“Dude, I can’t believe that was the last one!” Kaminari cheered, running ahead of the group to jump cheesily in the air. Kirishima and Mina were quick to join in the racket while Katsuki begrudgingly followed. He’d somehow let himself get dragged out to celebrate the end of the finals week with the dimwits. He was not happy in the slightest. If it were up to him, he and Izuku would be piled under some blankets and watching Star Wars. They were rewatching it because the nerd had fucking begged them to. But no, here he is out on a Friday night with a bunch of idiots who probably didn’t even pass the finals.
“Now we celebrate with food!” Ashido whipped out her phone to search for good but cheap nearby restaurants. “Ooo guys, there’s this really good traditional hotpot place around the block! And it’s only twenty bucks for us to get the whole shabang!” She pulled up directions while everyone checked their pockets for spare cash. Katsuki rolled his eyes at the frantic display. There were six of them they’d each be spending maybe six bucks, and that included the tip. They should at least have five bucks on them. What idiot went out with no cash?
Izuku never did but that could be easily attributed to Katsuki never letting him pay when they went out together.
“Mom! Mom, look!!” A small kid was tugging his mother’s hand, dragging her toward the rowdy high school kids. “It’s the explosion guy! From TV!” Katsuki’s eyes widened at the mention of his name, or at least of his quirk. He was not good with kids, not in the slightest. But for some godforsaken reason, they fucking loved him. We’re talking about hanging off his arms and legs, climbing the blond like a jungle gym, begging him to show his quirk. They were unreasonable!
“Yuki, please!” His mother shot them an apologetic smile as she tried to reign back her child. So, of course, Ashido just had to butt in.
“Oh my god! Look at this little cutie! You’ve just gotta take a picture with him, Blasty!” She exclaimed, rushing over to the young boy and squishing his cheeks. The excitement he carried now turned to confusion as the wrong person gave him attention.
“Don’t call me Blasty!” He shot her a scowl before looking at the kid, their eyes wide with excitement.
“Excuse me, but my son would really like to take a picture with you. Is that alright?” The boy’s mother asked hesitantly, clearly put off by the blond’s aggressive posture and attitude. Katsuki rolled his eyes and crouched down in front of the kid.
“What’s up, kid?” Katsuki couldn’t help the gruff tone his voice naturally carried, and he worried that he’d scare off the kid, but instead, the child, Yuki, began to jump up and down excitedly. He could hear the others snickering behind him, and he had to bite back the comments he wanted to shoot their way.
“I just won a soccer game! I’m gonna be just like you and win everything I do!” Yuki proclaimed loudly. Katsuki snorted at the sureness of the kid’s statement. “Can you show me your quirk, please? It’s so cool!” Katsuki grinned and held out his hand. He was never one to shy away from showing off his powers.
“Don’t look too close,” his mother warned, eyeing the pair warily as Katsuki told the little boy about the mechanics behind his quirk.
“Alright, lean back just a bit. They’re bright,” Katsuki instructed as he began to fire up his palm. Soft crackles and pops filled the air and were soon followed by excited squealing.
“Pretty cool, huh?” Katsuki’s grin softened at Yuki’s face, eyes wide in wonder and face spread in a blinding smile. Yuki nodded fervently, his pale skin warmed by the small sparks. He didn’t want to spend too much time with the kid, his friends would surely keep him out even later.
“I gotta head out now, ok? Keep on winning. Never let the extras beat you,” Katsuki stood back up, expecting Yuki to go back to his mother but instead, he stayed right in front of Katsuki.
“Wait! Lemme show you my quirk! It’s super cool!” Yuki exclaimed and reached his hand out towards Katsuki’s knee.
“Yuki no!” His mother reached for him, but it was too late. Katsuki hadn’t even thought to move, thinking it’d be some minor quirk since the kid didn’t have any quirk nullifiers on him. Yuki’s quirk activated upon contact, and Katsuki found himself very confused as to what was going on.
“Where’s Izuku!?” He demanded, glaring at the teenagers around him.
–
Ashido: Heeeey, might’ve run into a small problem so we’re coming back early. Could you wait in the common room for us? We’ll be there in 5
Izuku stared at his phone blankly before he shot out of bed. What had Kacchan done now? They were only going out to get food so what could he have possibly done that made them not only come back within twenty minutes of leaving but also for Izuku himself to meet them downstairs? He quickly put on his slippers and took the elevator down.
Izuku: Coming down now! Is Kacchan ok? He didn’t get into a fight did he?!
Kacchan hadn’t picked a fight with strangers in a while, but with his provisional license, he was quick to jump into any scene.
Ashido: Um… He’s fine. A little cranky but fine and no fights! You’ll see when we get there.
Izuku grimaced as the elevator doors slid open, and he found himself pacing in the common room. Freezing on the spot when he heard the door open, Aizawa shuffled in with a drained expression. When he saw Izuku he walked over, heaving a sigh when he noticed the other’s frantic stature.
“Just so you know, Bakugo has been hit with a quirk. No need to panic. He’ll be just fine, and it’ll wear off in a day or two. They should be walking in any minute now, so please don’t freak out when you see him.” Aizawa was clearly unhappy with the situation, one of his hands rubbing tiredly at his forehead in frustration.
This only made Izuku more concerned.
“Put me down!” Izuku’s head whipped to see a tiny Kacchan practically screeching in Ashido’s arms. He attempted to climb out of her hold, and poor Ashdio struggled against the kicks and punches.
“Chill out, little dude.” Kirishima followed behind them, tapping Ashdio on the shoulder gently for her to put Kacchan down. The rest of his friends shuffled inside, staring at the floor under Aizawa’s steely glare.
“Izuku!” Kacchan’s eyes widened once he saw Izuku. He was absolutely thrilled and ran at him at full speed. The greenette let out an oof as Kacchan barrelled into his legs, making him fall onto his butt.
“Kacchan?” Izuku couldn’t believe his eyes. Here was three-year-old Kacchan, sitting in his lap, looking as adorable as ever.
“Why are you so big, ‘Zuku?” Izuku choked on air as the blond continued to talk. This was crazy. Izuku had to be dreaming. There was no way this was happening. Yes, it was awful that Kacchan had been hit with a quirk, but this was by far the best quirk he could’ve been hit with. Well if he’d been hit by that dog quirk he would’ve been super cute too.
“Well, why are you so little?” Izuku teased, poking a finger at the blond’s belly, which made him let out little giggles in response. Kacchan pushed away the tickling hand and grabbed Izuku’s face, turning it every which way and examining him extensively. The greenette sat anxiously under Kacchan’s scrutinous gaze while the rest of the class stared in awe and shock.
“Nope, it’s definitely you that got bigger,” Kacchan spoke matter-of-factly, and let his hands fall from the other’s cheeks. “Now you’re an even bigger broccoli head.” Izuku’s mouth gaped in surprise. The light tease something he hadn’t heard in years, while Kacchan laughed at his own joke.
“We will most certainly be discussing this later,” Aizawa shot the group still at the door a pointed look before turning to Izuku and Kacchan. “But for right now we need to figure out what to do with Bakugo. How old are you?” Kacchan turned away from Izuku. His laughter was silenced once he made eye contact with their teacher. He scrambled to stand up, shoulders squaring and chin up in confidence.
“‘Zuku and I aren’t supposed to speak to strangers!” He announced. Aizawa blinked slowly at the appropriate yet defiant response.
“He’s not a stranger, Kacchan.” Izuku gently placed a hand on the blond’s shoulder, and his posture softened under the touch, “This is our- I mean my teacher, Mr. Aizawa, so he’s not a stranger, Kacchan. You can trust him.” Kacchan glanced back at the tall man, sizing him up before deciding to answer.
