JJ knocked on the door, wanting to get in from the cold as soon as she could and her prayers were answered when David opened the door and ushered her in. “How many times do I need to tell you, you have a key please use it.”
“And I will continue to tell you I don’t want to be rude.” The two smiled at each other and David handed her a cup of hot chocolate and nodded his head towards the living area that was filled with noise already.
They walked in together and she was met with Spencer and Jack trying to turn Emily into a decoration as they ran around her with tinsel. She was laughing at the two of them and JJ relaxed as she let the day wash off her to spend time with her family.
Derek and Penelope were recording the chaos, and Hotch was sitting back with a smile as the three chaotic ones started to laugh louder when Emily got out of her tinsel prison and started to chase Jack around.
David sat beside Hotch, both of them nursing a cup of whiskey, JJ could see that Hotch had almost drunk none, probably in case Jack needed him later. He never fully relaxed until late at night then his armor came off and he smiled more.
“Right. Listen up we have a mission today, I need this place to be decorated fully for Christmas because Santa won’t stop by if it’s not.” David looked at Jack as he spoke and the boy gasped.
“Santa needs to stop here! You need to get presents!” JJ laughed as the boy started to stare at the box of decorations on the floor and the plain tree in the corner.
“Daddy you can carry the heavy things with Derek, JJ and Emily you need to decorate the rest of the room. Penny, Spence, and Uncle Dave and I will make the tree pretty.” Jack looked very much in charge as he gave everyone their roles and they all nodded.
“You are just like your dad.” David grinned and Jack looked at him with a proud look in his eyes. “Well you all heard the boss, let's get going.”
The seven of them got to work with the things Jack hands them and JJ moved to the table where Emily had placed her things down. They looked at them for a few minutes, listening to Jack give instructions to the others as they made a plan as well.
“I’m thinking we put the tinsel and lights around the cabinets and then put the baubles hanging from the lights.” JJ said after surveying the room and Emily nodded her agreement. They worked well together, singing the Christmas songs that Hotch had put on and after half an hour the room was done.
The tree has been decorated well, and they all watched as Hotch picked Jack up to put the star on top. “Merry Christmas Jack.” He whispered softly.
