

Notes:

Hi!! This is a special chapter of Twitch Streamer Yuuji & Youtuber Megumi. It doesn't fit with the rest of the story since I had things already plotted out but I got this idea two days and wrote and edited in before today to post it! The timing of this in the main story isn't specific but it's sometime after Gojo and Geto get back together.

I've been having really terrible writer's block recently and have been struggling to write anything, but this idea happened and I wrote bunch. So I'm hoping that this means the writer's block is over :D

I have a Twitter where I post fic writing updates, jjk stuff, and cats sometimes.

Thank you for reading!! I hope yall enjoy this silly little fic! <3333

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Normally, Yuuji would plan to wear his yellow hoodie for a date with Megumi, but yellow isn’t a Valentine’s day color. And he has a whole plan for Valentine’s Day and as much as he knows Megumi likes his yellow hoodie, it isn’t the vibe for today.

No. He had gone shopping with Todo for fashion advice, of course. He now has a deep red button up shirt and fancy black pants to wear for this date. He also dragged Sukuna along for the shopping adventure, even though his annoying brother insisted he had better things to do. Somehow.

Like helping Yuuji get ready for a date with the love of his life isn’t crucial brother bonding time. What else was Sukuna going to do? Study? Write papers? Nope, not on Yuuji’s watch.

So yeah, now he has a fancy red shirt to wear to the date today.

Yuuji buttons it up and stares into his dorm bathroom mirror. Maybe he’d feel more fancy if he wasn’t getting ready in his crappy dorm bathroom.

“If you spend any more time freaking out in the mirror I’m going to resort to violence.” Sukuna says from the room they unfortunately still share.

“What?” Yuuji tries to make his hair look fancier like Todo showed him. “Like throwing pillows at me? I’ve gotten used to that so you’re going to have to find a new tactic.”

“Fine, I’ll resort to something more extreme.”

“Sure.” Yuuji looks at himself again. He looks fancy, definitely more fancy than usual and that’s his goal. He was the one to invite Megumi on the date. “Go ahead and try that. I’m sure Choso will have something to say.”

He can hear Sukuna saying something that’s probably a bunch of swearing. Yuuji walks out of the bathroom and into their room, holding his arms out as he poses. “Alright, what do you think?”

Sukuna makes a face, his usual ugly combination of tired, disgusted, judgmental, and also impassive all at once. It’s a very distinctly Sukuna expression. He blinks once, in a way that’s also somehow judgemental. “The fabric is low quality and you look like a middle schooler trying to dress up for his first formal dance where he’s going to make everyone embarrassed from seeing him attempt to slow dance with his date.”

Yuuji’s mouth drops open. “Okay wow, bro, tell me how you really feel then.”

Sukuna looks back at his book with a single shrug. “You asked what I thought.”

“I asked for your thoughts, not for you to roast me. Geez.” Yuuji sighs. “You have bad taste anyway–”

“Sure.”

“Anyways, I’ve got to go pick Megumi up. I’m gonna be late if I don’t hurry up.”

Sukuna briefly glances back up from his book. “Don’t you need a tie or something?”

Yuuji freezes half-way to grab his keys. “A tie?”

“Yeah, you know what a tie is.”

Yuuji quickly whips around, looking for the deep red and gold tie Todo had helped him pick out yesterday. “How could I forget that?” Yuuji throws his blankets off his bed. Where is it? He knows he bought one.

He tosses his pillows behind him and there’s nothing but his various chargers.

“How do you lose that?” Sukuna asks, from his throne of pillows and definitely not helping at all. Why is he always so unbothered? “Also did you even iron that shirt?”

Yuuji pops up from underneath his bed. “I did! I know how to iron! Grandpa made sure I did! Stop judging me! You could help me, you know?”

Sukuna slowly flips a page of his page. “I don’t think I will. Your date, your problem. I helped you get the first date, I’ve done my good samaritan job for another decade.”

Yuuji looks at him. “I swear, if you hid it somewhere, I will fist fight you.”

He flips another page. “I didn’t. But also, you’re going to be late. You’re going to have to go without your tie.”

Yuuji looks at his phone and looks at the time. He screams when he sees the time and the two texts from Megumi.

Megumi: Yuuji, is everything okay?

Megumi: Should I head to the restaurant now?

Yuuji screeches and grabs his jacket and runs out of the dorm with Sukuna’s loud cackling following him. He’s starting to think Sukuna was a demon in a past life or something.

Yuuji runs all the way to the restaurant, while trying to text Megumi at the same time. People look at him while he’s running, probably thinking he is some hooligan or something. But he has bigger concerns than random people. He can’t be late. They agreed to meet at seven for dinner.