“My name’s Bakugo Katsuki, and I’m three years old!” Kacchan exclaimed proudly, the rest of the class cooing behind them. This made the little blond scowl and cross his arms.
“Well, hello, Bakugo,” Aizawa crouched down to Kacchan’s level and let a soft smile take over his features. “This is Yuuei, the hero school, and this is the Hero’s Alliance dorm building. You’re going to be here for a few days while this quirk wears off.”
“I was hit by a hit quirk?” Kacchan asked, his head tilting in confusion.
“Nothing serious. One of your friends on the playground got their quirk and sent you forward in time, but you’ll be sent back before you know it.” Kacchan let out an excited cheer at the prospect of being sent to the future while the rest of 1A stared at Aizawa. He was never this nice to any of them. Ever .
Izuku already knew that this was not what happened because if it was, he’d begin to have memories of seeing a grown-up Kacchan when he was younger. But this scenario was much easier to explain to a child. It wouldn’t be as big of a hit to little Kacchan’s ego. Not to mention that every little kid has wanted to travel to the future at some point.
“Would you like to hang out here with Izuku and his classmates before we head to my house? I have a daughter who would love to play with you,” Aizawa stood up and brushed fake dust away from his pants as he did so. Kacchan, however, heavily disagreed with this idea and launched himself back into Izuku’s lap, holding the older teen’s arm tightly.
“No way am I staying with you!” He argued, “I’m staying with Izuku.” He spoke determinedly, as though whatever he said would go. Izuku balked at the slightly possessive but also ridiculously adorable behavior that little Kacchan was displaying. Izuku gently wrapped the arm that Kacchan was holding around his middle and tugged him closer so he pressed against his chest.
“That’s ok with me if it's okay with Mr. Aizawa,” Izuku looked up at his teacher who had a look of contemplation. He already knew that Kacchan’s face was flushed with anger at the thought of being separated, and sooner rather than later, he’d begin to pitch a fit. Now, Kacchan had never been as much of a crier as Izuku had been, but he did throw tantrums and would easily begin crying if he didn’t get his way. Aizawa sighed and nodded his head.
“I will allow it, but if anything goes wrong, Bakugo will be staying with me and Yamada. No exceptions.” Kacchan aggressively nodded his head in agreement. “I’ll be dropping off some things that he’ll be needing later. I’ve already contacted Mrs. Bakugo, and she is perfectly fine with him staying here and to ask any questions if they arise.
“I will say this once, Bakugo. There is zero quirk use without permission. Zero . Anything that Midoriya says goes, and you will listen to him or else I will contact your mother to come and get you. Do you understand?” Aizawa spoke firmly but still gently at Kacchan who quickly said that he would be on his best behavior. Kacchan had never been a bad kid, he was respectful toward adults until he hit 8 or 9, and that was because he got away with everything by then. The quirk use comment caused a few whispers amongst the students because Kacchan had just said that he was three, most kids awaken their quirks after they turn four. They should know by now that Kacchan had always been ahead of the game, even as a toddler.
“Good. I’ll be bringing some supplies in an hour or so, along with some toys. Yaoyorozou, feel free to create any items that you think Bakugo may need.” Yaoyorozou nodded, and Aizawa sighed, whether in relief or exasperation by the turn of events was unknown, and walked out the doors.
Once he left, the class exploded with questions and crowded Kacchan and Izuku on the floor.
“Oh my god, you’re so cute!”
“Look at his hair, it's still so spikey.”
“Dude, even little Bakugo is angry-looking!”
“I’m not little!” Kacchan exclaimed, glaring at Kirishima, who had said the previous statement. The teen paled under Kacchan's murderous glare and held up his hands placatingly.
“Sorry, Bakugo! Didn’t mean it like that!” Kirishima apologized, and Kacchan huffed but stopped glaring.
“Well,” Izuku struggled to think of what to do in this situation. He hadn’t thought through the idea of watching Kacchan under the duration of the quirk’s effects. Sure, he was good with kids, but there’s a difference between watching them and just playing with them. “I guess we should eat,” he finished lamely. Kacchan turned towards him and smiled brightly.
“Okay, ‘Zuku!” The girls in the class cooed at the little blond’s response, and Izuku prayed that he wouldn’t get upset under their constant attention.
The two stood up from the floor, and Izuku began to make his way to the kitchen to find something to eat but stopped when Kacchan began to tug lightly on his pants. He looked down to see the adorable puppy eyes and Kacchan reaching up for him. Izuku raised his eyebrows in confusion at the gesture.
“Up, please?” Kacchan whispered, glancing around as though to make sure nobody heard. The greenette internally melted at the request and swiftly picked him up, settling the blond on his hip. He’d also forgotten how clingy Kacchan used to be. He used to always make sure that Izuku was near and would always hold his hand whenever they went on their little adventures. Not to mention, at sleepovers, he was super cuddly. Yes, Izuku had also been very clingy and reciprocated the actions, but now he was much bigger, and it was much cuter to see Kacchan acting like this. Even as a teenager, the blond was adamant about physical affection, constantly having some sort of contact with Izuku whenever they were together.
“What do you think we should eat, Kacchan?” The blond placed a finger to his chin in thought, and Izuku had to hold back a snicker. He also pointedly ignored the click of a camera. He couldn’t wait to be sent these pictures, and he wouldn’t ruin it with Kacchan noticing.
“Can we have spicy tofu?” The toddler asked excitedly.
“Of course, Kacchan.” Izuku set the blond on the counter beside him and began to make spicy tofu. He was nowhere near as good as Kacchan at cooking, but he could make the basics. Sato was quick to come and help, grabbing enough ingredients for the rest of the class as well. Izuku made sure to pass some of the food to Kacchan to nibble on to keep him busy. He sat on the counter and munched on the food happily, swinging his feet.
Once they finished making the meal, they all went to sit at the table. Nobody in the class took dinner to their dorm, all too excited to see little Kacchan. Speaking of little Kacchan, he was too short to fit in their regular seats, so he ended up perched on Izuku’s knee while they ate. Yaoyorozou made special kid's chopsticks for Kacchan, ensuring they were All Might-themed to avoid arguments against using them.
“How’s the food, Kacchan?” Izuku asked, smiling as Kacchan hungrily wolfed down the tofu and rice.
“‘S good,” he spoke through a mouthful of food.
“It’s very impolite to speak with your mouth full, Bakugo.” Iida scolded, the other students groaning in response. Kacchan, however, smirked and then opened his mouth wide open, showing off all the food he’d just shoveled in. Iida spluttered at the display while everyone laughed.
“Kacchan!” Izuku admonished through his chuckles. Kacchan turned and gave him a toothy grin, bits of tofu sticking out here and there. “Gross!” Izuku teasingly pushed the blond’s head away from him while the other began to giggle.
After that little scene, the class introduced themselves, going around the table. Since he’d be staying in the dorms and it was the weekend, he’d be seeing a lot of them. It would be smart for him to know their names.
“So Bakugo,” Ashido rested her chin on her hands, “who’s your favorite hero?”
“All Might, obviously, but when I become a hero, then it’ll be me.” The class practically spit out their food at his obnoxious but predictable answer and soon started bombarding him with questions.
“What’s your favorite food?”
“Spicy stuff, but Katsudon is really good too. That’s ‘Zuku’s favorite so it’s my favorite too. He’s too much of a baby to eat my favorite foods.”
“What do you like to do?”
“Blow shit up.”
“Kacchan!”
“Who’s your best friend?”
“‘Zuku’s my bestest friend.”
“Oh really? What's your favorite thing about Midoriay?”
