Work Text:
Inspired by Divide Music’s “ All That’s Left ”.
Mismatched eyes swept over the horizons of the Dream’s Edge.
Gentle music, once something that warmed his heart not even hours ago… now only froze his heart over with hate.
I think back to when we were young. Long before the end of what's to come.
It was unfair. The universe was unfair. Cold and cruel.
When I saw you fall, my heart went cold.
He gripped the railings tightly, the steel bending and whining under his strength. He imagined it as the monster who took Firefly from him. He imagined it as whatever killed Robin.
I faded away
His blue and violet eyes hardened slightly. “...Frost.” He softly called out into the void, as a moment later, the familiar presence of his alter surfaced.
…How could I be the one to stay?
“What do you need?” Frost’s voice was soft, hoarse. He sounded just as much as an emotional wreck as him.
Ryu’s grip on the railings only tightened as he remembered the soulmates that he had lost. He barely knew them. And now he wouldn’t.
“We’re going to kill whatever is at fault,” Frost’s voice was soothing, trying to calm him down. “We’ll avenge them, brother.”
“I know.” Ryu’s reply was curt, as the railing he was gripping finally shattered due to a mixture of his strength and his leaking ice magic, freezing the metal.
I'm taking all that's left, one more with every step. I never wanted less, your life was mine to bless. I'll lay them all to rest to fill my empty chest.
He wanted blood. He wouldn’t stop until the blood of everything that was at fault for this nightmare was on his hands.
He was forced, raised to be a weapon. Now, he would take the role again, all too willingly.
For his ember light, who helped him feel like a human again. And for the songstress he only saw in his dreams.
I cry out.
Only blood would warm his cold heart now.