He runs around a corner street and immediately focuses on Megumi. He is waiting at the corner of the local restaurant Yuuji chose for the date tonight and Yuuji absolutely, completely trips over his feet. Megumi is wearing a fancy looking red shirt.

Yuuji drops the flowers and he quickly picks them up. They’re fine. It’s okay. They’re already been on dates and everything is great. “Megumi!”

Megumi turns and Yuuji is yet again reminded that Megumi is so pretty and also cute. Did he mention that Megumi is cute? Yuuji runs to him, already smiling.

“Happy Valentine’s Day!” Yuuji holds out the flowers like he didn’t just drop them a few seconds ago. “Be my valentine?”

Megumi smiles, his cheeks definitely turn a little pink as he takes the pink, white, and red flowers. “Yuuji, you already asked me that as soon as it turned midnight today.”

Yuuji laughs, still smiling. “I know, but that was a text! I needed to ask you in person too.”

Megumi’s face definitely gets pink. “You’re ridiculous.”

Yuuji smiles even wider. “Of course, I’m your boyfriend! I have to be ridiculous.”

Megumi covers his face with a hand. “Yuuji–”

Yuuji grins. “Okay! Let’s go to dinner!”

They walk up to the restaurant and the host stand. The woman smiles. “Hello! Can I help you?”

Yuuji smiles. “Yeah, could we have a table for two?”

The woman’s smile fades a little bit. “Oh, well, unfortunately, the restaurant is full.”

Yuuji feels like dying right now. This has to be some kind of cosmic joke or something. “Wait, what do you mean the restaurant is full?”

The hostess smiles apologetically, holding a list on a clipboard in her hands. “I’m so sorry, but all of our tables are full tonight. Valentine’s day is always busy. We usually have been reserving tables for tonight months in advance.”

Yuuji looks at Megumi, feeling like the world is crashing down around him. Megumi’s expression hadn’t even changed. Is that a good or a bad thing? “ Months ? Months, for real?”

She nods, still looking apologetic. “Months. Sometimes people book in December or November to be sure they get a table.”

Yuuji slumps his shoulders. All his planning and ideas for their date is now ruined because he didn’t know he needed to book a table months in advance. What is wrong with people? His date night with Megumi is ruined now. This is the worst possible outcome.

“Thank you,” Megumi says, unbothered somehow while Yuuji is full-on panicking in his mind. He is still holding the bouquet that Yuuji bought him. “I appreciate you trying to help us.”

Yuuji is close to crying. How could he not think about this? Now his date with Megumi is potentially ruined.

“Yuuji,” Megumi says, his voice calm. “I promise it’s okay.”

Megumi waits for him then starts walking. Yuuji quickly follows after him, he buries his face in his hands. “I’m so so sorry, Megumi. I really thought there would be a table. This place is, like, always empty. Why does it have to be busy today?”

“Yuuji,” Megumi says, laughing a little bit. “I’m not mad at all. It’s not the end of the world.”

Yuuji lowers his hands, feeling close to crying and his eyes almost watering. “But I had a whole plan for our date and it was going to be super fun and romantic and–”

Megumi smiles at him and all of Yuuji’s thoughts fly out of his head. His boyfriend is so cute and also his eyes are a really, really pretty green. “Yuuji, I promise it’s okay. We can have an impromptu date then. Make it up as we go.”

Yuuji pauses. “Really?”

He had never thought about doing a spontaneous date before. But isn’t that kind of how their very first date went, when they first meet each other in-person for the first time?

Megumi nods. “Come on.”

Well, no matter what, Yuujii is just happy he’s on a date with Megumi actually.

They go to the college supermarket near the college campus. It’s almost entirely deserted and empty. But there’s a million different little sales on Valentine’s Day items, all heavily marked down now. Megumi heads down the candy and chocolate aisle, Yuuji happily trailing behind him.

The place is a bit dingy and it never looks like it is fully stocked, but for their purposes Megumi supposes this will work. The whole place is decorated with Valentine’s Day themed items, including heart cut-outs taped to the wall and pink streams hanging from the ceiling.

The store is playing only love songs over the radio, which sort of makes this more date-like.

“Ooh, the giant box of chocolates is on sale.” Yuuji says, stopping to point at a giant box in the shape of a heart. “I can’t believe how cheap this is.”

Yuuji grabs it and he struggles to hold it from how big it is. He’s holding it with both of his arms, but he’s grinning behind the metallic red heart box. “This is a great idea! We can do a chocolate sampling or something.”

Megumi smiles and he carefully picks out several bags of chocolates Yuuji has mentioned in the past. Yuuji comes back with a cart, which he stands on the back and rolls down the aisle beside Megumi. Yuuji rolls ahead and grabs a small blanket with a heart print.