“I like his hair, it's super soft and fluffy like a cloud. But it looks like broccoli.” Izuku flushed at Kacchan’s surefire responses, absolutely no hesitation whatsoever. This was before Izuku had been diagnosed as quirkless so in Kacchan’s mind, they were the ‘bestest’ of friends. Their classmates continued their onslaught of questions, and dinner was soon finished and forgotten. The blond settled himself in Izuku’s lap, his back to the other’s chest so he could be more comfortable. Aizawa came in to drop off some necessities before heading back out, telling Izuku to let him know if any problems arose.
“‘Zukuu,” Kacchan whined, poking at the other’s cheek roughly.
“Yes, Kacchan?” Izuku turned down to be rewarded with a sleepy blond yawning.
“I wanna go to sleep, these people are annoying.” Izuku chuckled. Kacchan had always liked to go to bed early. The rest of the class was too entertained by the sight of Izuku holding Kacchan close to complain about being called annoying. The blond’s head rested on the other’s shoulder with his arms wrapped around the greenette’s neck. He’s followed by Ochaco and Kirishima, both carrying bags of clothes brought by their teacher so Izuku didn’t have to. Kacchan was practically asleep by the time they reached the second floor, barely five minutes later, and Izuku had to gently shake him to be more aware so he could get into PJs.
“Thanks, guys,” Izuku whispered to Ochaco and Kirishima as they left, both of them saying it was no problem and that they were happy to help. He turned around to see Kacchan pulling on his pajamas and the teen sighed gratefully, he was nervous that Kacchan would need help changing and wanted to avoid the awkward situation. Not even that it was all that awkward anyway but knowing Kacchan, if he remembered all of this when he turned back to normal would be thoroughly embarrassed by needing help with something so mundane.
“Come on, Kacchan. Let's go brush our teeth and then we can go to bed ok?” the toddler nodded sleepily, following the other into the little bathroom connected to his room. He did have to hold Kacchan up so he was able to reach the sink but thank god he was able to use the bathroom on his own. Now that would’ve been embarrassing.
He was thankful that Yaoyorozou had made a mattress and had brought it up earlier with Iida’s help. She even made sheets and a blanket! The blanket was All Might-themed but the sheets had little explosions for Kacchan. He’s quick to tuck in Kacchan who goes down without a single grumble, he quickly nestled into the blanket and pillow and fell fast asleep. Izuku smiled softly at the sight before climbing into his own bed and grabbing his phone. The bright screen revealed the time to be 8:30 and he had to bite back his groan. A Friday night and he’s in bed before nine! He sent a quick text to Aizawa saying that Kacchan was asleep and everything had gone well. He also opened a message from Auntie Mitsuki entailing things about Kacchan and that she knew he’d end up staying with Izuku instead of Aizawa. He copied and pasted the message into his notes and read over it, memorizing every detail
Hi Izuku! I heard that my brat managed to get hit with a de-aging quirk so I figured he’d end up with you. You’ve always been his favorite you know. Anyway, here are some important things you should know if you’re going to watch him.
- He is a brat and will push any and every button, feel free to put him in timeout.
- I don’t know if you remember but he was a fairly rambunctious kid and will be violent and get into places he shouldn’t be.
- He tends to pass out around eight and wakes up stupidly early so be prepared for that. Make sure he takes a nap! If he doesn’t he will be even more cranky than normal.
- He’s also very clingy and will demand to be carried around everywhere, when you guys were kids he was happy with just holding your hand but now that you’re bigger, he’s going to want you to carry him.
Feel free to call or text if you have any questions! Please take pictures of the brat! I’d love to get some more for the house.
Izuku smiled at her message and closed the page, deciding to scroll through some hero articles and Instagram before going to bed. It was just too early to sleep! After about thirty minutes, he begrudgingly plugged in his phone and attempted to fall asleep before he was interrupted by rustling and then, someone climbing onto his bed.
“‘Zuku?” Kacchan whispered, climbing up so he was right next to Izuku.
“What is it, Kacchan?” Izuku asked worriedly, did he have a nightmare? Oh god, did he wet the bed?!
“Can I sleep up here?” He asked quietly, fiddling with the blanket. Izuku smiled gently in relief, lifting the covers so the blond could lay down.
“Is your bed not comfy?” He asked cautiously, he didn’t want to prod too much lest Kacchan became upset.
“‘S cold,” the blond muttered, burrowing under the covers and nuzzling himself against Izuku’s arm. “Don’t wanna be alone, ‘s not my room.” Izuku quickly wrapped his other arm around Kacchan, pulling him closer. His heart warming at the admission and at Kacchan’s cute actions.
“It's okay, Kacchan. I’ve got you,” He can feel how Kacchan’s entire body deflates at that, allowing himself to relax and fall asleep again. Izuku pressed a soft kiss to the crown of the other’s head before falling asleep himself.
–
“Time to get up, ‘Zuku!” Kacchan shouted, on top of Izuku’s chest and bouncing up and down. Izuku blearily blinked at the child before him, confused until yesterday’s events dawned on him. Suppressing a groan, he sat up and rubbed the sleep away from his eyes.
“Okay okay, chill out, Kacchan,” He hushed him, he didn’t want to wake up his other classmates. He glanced at his alarm clock, the bright red numbers staring back at him saying 5:00 AM. Ugh . Sure Kacchan had been working out with him in the mornings but that didn’t mean he liked waking up early. A big grin cracked over Kacchan’s face, immediately jumped off the bed and launched himself to his bag of clothes. They both get dressed, Kacchan yells at Izuku for forgetting to brush his teeth and demands that he also put on deodorant despite Izuku telling him he doesn’t need it. By the time they get downstairs, it's six and the majority of their class is downstairs.
It’s Kaminari’s and Sero’s turn to make breakfast so they’re both down much earlier than normal. Kacchan is at full energy, despite it being so early. He’s quick to tell Kaminari that his eggs look gross and that even he could make better eggs than that. Izuku decides that maybe he should hang out in the common room instead of the kitchen. This, however, also doesn’t turn out very well. He’s everywhere .
He managed to actually make Iida mad by poking his fingers into his engines, he asked Mineta if he was also three, swang off of Ojiro’s tail, and was finally kept occupied by Dark Shadow. Izuku was mildly nervous that this would be more difficult than he initially anticipated. Especially since Aizawa hadn’t excused him from class so he would also have to bring Kacchan and keep him occupied. While Izuku began to wallow in his thoughts, Ochaco sat beside him on the couch.
“So what’re you going to do with him today?” She asked, tilting her head toward the child in question. Izuku looked over to see him and Dark Shadow playing with some hero toys, and he couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“I honestly don’t know. I’m pretty sure Aizawa expects me to bring him to class, but I don’t know if he’ll be able to sit through it! He’s so rambunctious. Not to mention he has to nap at 1. Who’s going to watch him then?” Izuku began to ramble, muttering endlessly about all the reasons why this was not going to work. Ochaco merely chuckled at him and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“It’ll be just fine, Deku. I’m sure Aizawa has something planned,” Izuku shot her a grateful look before they were interrupted by an angry toddler.
“Why are you calling him Deku?” Kacchan practically growled, pulling Izuku away from her. They both blinked at him owlishly before realizing her mistake. This was before everything went downhill. Before he started calling Izuku ‘Deku’.
“Oh um,” Ochaco chuckled nervously, scooching away from the two at the sound of small pops. “It's just a nickname! It sounds like ‘You can do it!’” Kacchan wasn’t completely sure of her response but huffed and stuck his chin up.
“Whatever,” His eyes sized her up, “round cheeks. ‘Zuku’s my best friend so you better not say stuff like that.” He warned. Izuku flushed, mildly embarrassed by Kacchan’s sudden outburst and protectiveness.
