Work Text:
The sound of the shower turning off Dick stepped out of the caves bathroom with a new set of clothes. He came over today with the plan of patrolling with Damian but since he was at a movie with his friends he decided to come over and surprise him when he got home. To say he got bored waiting for Damian after the half hour mark was easy so he spent some time working out while he waited. Now clean after he showed Dick check the time.
9:27. Which was weird since Damian should already be home. He was about to go upstairs when the batmobile came roaring into the cave. Dick turned around ready to great his dad when the words died on his tongue. There in Bruce’s arms was a limp body.
It was small.
Why was the body so small?
Why was Bruce bringing a body to the cave?
Dick stared in shock at the body as Bruce came rushing by with his son. Brother. Damian. As the body of Damian came into view.
He fallowed after the bat as the world fell silent around him, the words finally coming to him as he reached the bed where Damian was laid.
“Hey Damian, I’m home do you want to go watch a movie.”
No response.
“Damian baby, come on wake up.”
No response.
“Damian please wake up. Come on just wake up. Please.”
Dick was bagging now. Shaking the unmoving boy no not unmoving that is like death no Damian was just sleeping.
He was dead.
Dick was shaking he wasn’t sure if it was from trying to wake up Damian or the adrenaline corsing through hus vaines. A hand touched his shoulder and the world came back to him.
“…chum please. Your need to breathe. Dam-“
Dick wiped around all sorrow on his face gone and replaced with a new
furry that Bruce had never seen before.
“Don’t you say his name. This is your fault. You were supposed to protect him. This is all your fault Bruce.”
Bruce stumbled back as if he had been struck. “Dick-“ he tried angin.
“No Bruce, you killed him. He should have been safe. You should behave protected him. His death is your fault.”
Dick sent one last look at the man he thought was his father. He grabbed his bag that he brought and got on his bick with the clear thought in his mind.
Those who killed his son were going to pay.