“Ooh, what if we had a picnic beside the river?” Yuuji asks, smiling excitedly. And Megumi hopes that the warmth in his face isn’t too noticeable. “That’d be super cute and romantic and fun!”

Megumi nods. “I think that’s a good idea.”

Yuuji’s smile gets even bigger. “This is the best! We need to get more food then!”

So Megumi walks beside Yuuji’s while he glides on the cart. He would feel a little silly wearing such fancy clothes in a college supermarket, but Yuuji’s excitement and enthusiasm makes it much easier for him to ignore his embarrassment and self-consciousness.

They get a pack of pre-made subs from the deli and some containers of sides as well. They put some silverware into the cart and Yuuji rolls into the drink aisle. He grabs a bottle of sparkling grape juice.

“This is a million times better than wine, for sure!” Yuuji says then he gasps. ‘Oh my god, I just got the best idea.”

He scurries over to the end of the aisle and comes back with a box with two plastic wine cups. “So we’re fancy.”

Megumi laughs.

Megumi is at game night in the living room. Gojo and Geto are intensely arguing about Uno rules and the particular house rules, Tsumiki is laughing at them, and Toji looks like he would rather be anywhere but here.

“It’s house rules though!” Gojo says, trying to force five cards into Geto’s deck of cards. “You have to take these cards! No cheating.”

First they tried to play Monopoly, but Megumi had stopped that half-way through before Gojo and his dad were at each other’s throats. So they had tried Scrabble, but Gojo got bored of that. So now he’s resorted to their old, worn Uno set.

He looks at the time.

11:58 pm.

How are they still arguing about this?

“But we aren’t at our house, Satoru,” Geto says, still smiling as he calmly puts the cards back onto the draw pile. “Our house rules don’t count. We’re in the Fushiguro household, so that rule doesn’t apply. I still only have two cards, whether you like it or not.”

“But I’m Megumi’s godfather!” Gojo says, shoving his sunglasses up. “I’m part of the family! So ha! It counts–”

“You are not.” Toji says, a hand over his face. “Last I remember your last name is Gojo, not Fushiguro. Thank god.”

Gojo gasps, dropping his cards. He covers his mouth with a hand. “So you do know that my name isn’t clown? Who would’ve thought. Can you all believe this momentous occasion?”

Toji looks ready to fight him. “I swear to god–”

Megumi’s phone buzzes. 12:00 am.

Yuuji: MEGUMI MEGUMI MEGUMI

Yuuji: WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE’S DAY??? <3333

A photo pops up of a selfie of Yuuji making a half heart and smiling even though it’s mostly dark around him. He’s also holding up a piece of paper saying Will You Be My Valentine’s? With a large heart drawn underneath it.

Megumi freezes, staring at the text from Yuuji, blinking. Everyone continues arguing while he quickly sends a text.

Megumi: It’s midnight, Yuuji

Yuuji: YOU DIDN’T ANSWER

Yuuji: WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE’S??

Yuuji: Pls say yes because we’re dating and I forced Sukuna to take that photo and I risked my life forcing him to do that

Megumi covers his face with a hand, trying to ignore the warmth in it. And he prays that nobody notices.

Megumi: Yes, of course.

Megumi: I thought that was a given

Yuuji: YESSSSS I GET TO BE MEGUMI’S VALENTINE THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER YESSSSSS

Yuuji: Just had a pillow thrown at my head for being too loud apparently haha

Yuuji: ALSO

Yuuji: DATE TODAY AT 7PM

Megumi tries to hide the laughter. Gojo immediately leans in, grinning widely, always on the lookout for teasing material. “Oh? Texting during game night? What’s going on, Gumi?”

Megumi immediately hides his phone. “Stop snooping.”

Gojo’s grin grows. “Is that a certain twitch streamer?”

Megumi’s face gets warmer. “Can’t you just argue about Uno rules with Geto and not bother me?”

Tsumiki laughs. “Is it your boyfriend?”

Megumi’s face just gets warmer.

Gojo leans in closer, straining his neck to look at Megumi’s phone screen. “Megumi, why are you torturing your godfather like this? I thought you loved me.” He drags out the last word until Megumi is annoyed by the sound of it.

Tsumiki just laughs again. Even his own sister has betrayed him.

His dad covers his face with both hands. “I can’t believe this.” His dad says, muffled by his hands. “When did he grow up?”

Megumi sighs. “I swear, why–”

Tsumiki pats Toji’s shoulder, still smiling emphatically. Gojo tries to snatch Megumi’s phone and Megumi moves to put Geto between them for protection. Geto happily stops Gojo.

Geto then holds up his cards. “So do I win the argument about the Uno rules then?”

His family is so weird, he loves them of course, but they’re still weird.

