Work Text:
12:00AM and he can't sleep at all. Although he rolls to the other side of his bed and closes his eyes, he's simply not able to fall asleep.
Something was keeping him up, and this time it wasn't a sudden burst of creativy for a new song, nor random intrusive thoughts that he would prefer not to explain right now; but a third thing.
His partner.
His singing partner, Toya.
But not in a weird way, of course not. They were just friends, very good friends. Or at least that's how he views him. (Though some people inside their unit seem to differ from that.)
He just... can't keep him out of his mind. Remembering how he looks, how pretty Toya is. Akito often would stare at his partner, so he remember his features, his likes and dislikes, and even his mannerisms; like the way he speaks in a soft tone, how when he laughs he tends to cover his mouth with his hand, or even that specific expression he makes when he would call his name.
Yeah, those descriptions were kinda specific but, it's because he knows him very well! Nothing else.
Yeah, they're nothing more than a pair of friends.
...
Well, now he's certainly embarrassed! Great. That was just what he needed right now.
Akito is not dealing with these kind of feelings tonight, not again, so he decides to force himself to sleep. Though what he sees seems to not help at all.
A memory comes to his mind and decides to torment him by being very realistic and, of fucking course, by featuring Toya.
He starts to remember that one time they stayed at Akito's house after a live because it was near the event place. Though he wasn't the only one there, Kohane and An were invited too.
During the night, the two girls were peacefully sleeping on the bed while the two boys were sleeping on the spare futon of the house.
Everything was fine, until he feels Toya moving in his sleep to the other side. And he certainly could endure his head slightly touching his own, even the boy's breath hitting the back of his neck while feeling his chest go up and down; but what he could certainly not endure was Toya hugging his waist. He tried to not mind it but that just made it harder to ignore, so much so that he could feel the heat of his face without even touching it.
'Maybe I can move his arms?' Akito thought to himself.
It didn't work.
Unconsciously, he rolled to the other side. Now facing the taller boy, who was half asleep half awake. Was he doing this on purpose? Akito wasn't sure anymore.
They stare at each others eyes without exchanging a word. They didn't need them.
They get closer and closer until they could feel their own breaths and their noses bumping. The short one bringing one of his hand up, touching his partner's face gently, thumb pressing on his lower lip. He closes his eyes as he gets closer and—
A phone buzzing sounds from the other side of the bed bringing him back to reality.
As the boy open his eyes he realizes how that last part wasn't what actually happened that day, that was his subconscious, which was worse.
Ignoring that weird sensation that dream left him, picks the phone and looks who's calling.
Toya's contact information shows up.
The guy who just kissed in his dream was calling.
Oh, the world sure loves Shinonome Akito.
As soon as he responds to the call, a familiar voice starts to speak. "Akito, I tried the program you recommended me for composing and I did something!" Says Toya with a happy tone. "Do you want to hear it?"
'Not even a hello? He must be excited about it.' Akito thinks. "Yeah, send it to me and I'll listen to it."
"You sound tired... Sorry, did I wake you up?"
"I mean, it's around 12:50AM but—"
"Eh?" Says Toya, dumbfounded by this. "I swear it was 09:30 a while ago...?"
The boy holds his laugh. "It's okay, don't worry. I can easily go back to sleep after this so..."
Both of them go radio silent.
"Uh..." maybe Akito would regret this in the morning. "You know, I..." or maybe not, who knows. "I appreciate you as my partner."
It took some seconds to Toya to answer, which made Akito's body tense up a little bit. "I do too." He finally says. "I am glad I can stand by your side."
"Let's be together forever, partner."
Those words make him sit up on his bed quickly. Heart racing more than it should. He opens his mouth multiple times trying to find the words but he can't, nothing's coming out.
Somehow the other boy just knows what face he's making right now. He softly laughs calling it a night.
Akito falls again to his bed, holding his phone tighlty to his chest as he stares at the ceiling.
He is definitely skipping school tomorrow.