“Kacchan!” He admonished. “Don’t call her that! Her name is Uraraka.” Kacchan merely hmphed and continued tugging Izuku away.
“Aw is Bakugo jealous?” Ashido leaned over the couch, teasing the blond unknowing of what had happened. Kacchan blushed at the insinuation and stammered out an unclear reply.
“Don’t worry, Kacchan. Ochaco is just a friend,” Kacchan glared once he realized they were on a first-name basis. Scowling at Izuku, he crossed his arms and furrowed his brows.
“She better be. You’re mine, ‘Zuku.” Izuku once again blushed, this time, covering the tips of his ears as well.
“Of course, kacchan.” He attempted to placate him but Kacchan was too busy gauging Ochaco’s reaction. Growing even more upset at her amusement.
“You’re not his girlfriend are you?!” He asked incredulously, pointing an angry finger at her. Now the two are both blushing, spluttering varying degrees of ‘What?’ and ‘No way!’ but Kacchan refused to believe them. Instead, he once again pointed his fury at Izuku.
“‘Zuku! You said you would marry me once we grew up!” Kacchan yelled, his hands curled into fists at his sides.
“Kacchan!” Izuku is well beyond embarrassment at this point. “You can’t just say that!” This only further enraged Kacchan, who then decided how he would handle the situation.
“I’m gonna hold my breath till you promise to marry me!” He exclaimed, taking a deep breath before closing his mouth and crossing his arms. Now the whole class is enraptured by what’s going on and Izuku feels as though he is about to burn up from the inside out from embarrassment.
“Kacchan, please! I swear she’s not my girlfriend!” He pleaded but Kacchan refused to give in. Izuku continued to try and explain but was interrupted by Kaminari.
“I dunno dude but I’m pretty sure he’s going to pass out if you don’t do what he wants,” and he’s right about that. Kacchan is practically blue in the face, his eyes scrunched closed and his arms are pressed tightly against one another.
“Fine! I promise I’ll marry you, Kacchan! Just breathe!” Izuku begged and the blond finally acquiesced, gulping down a giant breath of air and teetering slightly. Izuku’s arms shoot out to steady the boy, letting out a sigh of relief. The entire class laughed about the whole thing while Kacchan smugly smirked like a cat who got the cream.
“On that note, I think we should head to class.” Tsuyu, the angel, suggested, taking away everyone’s attention from the pair.
–
Class surprisingly went fairly well. Aizawa brought Eri in and the two kids played in the library with Yamada, the two switching at the change of class periods. Kacchan came back for lunch and announced his disgust for Todoroki’s cold noodles and then he was whisked away by Yamada to go to the park with Eri. Izuku was anxious that Kacchan might be a bit much for Eri but was quickly proven wrong by how excited they were to hang out again. The wave of relief that the teens felt at seeing Kacchan being sociable and not a heinous demon was indescribable. Especially after this morning.
–
“Izuku!” Kacchan squealed, racing into the common room and darting between legs. Izuku once again found himself with an armful of little Kacchan and tickled the small child. The blond’s uncontrollable laughter rang through the first floor and it had the entire class meandering their way toward the couches. Aizawa and Nedzu follow behind the blond, coughing to gain attention.
“Midoriya, could you come with us for a moment? We’ve received more information about the quirk.” Izuku set Kacchan down and asked for his classmates to watch him for just a moment. They agreed with little to no hesitance as now that they were awake, they wanted to play with the toddler.
“We had the mother and child come in for questioning, don’t worry we made sure that the kid knew they weren’t in trouble. Just that they needed to be more careful in the future. We got more information about the quirk and its longevity. Mrs. Hirano explained that Yuki has only had his quirk for a few weeks now, and has only used it a few times.” Nedzu and Aizawa shared a look before the taller one continued.
“The problem with that is they don’t know how long this will last or if there are any long-term effects. His parents’ quirks are both time-related as well and don’t have any detrimental consequences so we’re not too worried. The only concern is how long Bakugo will stay in this state. He’s already proven to be quite the handful,” Aizawa finished with a sigh and Izuku could only imagine how Kacchan had been at the park earlier. He’d always been one for adventuring.
“But Kacchan’s ok?” Izuku asked nervously, wringing out his fingers to relieve the anxieties flooding his brain. What if Kacchan was stuck like this for weeks? Months! How would he catch up on school? Would Auntie Mitsuki have to take Kacchan home? Or would Izuku have to watch him the entire time? Not that Izuku minded hanging out with his boyfriend but this was completely different! Right now Kacchan was 3! A toddler! Izuku has no idea how to handle a toddler long term, much less short term. He’s only going off of what he remembered from his childhood.
“Don’t worry, Midoriya. Bakugo will be just fine. Aizawa always manages to make everything sound so dire. At most, he will stay this way for a week but he’ll most likely change around Monday or Tuesday since the quirk wasn’t used with extreme emotions. Eri and Bakugo got along very well earlier so if you don’t feel comfortable with keeping him for longer than a day or so, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind staying with Aizawa and Yamada.” Aizawa visibly stiffened at the mention of the blond staying with him. A direct hint that Kacchan had most definitely been difficult today.
“Oh no don’t worry! I can watch Kacchan. He hasn’t been too bad and tomorrow is the weekend so I won’t be busy!” Izuku reassured the two adults. He didn’t want Kacchan to stay in another place he didn’t know. Last night flashed before his eyes, Kacchan crawling into Izuku’s bed because he didn’t like the unfamiliar room. He wouldn’t have anyone to comfort him at Aizawa’s! Also, Izuku couldn’t entirely say that he didn’t want to hang out with little Kacchan. He was just too cute and Izuku wanted to take advantage of the situation as much as possible!
They were interrupted by the sound of Kacchan’s explosion and cheering. The three turned back toward the couches to see Kacchan floating in the air beside Ochaco, a fist in the air and a giant grin spread over his features. Ochaco didn’t look quite as happy but had a small smile, letting him gently back down.
“What did I say about quirk use, Bakugo?” Aizawa calmly walked over but the toddler froze at the tone, turning around slowly to sheepishly look up at the adult before squaring his shoulders.
“They said I could!” He gestured widely to all of the students around them. “They said we could fight to see whose quirk was the best!” Aizawa groaned and waved him off, Kacchan was happy to oblige and continued basking in his limelight.
“If anything is broken or anyone is injured I will be very unhappy,” Aizawa warned but walked back out the doors, Nedzu trailed behind him and gave the students a thumbs up. Izuku cautiously walked over to his friends, apologizing heavily to Ochaco for Kacchan’s roughness. She only laughed and shook him off, they had just been playing and he hadn’t used his quirk on her, just to fly through the air and lightly bop her on the head. She thought it was rather adorable how gentle he had been despite her being over a decade older than him. Izuku sighed in relief when he heard that and turned back to Kacchan who was now playing with Kirishima.
They tumbled on the floor, less of a quirk battle and more like playful roughhousing but they both sounded like they were having fun. Kirishima’s chuckles and Kacchan’s screeches of laughter filled the air. It wasn’t till Kacchan gripped Kirishima’s hair and let his quirk go off, singing the other’s hair lightly.
“Dude!” Kirishima rolled away, a face of mock hurt on his features while Kacchan stuck his tongue out at him.
“Haha!” The blond cheered. “I won!” Izuku couldn’t help but giggle along with the rest of his classmates at the toddler’s victory. Shoji was quick to step up next, positive that he’d be able to give Kacchan a hard time. He, however, was quickly proven wrong when Kacchan realized he couldn’t use his quirk while trapped in the other’s arms so he bit him instead. Now that had been funny.
