Chapter Text
"Morte" Kaure sighed quietly. I knew enough Spanish for that one.
Edward was frozen again, staring after her with the tortured expression fixed on his face. Kaure walked out of the room, and I wanted to beg her to stay, so I wouldn't have to be alone with Edward and that expression. But a few moments later, I heard a boat's engine putter to life and then fade into the distance.
Edward did not move until I started for the bathroom. As I turned his hand caught my shoulder, and I flinched.
"Where are you going?" he growled, as if everything was my fault.
"I'm just going to brush my teeth." I lied.
"I'm going with you," he insisted, and I looked away.
"Edward, I want to get home as soon as possible," he relaxed at that. "Could you . . . pack some of the food? You know, in case I get hungry again."
His eyes softened, "Of course, Bella, we'll be home in just a few hours and this will all be over. I love you."
I nodded, not trusting my voice.
He turned and left the room, our suitcases in tow. As soon as I was sure he had actually left the floor, I whirled and scooped up the phone he'd left on the counter. It was very unlike him to forget things- I should make sure he didn't forget anything else in his hast. I knew he'd yell at me, thinking I'd left them. After all, I was still the clumsy human.
I turned on the phone, searching Rosalie's name in the contacts. I was relieved he had the sound off, afraid that he would catch me. I couldn't let him catch me. I didn't know what he'd do- sometimes Edward was rather unpredictable, loving one moment, and fuming the next.
Would he be at the boat now?
Would he hear me if I whispered?
What would happen to me then?
I found the contact I wanted, one I had never had an excuse to call before. I pressed the call button and crossed my fingers.
"Hello?" the voice like golden wind chimes and heaven answered.
"Rosalie," I whispered. 'It's me, Bella. Please. You have to help me."
"I-What?" Rosalie sputtered. When Bella had called her she almost hadn't picked up. But Rosalie couldn’t not answer Bella.
"I need you Rosalie." At that, Rosalie's finger's tightened around the phone. Bella continued, words tumbling out of her mouth. "Please, I found out today, I'm pregnant. Edward is going to kill our baby. But I want to keep it-no I need to." Bella whispered.
Rosalie hesitated,
"Please Rose, he's coming back. Please-"
“Of course.” The phone shut.
Rosalie sat in shock. Bella was pregnant, pregnant with Edward’s child. Oh god, her stomach twisted.
From downstairs she heard Edward call Carlisle, Edward assuring Bella that they’d get “it” out of her. No, he wouldn’t. . . would he? Bella’s phone call indicated that he was taking the choice away from her. Unless she hadn’t spoken to him about it yet? But either way, Rosalie would protect Bella, even from her husband.
A knock interrupted Rosalie's thoughts.
"Come in Alice."
Hesitantly, Alice entered Rosalie's room, her feet making a sound on Rosalie's black rug. And the look on her face made Rosalie regard her warily.
"Rosalie, I've just seen some things I think I should, um, we should discuss."
"I already know Alice,” Rosalie groaned, her head in her hands.
"Oh. You know?"
"Bella just called me about it."
Alice frowned, "But Rosalie, they're on their honeymoon!"
"Not for long," She muttered.
"How could you do this to Edward?" Alice gasped. "I know you've never liked him but really? And so soon after the wedding?"
"Wait, what do you mean?" Rosalie replied confused. "Alice, Bella just called to tell me about the baby. Isn't that what you mean?"
Alice didn't respond and tension filled the room.
"Alice?" Rosalie looked up to her stunned face.
"So I take it that wasn't what you were going to tell me?"
"No," Alice said slowly. "On second thought, I think I can’t tell you quite yet. This changes. . . everything."
"Seriously Alice?" Rosalie rolled her eyes. She was always such a tease. Really, of all people, why did Alice have to be the seer?
Alice shrugged. "Sorry, life isn't fair."
"You don't have to tell me that, Alice." Their eyes met and Alice looked down, ashamed.
"Well, what does Edward think about it?"
"He wants to kill the baby, Bella wants to keep it."
"Oh. . ." Alice trailed off. "Oh, I think I understand now."
Rosalie tapped her foot anxiously. She could change a bad outcome, she just needed to know how. They were vampires for god's sake.
"Alice, tell me what you saw."
Rosalie searched Alice's face for a clue of what she saw but Alice was as enigmatic as usual.
"Alice I need to know," Rosalie snapped, a mixture of anger and worry creasing her brow.
"I really can't tell you Rosalie! If you can't already figure it out . . . then maybe he does deserve it."
Rosalie frowned, Alice couldn't possibly be saying she'd kill Edward, right? Alice cared too much for the douchebag to say he deserved to die.
Maybe Alice saw Rosalie protecting Bella from Edward and misinterpreted it? That seemed the only likely explanation, after all, she'd promised she'd stay away from Bella. The human was happy with Edward, and that was the most important thing, even if Rosalie might be. . . No, don't think about it.
"When are we picking Bells and Edward up?" Alice asked.
"Didn’t you hear Carlisle, Alice," Rosalie frowned. "3 am."
Without another word, Alice left the room, leaving Rosalie staring after her bewildered.
Feeling trapped in her room, Rosalie paced in the forest. She could feel it, Bella was hurt. She needed to be there, God why wasn't she there? No, it was good, Rosealie reminded herself, Bella was her sister in law, her brother’s husband.
But Edward wasn’t deep in the forest with her, neither was jasper; and so she let herself think and feel freely.
