Work Text:
It started as a truly beautiful day.
Rain and thunder in the distance.
The ever soothing sound of raindrops on the window.
Dark atmosphere in her room even with all the colours on the other side.
After the break, she was back in her room in Nevermore.
Two remarkably uneventful months.
Everything was back into place. Her cello and typewriter ready for use.
Same for the other side of the room. Minus the tape, it was like they never left for break, like any other day during last term. She didn’t know when Enid got there, but obviously before her.
She wished they would have unpacked together.
She was annoyed at herself for not picking up her phone even once during break to ask.
How come?
She does like trouble and investigation.
So many things happened last term, she truly had a blast.
Sure, not all of them were good (and she made her best to let her cold nature keep the bad memories away so far), but she considered the whole thing as a good experience.
As annoying as it was to admit it, her parents were right and she really felt like she had a place at Nevermore Academy.
She still wanted no part in teenage gossip and drama, except if it came in the form of subtle and unexpected torture.
Hell’s forbid that she would ever use her phone for social media or the likes.
But if she wanted to be honest, it wasn’t really those points that mattered.
More than the academy, it was this very room that she belonged to.
The room arrangement was somewhat weird, but it made sense, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She only needed her phone to reach one single person.
After letting her natural coldness submerging her during break, being back in their room, threw her off balance, and all the things that happened during the previous term hit her again. Her thoughts were going all over the place.
Her hand moved by itself to the scar on her belly… But she stopped herself quickly. She couldn’t go there without the coldness yet. She weren’t sure she needed to in the first place.
On to distractive memories. She had had so many new experiences and first tries, it weren’t really a challenge.
Making a friend, Eugene, and failing him after.
Despite her best attempt, taking part in the student live and drama
Wrongly accusing Xavier.
And romance… Ugh. Tyler. As rewarding as adding a relationship with a maniac was for her resume, she couldn’t think of a good reason for being attracted to him in the first place.
Being made a fool by him and Mrs. Thornhill…
But even the best needs to learn, and all those were good lessons.
The next step was using those failures as a lessons and do better next time.
And during all this… Enid.
Her presence, her support, all the times she were annoying, cheerful, speaking too loud, touchy, friendly, invasive, warm, nice, thoughtful, moody, sulking, the birthday cake, the matching snood, the look on her face before she ran to her and hugged her…
The memories were getting wild and out of control, she had to stop herself at that point.
Even the best needs to learn, and all those were good lessons.
The next step was using those failures as a lessons and do better next time.
It was when Wednesday realised.
She was in a serious predicament this time.
She didn’t mind all the colours on the other side of the room anymore.
The ridiculous and vomit inducing rainbow on the window.
The itch she used to have non stop when she were in her shared room.
Not that it was ever unpleasant in a bad way.
When she would look anywhere on the other side - everything would remind her of her roommate.
But she wasn’t used to think about other people. Not only was she living with the girl, but she was also starting to invade her prised alone-time.
It’s not that she felt lonely - she always were and always will be a loner.
She doesn’t long for people presence.
Just one she-wolf girl.