Todoroki then volunteered and Kacchan was eager to win against him too. Instead, Todoroki froze the other on the spot and Kacchan’s explosions weren’t quite strong enough to break through the thick ice.
“Hey, that's cheating!” The blond yelled, struggling in the ice hold. Todoroki merely shrugged in response, “I guess I win then.” This only further angered Kacchan and his face began to grow red and his eyes welled with tears.
“That's not fair!” Kacchan began to sniffle, “You cheated! It's not fair!” He repeated until a few tears trailed down his cheeks. “Izuku,” the blond cried and the teen raced over to the other and glared at Todoroki to let him out. Izuku forgot that he wasn’t the best with kids, not quite understanding that you couldn’t treat them like teenagers. The others awkwardly dispersed, they hadn’t expected Kacchan to melt down over something so trivial but once again remembered that he was indeed, currently a toddler.
“Shh, it's alright, Kacchan.” Izuku held the other to his chest, rubbing soothing circles into the blond’s back in an attempt to soothe him. Kacchan quieted down but was still upset over the whole ordeal, the sore loser thing still going strong, so Izuku turned on one of their favorite old All Might cartoons. The 3-year-old snapped right back to his happy self and sat happily in the teen’s lap. Once the other students realized that he was happy again, they began to trickle in. Yaoyorozou brought them each a serving of dry curry and they ate their dinner in front of the TV. Izuku could feel Auntie Mitsuki’s disdain from when they were younger but it didn’t matter all that much now. They were all watching the cartoon when a startling realization came to Izuku.
Kacchan needed to take a bath.
He’d spent a good portion of the day outside, not to mention he had roughhoused earlier. He hadn’t showered yesterday either! Weren’t kids supposed to shower like every day or something? Izuku honestly had no idea and tugged on his curls incessantly as he attempted to decide how to do this. He couldn’t just let Kacchan take a shower by himself, he was too little. But he also didn’t want to force Kacchan to shower with him in the tiny ensuite ones they had in their rooms. That left the actual baths. Kacchan had always been a menace at bath time. Izuku fondly remembered the water fights they used to have before then realizing that his other classmates would be there too.
They would be zero help whatsoever. They’d probably have a repeat of earlier where they played all over again until Kacchan got cranky. Or maybe it would be like last night and they’d play for a little bit and then Kacchan would announce when he wanted to go to sleep. He was fairly vocal about what he wanted and when.
“Everything alright, Midoriya?” Iida asked as he leaned over the edge of the couch to grab the dishes they’d set on the coffee table. Izuku shook away his thoughts and shot the other a reassuring smile.
“Yep! Just about to take Kacchan up to the baths,” all eyes were on him immediately and Izuku realized he’d made a mistake.
“Are these like the big baths?” Kacchan flipped around in his hold, eyes bright with excitement.
“Yeah, Kacchan. Like the ones we used to go to after we went swimming,” The toddler began to cheer and hopped off of Izuku’s lap and ran to some of their classmates that he’d taken a liking to.
“You should come! We can have a water war!” he exclaimed, doing his level best to convince the others to come with. It didn’t take much since the ones he asked were Kirishima, Kaminari, Sero, and Ojiro. He for some reason really liked his tail. Todoroki then said that he also wanted to go and Kacchan groaned dramatically and said that it was ok as long as he wouldn’t freeze the water.
This then led to them all going to the baths and having an all-out water battle, just like Kacchan had asked. They all spent a good while in there, their fingers and toes turned all pruney. Kacchan also learned that Todoroki could also create fire and was absolutely enamored by it. He made him do a whole bunch of tricks like lighting his entire arm on fire, making the water get super hot, he even asked if Todoroki would set Kaminari on fire. That had promptly ended the showcase and Izuku set out to dry Kacchan’s hair.
The teens chatted for a bit as Kacchan’s hair was being dried. Izuku for some reason felt overly cautious about letting him go to bed with wet hair, he remembered his mom always telling him to dry his hair properly when he was younger so he wouldn’t catch a cold. He did not want a sick Kacchan on his hands. Especially not a sick little Kacchan.
“These extras are too loud, ‘Zuku. Wanna go to bed.” Kacchan whined, falling backward with an ‘oof’ into Izuku’s chest. The others balked at being called extras by a 3-year-old while Izuku chuckled through a flimsy scolding about how he should be more respectful. Kacchan had rolled his eyes and begrudgingly apologized before they went upstairs.
They both went along with the same routine as the night before but instead of Kacchan settling into the bed set out for him, he climbed into Izuku’s. He wormed his way under the blankets and got himself all nice and comfy while Izuku finished brushing his teeth.
“Hey! That's my bed!” Izuku teased, coming over to sit on the side and tickle at Kacchan’s exposed neck. He giggled and pushed away the wiggling fingers before scooting over so Izuku could lay beside him.
“It was warmer up here, so I’m just gonna sleep here.” He said resolutely, not leaving any room for argument. Izuku let out a tired sigh of endearment before settling in beside the other. The blond quickly attached himself to Izuku’s arm, nuzzling his head against it like it was a pillow. The teen chuckled at the cute action Kacchan had always been a cuddler that was for sure.
“Goodnight, Kacchan.”
“Goodnight, ‘Zuku.”
–
Kacchan woke up Izuku the same way as the morning before and so they made their way downstairs, on a Sunday , at 5 AM. Nobody else was down there except for Iida who was preparing himself a smoothie. Izuku had decided to not get dressed yet considering it was the weekend and set Kacchan to play in the common room while he made breakfast. It was nothing fancy, older Kacchan definitely would’ve reprimanded him for the simplicity of it, just an omelet over rice. Kacchan was eager to eat on the couch again and they continued watching the same cartoon they had last night. A few others came downstairs, Kirishima, Todoroki, Shoji, Sato, and Yaoyorozou, to do their morning workouts. They weren’t anywhere near as fickle about their routines as Iida and Kacchan but they still made an effort to work out on the weekends.
“What do you want to do today, Kacchan?” Izuku asked, pausing the TV so he had Kacchan’s full attention. They’d all quickly learned that toddlers could not multitask.
“I wanna go to the zoo!” He declared loudly, shoving his food onto the coffee table in front of him to go back to playing with his toys on the floor. Izuku grimaced as he wondered if Aizawa would let them. It wouldn’t exactly be the safest thing if they went by themselves and Izuku didn’t know how well Kacchan would behave in such a public space. He checked his phone, it was almost 6 now, so he corralled Kacchan upstairs and got them dressed for the day. He also grabbed a small bag to fill with some extra clothes for Bakugo, his mom always had an extra change of clothes set for Izuku whenever they went out.
They made their way back downstairs. A bit more of the class was down there, now eating breakfast in their pajamas. It was a bit hard to sleep in since they woke up early every other day of the week. The majority of them found themselves completely unable to sleep past 8:30 and grumbled their way downstairs. Kacchan ran over to the couch when he saw Kirishima there and made him play heroes with him while Izuku packed up some more things. He was 96% certain that Aizawa would say yes.
“Bakubro here says that you guys are going to the zoo today?” Kirishima shouted from the couch, and Izuku made his way over to the pair.
“That's the goal! Still need to ask Aizawa though, but I’m sure he’ll say yes. Do you want Eri to come too, Kacchan?” The blond pressed a finger to his chin in thought before coming to a conclusion. He seriously liked to be dramatic when it came to making decisions.
“Yeah, Eri is nice. And Aizawa lets me do whatever I want so he should definitely come!” Both Kirishima and Izuku snickered at that. Who would’ve known that their teacher had a soft spot for kids?