They walk over to the riverside, all mostly empty since it’s nighttime now. It’s warm enough that it’s comfortable to be outside, which Megumi is very happy about. He hates being chilly. They are carrying plastic bags filled with the stuff for their impromptu date.

Yuuji lays out the blanket on the grass, with a perfect view of the river, the city on the other side of the bridge, the golden lights reflected on the water.

Megumi thinks he imagines the first drop of water.

So he opens another bag of chocolates for Yuuji to try and then he thinks he feels a second drop hit his hand. He pauses and glances up. There doesn’t seem to be that many clouds, right?

But he got some random chocolate flavors that Yuuji might like. Spiced orange, sour raspberry, strawberry. All of those sounded like something Yuuji would like to try.

Yuuji pops a spiced orange one into his mouth. “Whoa, I don’t know what I expected but it’s definitely spiced orange.”

Megumi furrows his brows. “What does that mean?”

Yuuji chews on it, looking thoughtful. “Kind of like if I ate an orange slice, a bite of chocolate, and ate a spoonful of cinnamon all at once.”

Megumi laughs.

Yuuji starts carefully pouring two plastic wine glasses full of sparkling grape juice. “This was such a great idea. I was really worried the date was going to be messed up when she said there weren’t any more tables. But this is actually way more fun! I’m glad you suggested we do this spontaneous date instead.”

Megumi laughs, putting out the paper plates for the subs still in the package. “I think I’ve changed for the better since we’ve met.”

Yuuji looks at him, his eyes wide. “Really?”

Megumi nods, not looking him in the eyes because that would be too much all at once. “Before we met, I mean really met in person and not through the internet, I was not the most flexible. I’m glad that changed, because this is really fun. I never would have thought about this before now.”

Yuuji’s smile gets even bigger. “I’m so glad! You have no idea. I mean, you’ve watched my streams I was kind of crazy about you–”

“Kind of?” Megumi raises an eyebrow and Yuuji pauses. “Was?”

Yuuji blinks a couple of times then he grins, handing Megumi a plastic wine glass. “Well, definitely crazy and I still am. Very proudly actually.”

Megumi is about to say something else when something splashed into his plastic wine glass. It makes it splash and ripple for a moment. What was that? He pauses and looks down. Then he looks back up and makes eye contact with Yuuji.

He looks up. “Was that…”

A raindrop lands on Megumi’s face. Another lands on the back of his hand.

And then there’s several more all at once. Oh no.

Rain begins falling faster and faster, the familiar dripping sound of rain hitting the ground. The sound echoes from the river as well. Everything is quickly getting wet as well. His shirt is soaked already and his shoes and also his pants.

No. They’re on a date, this can’t be happening. What is happening? He tries to cover up his head, but it’s not really doing anything with how fast it suddenly started raining and the fact they’re completely out in the open.

He begins to scramble to put things away, trying to put the foods back into the plastic bags. “This is the worst possible timing! Maybe we can find somewhere with a cover nearby.”

Their date is ruined. On Valentine’s day too. Why did he even suggest this spontaneous date?

This is the worst possible–

Yuuji starts laughing first, and Megumi freezes where he was putting the chocolate boxes into a bag. Yuuji falls back against the cheap, random blanket they got at the college supermarket and keeps laughing. He sits there, stunned and slightly confused, frozen from where he was about to put things away.

“The way nothing went right this whole date is actually so hilarious!” Yuuji says, smiling even though he’s getting entirely drenched by the sudden, random downpour. His hair has gone from its usual fluffy state to flat from all the rain.

But it’s true. Not a single thing has gone the way they planned today.

Then he can’t stop himself from laughing. Yuuji’s own bright, happy joy is enough for him to echo it. He can’t stop himself from laughing. And then they’re both laughing as they get drenched in rain when it wasn’t supposed to even rain today at all.

Yuuji shoves his pink hair out of his face, grinning widely. “Literally nothing went how it was supposed to. But this was still so much fun! I mean, what else can you do but laugh?”

Megumi tries to push his own soaked hair out of his face, but it still sticks to his skin and gets just slightly in his eyes. Normally, he would be annoyed by all of the mishaps from today.

Megumi tries to push his own soaked hair out of his face. It sticks to his face. It’s impossible to control everything, so why let it ruin everything? But right now, all he can do is laugh from the sheer joy on Yuuji’s face. “We really do have the most random luck, don’t we?”

Yuuji throws his head back laughing, joyful despite how nothing has gone right today. “It’s actually like a rom-com movie when you think about it! Our whole relationship is just one right rom-com movie plot.”

Megumi laughs with him. Maybe if he was in any other situation he would be upset, but how could he be upset with Yuuji here?

And he has never been more happy to have let Nobara pester him into helping her find out some random twitch streamer’s mystery crush before.