“Do you wanna come too, Kiri?” Kacchan ran over to the redhead and jumped excitedly. Kirishima practically melted at the request and immediately said yes. He hugged Kacchan tightly until the other was a giggling mess demanding to be let go.
“Alright let me call him real quick,” Izuku chuckled at the sight before dialing his teacher’s number.
–
“So Bakugo said that you let him do whatever he wants?” Kirishima joked, poking a button of Aizawa’s that Izuku wasn’t sure was too smart to poke. Their teacher merely huffed out an ‘Of course not’. Kacchan and Eri heavily disagreed.
“Nu-uh! You got me ice cream yesterday as soon as I asked for it!”
“And you took us to the park and played with us too!”
“You even let me blow up an anthill!” That last one made the tips of Aizawa’s ears blush in embarrassment while Izuku and Kirishima laughed at yesterday’s events.
The bus ride to the zoo was fairly uneventful. Kacchan and Eri kept themselves occupied, occasionally asking one of the older teens to play with them. Once they got to the zoo, they quickly learned that Kacchan must be holding someone’s hand at all times, or else he would dart off. Not only that but Kacchan had this large infatuation with pointing out all of the animals’ butts and whenever they were pooping. It was honestly kinda embarrassing but none of the other parents gave them a second glance, apparently, that was a pretty normal toddler behavior. Then they come across one of those money-grab games, the kind where you have to throw something and hit a target but it’s reinforced so it can’t be knocked down. And of course one of the prizes is an All Might stuffie and Kacchan just has to have it.
“‘Zuku, look! Look!” He jumped up and down, tugging Izuku toward the booth. “It’s All Might! Can we play? I know I’ll win!” The teen attempted to hold back a grimace, he already knew that Kacchan wouldn’t be able to and didn’t feel like dealing with a tantrum. Especially in public.
“We need to be heading back soon so why don’t you let Midoriya try and you get ice cream with me and Eri instead,” Thank god for Kirishima. The offer was happily taken by the blond, but he did demand to watch Izuku play before he got ice cream.
“Alright, Kacchan, watch this,” Izuku glanced at the excited expression on Kacchan’s face and it made him smile softly.
“You got this, ‘Zuku!” “You can do it, Deku!” Kacchan and Eri cheered. Izuku knew he wouldn’t have to try all that hard, he could just use his quirk and get the plush with no problem. Which is exactly what he did. These booths were scams anyway and he didn’t feel all that bad for cheating. Plus since he’d won on the first shot, he got three prizes.
“I want the All Might one!” Kacchan exclaimed, so of course the greenette picked that one for him and passed the extremely oversized stuffie.
“Can I have the Present Mic one, Deku?” Eri shyly asked. Izuku could see the small smile that grew on Aizawa’s face at her request. Maybe he really was a big softie with little kids.
“You need one too, ‘Zuku!” Kacchan pointed out the lack of a plushie and the fact that Izuku did indeed win three of them. “We should get matching ones!” The blond gripped Izuku’s arm tightly with enthusiasm toward the idea.
“Hey! What if I wanted one?” Kirishima complained with mock hurt. Kacchan barely spared him a glance and grabbed another All Might plushie.
“You can play for yourself, Kiri. You’re a big kid.” Izuku burst out laughing while Kirishima whined about how it wasn’t fair and that they didn’t have time for another game. Aizawa merely stood a little bit away, holding bowls of ice cream for everyone.
“Come on, kids,” Aizawa called. “We can eat these on the bus.” The kids, including the two teenagers, happily accepted the treats. Izuku came to heavily appreciate that he’d brought some hand sanitizer and wipes with them because Kacchan was a mess .
–
“Yay! You’re back!” The students cheered once Izuku, Kacchan, and Kirishima entered the dorms. Izuku had a very tired but satisfied toddler sleeping soundly on his shoulder and raised his finger to his lips quickly.
“He’s asleep,” Kirishima whispered, the rest of the students snapped their mouths shut. Nobody wanted to see a cranky Kacchan. Izuku went upstairs quickly while Kirishima shuffled to the kitchen to lay out their things. He had been forced to carry everything back to the dorms and Kacchan had said that his hair was too spiky after he carried him for a bit. The redhead sadly took the bag and plushies while Kacchan attempted to reassure him that his hair was cool, just too hard. This thoroughly cheered Kirishima up because he was normally called ‘Shitty Hair’ by the blond, so it was nice to know that he did appreciate his hair. Though the toddler was blunt like his older self, he was much more friendly.
While Kacchan took his nap, Izuku did some of his homework and copied notes for the other to study once he turned back. His boyfriend was going to be furious when he realized he’d missed school. Thankfully the other slept peacefully and didn’t stir once, which Izuku was grateful for, and took some time for himself and went downstairs.
“So how’s little Bakugo, Deku?” Ochaco took a seat next to Izuku on the couch, her question genuinely interested, and not teasing like the others. Izuku sighed but smiled warmly.
“He’s good. A handful but good,” Izuku answered. “I’m honestly surprised that it's all going so smoothly. I remember Kacchan and I getting into a ton of trouble as kids.” Ochaco snickered at him.
“Maybe you were the problem,” She teased, “‘So cool, Kacchan!’, ‘Kacchan’s the best!’, ‘Kacchan can do anything!’” Izuku flushed with the realization that maybe he egged Kacchan a little too much when they were kids.
“Is Bakugo taking a nap?” Shoto inquired, startling the two on the couch. He walked so quietly! He’d make a great stealth hero, Izuku thought to himself.
“Jesus, Todoroki! You almost gave me a heart attack!” Ochaco exclaimed, exhaling with an unnecessary amount of dramaticness. Todoroki’s expression faltered for a moment until he realized that she was just joking and wasn’t actually going to have a heart attack.
“Yeah, he’s asleep. Is everything alright, Shoto?” Izuku briefly worried that something had happened while he was gone but the other quickly shook his head and sat on the opposite side of Ochaco.
“Yes, everything’s fine. I figured we could maybe celebrate the end of finals a bit?” Ochaco and Izuku both gawked at the other teen who remained as composed as always.
“Are you feeling ok, Todoroki?” Ochaco fretted, placing a hand on his forehead.
“Are you asking to throw a party, Shoto?” Izuku asked, completely shocked at his friend’s out-of-character question.
“Of course not,” Todoroki replied, startled by the sudden concern and doubt from his friends. He’d been trying to make more of an effort to enjoy his free time. “I figured we could play that racing game you guys introduced me to a few weeks ago.” Ochaco and Izuku grinned and joyously accepted the offer as well as asking if a few of their other friends could join. Todoroki had purchased a Nintendo Switch two months ago with his father’s credit card and his friends had slowly but surely begun introducing him to the many wonders that are video games.
They found themselves in Todoroki’s room joined by Iida, Tsuyu, and Tokoyami playing Mario Kart. Not to brag or anything but Izuku was an absolute pro at video games, Mario Kart obviously included, and it irked his friends to no end. He won every round even when they all ganged up on him with shells.
“Deku,” Ochaco whined, falling backward onto the floor without a sound. A perk of her quirk was that it allowed her to do dramatic things and not get hurt. “I swear you’ve got to be cheating! This is ridiculous!” The accused chuckled nervously at the insinuation, flushing slightly under the looks his friends shot him.
“I don’t think Midoriya is cheating but it was quite impressive that he wins every time,” Iida added, gently pushing Ochaco back into a sitting position. The two weren’t big on PDA but it was small gestures like that that reminded the group that they were even together.
“Uh,” Izuku rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, he really did not want to go into how he was so skilled at video games. All it would do was reveal an embarrassing past of having no friends and staying up all night on weekends gaming endlessly. “Why don’t we play something else then? Like Smash or something?” He offered, this was a new one that Todoroki had bought. Tsuyu had mentioned it offhandedly once while they were hanging out and the next day Todoroki announced that he had bought it. He felt no remorse whatsoever when it came to spending his father’s money. Especially on things that he knew his father wouldn’t approve of.
“I’ve been wanting to try a few new characters,” Tokoyami added helpfully. “I’ve been seeing a few videos about Kirby’s combos.” Ochaco whirled around to the other boy, waggling a warning finger in his face.
“No way! You know that’s my character!” She exclaimed. Iida sighed at his girlfriend’s reluctance to share. Whenever she picked a character, that was it. She would literally never pick another one and memorize every combo and stat, and then yell at anyone who even ‘dared’ to think about playing as her character.
“It’s alright, Ochaco!” Iida attempted to diffuse the situation. It was obviously just friendly banter but they quickly learned that it would turn into pillow fights. They were always started by Ochaco. “Remember that the game changes the colors of characters when there are multiples.”
This is how they all ended up playing as different colors of Kirby just to bother Ochaco.
“Izuku!” A high-pitched shout was heard in the hallway, followed by the pitter-patter of small feet running. “Izuku where are you?” the voice whined pitifully and Izuku then realized that it was well past three and Kacchan had most definitely woken up. Alone.
“It’s alright little dude! I’m pretty sure he’s with Todoroki and them,” He heard Kaminari attempt to reason with the toddler but a loud thump was heard from the hallway. “Hey!”
“I don’t want you! I want Izuku!” So Izuku scrambled to his feet and raced out the door to find Kacchan knocking on every door in the hallway and Kaminari rubbing at his shin with a grimace.
“I’m right here, Kacchan.” Kacchan’s head whipped toward him and began to run on his little legs. Izuku quickly kneeled on the ground and scooped up the crying toddler.
“You weren’t there!” Kacchan whined and Izuku’s heart squeezed painfully. He ran his fingers through the other’s blond spikes, lightly scratching at his scalp to calm him. “You left me all alone,” the toddler whimpered, burying his face into the crook of Izuku’s neck.
“I’m so sorry, Kacchan. I didn’t realize what time it was,” Izuku spoke gently. “You know I would never leave you.” Kacchan sniffled into his skin and nodded minutely. Izuku glanced over to Kaminari who was torn between cooing and running away from the wailing toddler.
“He somehow got to the third floor and was pounding on everyone’s doors crying for you so I got him here as fast as I could,” Kaminari explained, the poor guy barely had any experience with kids. Much less one having a meltdown.
“Thank you, Kaminari. He’ll be fine now,” Izuku gave the other teen a grateful smile before walking back into Todoroki’s room. His friends were utterly gobsmacked at the sight of Kacchan clinging tightly to Izuku, still sniffling into his shoulder. Todoroki and Iida looked incredibly uncomfortable, clearly unaware of what they should do. Ochaco and Tsuyu were practically tearing up at the sight, whispering to one another how sweet it was and how good Izuku was with kids. Tokoyami on the other hand was sitting patiently and respectfully looking away from the two to give Kacchan privacy.
“Is he going to um,” Todoroki cleared his throat awkwardly, “be alright? He sounded very distressed.” Izuku smiled at his friend’s concern and sat back down where he’d been previously.
“Yeah, he’ll be fine. Just got a little freaked out was all.” Izuku explained and Todoroki nodded solemnly, not quite sure what he should do.
“I wasn’t freaked out,” Kacchan pulled away and wiped at his ruddy cheeks. “I was just worried something had happened to you.” Izuku held back his chuckle at the obvious lie while Ochaco awed yet again.
“Of course, Kacchan.” Izuku reached for some tissues on Todoroki’s desk and helped the blond blow his nose. Iida and Todoroki both scrunched their faces in disgust, Iida muttering about germs and how unhygienic kids were.
“Do you want to watch us play?” Izuku offered, turning the other around in his lap so he could see the TV. Kacchan pressed himself snuggly against the other’s chest and gave a small nod.
“Are you sure he’ll be ok?” Todoroki asked again, his face deadly serious, eyeing the child warily like it would explode into tears again.
“I’m fine,” Kacchan grumbled, “Icy Hot.” He added just a bit louder. Everyone burst out laughing while Todoroki stared in utter shock at Kacchan.
“Bakugo will always be Bakugo,” Tsuyu chuckled and the rest of them nodded fervently in agreement. They resumed their match and continued playing for a few hours, letting Kacchan try a few times. They quickly learned that he would just mash the buttons, get overexcited, and burn the controller. Todoroki grimaced at the sight of his singed joy-con till he realized that this meant he could buy another set with his father’s credit card.
“‘Zukuuuu,” Kacchan drawled, poking at Izuku’s cheek harshly. “I'm hungry.” The other teens chuckled while Izuku rubbed at his cheek and gently scolded the toddler for being so rough.
“Me too,” Tsuyu stretched and set her controller on the front console. “Yeah, same. I wonder what they’re making downstairs? Since Bakugo can’t make any-” Ochaco faltered when said person stomped right in front of her. An angry scowl and firmly planted fists on hips.
“I can make food!” He proclaimed loudly and angrily, for some reason very irked at the idea of him not being useful in the kitchen. Izuku could see the way everyone was struggling to hold back their snickers at Kacchan’s adorably angry display. Kacchan did not like to be laughed at so Izuku quickly steered the blond toward the door.
“Come on, Kacchan.” Izuku urged him out the door. “Why don’t we go make something then?” That was clearly the right direction of conversation because the furrow in between the toddler’s brows softened. Instead a much more determined expression overtook it.
“Yeah! Let’s make Katsudon! We’ve had all my favorites so now it’s your turn,” Kacchan cheerily supplied, already forgetting the almost volatile encounter in Todoroki’s room. Izuku, though touched by the consideration, was excited. Quite the opposite actually. The teen could cook sure, simple things that didn’t require too much skill. But he’d gotten so used to his Kacchan’s Katsudon that he didn’t like his own Katsudon anymore. He’d easily deemed his personal recipe as too bland into about a week of them moving into the dorms and had abused his privilege of getting it whenever he wanted once they started dating.
“Um,” Izuku churned his mind for different things that they could make. Easy to make, simple to season. “How about rice balls?” Kacchan shook his head fervently, tugging Izuku to the elevator and reaching up on his tip-toes to press all the buttons.
“That’s too easy , ‘Zuku. Plus you love Katsudon and you’re big now! You can do anything!” Izuku’s insides both warmed and wilted at how easily Kacchan said that. It sounded an awful lot like himself with Kacchan.
“Fine,” He acquiesced, giving in far too easily for being the adult in the situation. “But you’re going to have to help me a lot!” He waggled a very imposing and serious finger in the blond’s face. The toddler shrieked and shoved his finger away before bolting to the kitchen with shouts of ‘I’ll beat you there!’. Izuku casually made his way to the kitchen, he knew that there would be other students down here so little Kacchan wouldn’t be unsupervised.
“Sup little Bakugo!” Kirishima greeted the blond enthusiastically. However, the enthusiasm Kacchan gave back was much more, how to put it? Feral? He growled in what one would assume to be the most menacing way possible and snapped at the redhead.
“I’m not little!” Realizing his mistake, Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. Once again Izuku could see how much everyone wanted to laugh but Kirishima thankfully knew better. If it had been Kaminari or Sero, Kacchan probably would’ve thrown an explosion at their shins.
“What are you guys doing down here?” The other teen asked, lifting the small toddler onto his hip and going further into the kitchen.
“‘Zuku and I are gonna make Katsudon!” The blond cheered, throwing his little fists in the air. Kirishima grinned brightly at the cuteness and began to tickle Kacchan’s belly. Of course, under the sudden attack, Kacchan shrieked with laughter and pushed away the offending hand.
“Too much! No more tickling,” He’d finally gotten the other to stop tickling him and was now sternly reprimanding him. For how dare Kirishima even think about tickling Kacchan. During this little exchange, Izuku was able to grab the necessary ingredients and set them on the counter.
“Do you wanna help, Kiri?” Kacchan asked excitedly, bouncing in the other’s arms so much that he set the blond on the counter so he wouldn’t fall. With a grin and a thumbs up, Kirishima joined them in the making of Katsudon. Kacchan very quickly learned that Izuku in fact, could not do everything. Specifically cooking. Izuku had his hand popped so many times by an angry toddler that it began to turn red.
“Jeez, ‘Zuku! You made Kiri and I do all the work!” Kacchan laughed, jumping off the counter onto an unsuspecting Izuku’s back. The teen squawked from the sudden action and wobbled slightly before gaining his composure.
“Kacchan! You scared me, I could’ve dropped you!” Izuku attempted to scold the other but couldn’t keep the smile out of his tone. It didn’t help that Kacchan was busying himself by playing with the stray curls of Izuku’s hair.
“Nah, ‘Zuku would’ve caught me,” Kacchan spoke with absolute certainty. Zero doubt that Izuku would ever let any harm come to him. He certainly wasn’t wrong, Izuku would do anything in his power to make sure Kacchan didn’t get hurt. Regardless of age.
“Yeah, you’re right Kacchan.” Izuku agreed. He carried the two of them over to the table, setting Kacchan down momentarily to grab the bowls of Katsudon. Yaoyorozou had made a little booster attachment for one of the chairs, but Kacchan vehemently refused. He’d thrown an absolute fit of kicking and screaming when Kirishima tried putting him in there. Kacchan had even gotten him lightly with his quirk! They decided quickly that they would just let Kacchan sit in Izuku’s lap. It was the easiest and safest solution.
As they ate, Izuku couldn’t help but praise Kacchan’s cooking. Even though it really had been Izuku and Kirishima doing most of the work, everything was taste-tested by Kacchan at every step. It was surprisingly very good for something that Izuku had made!
“Guys! Come eat the Katsudon Bakugo made!” Kirishima shouted into the common room. The shuffling of hungry and tired teenagers came into the kitchen, all of them eager to eat food that wasn’t frozen or leftovers.
“Wow! This is really good, Bakugo!”
“Yeah, Blasty! I can’t believe you made this!”
“Who would’ve thought that little-” “I’m not little!” “-* cough * Bakugo could make something so tasty!” Kaminari choked on his food when the toddler growled at him, pointing his chopsticks menacingly at the blond teenager.
“Thank you,” Kacchan hmphed, happy with the praise, and continued to munch. They talked idly, filling in the blank spaces here and there while they ate. Everyone was tired after such a long week of studying and testing. Somehow it was even more draining than actual training, exercising the mind is a completely different type of strain.
Once they finished dinner, they meandered their way into the common room. Kacchan played with Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero. He absolutely loved the toys that Aizawa had brought, even more so the ones that Yaoyorozou had made. She of course went the extra mile and made them stupidly detailed and had fun little things that shot out and made noise. She did come to regret that decision when Kacchan decided to shoot the little plastic beams from the toy everywhere . It was a pain to clean up. While Kacchan played, Izuku took some time to himself. Don’t get him wrong or anything, he loved spending time with Kacchan, especially while he was like this, but it was mildly draining. He went upstairs to his room and tidied up a bit. Kacchan played with the All Might figurines while Izuku got dressed in the mornings, Izuku had made him swear to be extra careful, and it had gotten a little messy. The older teen wasn’t exactly strict and didn’t make the other clean up after himself unless it was in the common room. He was too busy spoiling the little thing with attention. He couldn’t help it! Little Kacchan was just so cute! He also caught up on some Hero forums, he hadn’t been able to read them because Kacchan very much demanded all of his attention, not that he needed that much convincing anyway.
It wasn’t till his door was kicked open, revealing a grinning Kacchan. Kiriwhima and Kaminari were there too but Izuku wasn’t all that concerned about them.
“Bath time!” The toddler cheered, rushing in to tug at Izuku’s arms. “Come on, ‘Zuku!” he whined when the other didn’t budge from his efforts. Izuku chuckled and allowed himself to be dragged down to the baths. Once again there was a water war because who was going to say no to Kacchan? Well, Todoroki probably would but he was having way too much fun giving Kacchan a hard time. If the blond remembered any of this, he was definitely going after Todoroki for being an ass.
“‘Zuku look at me!” Kacchan called from the opposite side of the baths, he was beside Kaminari and Sero. Izuku grimaced slightly, he already knew that the two teens had convinced Kacchan to do something he most definitely shouldn’t be doing.
“I’m watching, Kacchan.” He answered even though he wanted to look away, mildly afraid of what he was going to do. The toddler geared himself up and settled down into the water, putting his hands behind him like he did when he flew. Izuku heard muted pops and crackles, the water bubbling up where Kacchan stood but was left steaming as Kacchan propelled him across the water toward Izuku.
“Ah! Too hot! Too hot!” Kaminari yelped, rushing over to a different area that was not steaming. Kacchan only laughed, his shrill laughter echoed and it was of course contagious, like any toddler’s life was, and soon everyone found themselves chukcling along.
“Did you see what I did? Wasn’t it awesome?” Kacchan asked brightly, looking up at Izuku with wide eyes searching for praise. Izuku happily did, Kacchan was always amazing.
“It was super cool, Kacchan!” The toddler preened slightly and it made Izuku giggle at the smug expression.
“I’m gonna do it again!” Kacchan decided, he climbed out of the bath and ran back to the other side, hopping back in and once again propelling himself to the various people in the water. The only person he didn’t get too close to was Todoroki. Though he would never admit it, the blond was afraid that the teen would freeze him again.
“Careful, Kacchan,” Izuku warned, warily eyeing the wet tiles the toddler was running on. “I don’t want you to slip and fall.” Kacchan rolled his eyes at the concern and scoffed.
“I’ll be fine, ‘Zuku. I never fall.”
Famous last words.
Kacchan did, in fact, fall. Quite hard honestly. He slipped and fell forward, busting his chin on the cold, wet tile. The resounding thud was the only sound in the room, echoing off the walls while everyone held their breath. Waiting to see how Kacchan would react. It took him a moment, stunned by the harsh impact. Not even a minute later the blond was wailing , face contorted harshly and clutching his chin. Izuku rushed over to him, cradling the toddler in his arms and attempting to soothe him. The rest of the boys sat awkwardly in the baths, unsure of what they should do, and averted their eyes to focus on the ever-so-interesting bathwater.
“Hey it’s ok,” Izuku spoke gently, attempting to pry the other’s hands away from his chin so he could see the damage. “Can I see your chin please, Kacchan?” The blond vehemently shook his head, crying even harder, and turned so his face was buried into the crook of Izuku’s neck. The teen sighed, other than holding him and telling him it was ok, he had no idea what else to do. An ice pack maybe? Would Kacchan even use it? He hates cold things.
“Let’s get you dry, Kacchan. Then we go upstairs ok?” Izuku placed the other down softly, he was still sniffling, a few cries still breaking through his lips though he tried to keep them in. His cheeks were all ruddy and tear-stained and his chin was an ugly red but didn’t appear to be bleeding. Thank god. How would he even begin to explain to Aizawa what had occurred if Kacchan had busted his chin open? The toddler stood quietly, allowing Izuku to towel dry him and whisk him away upstairs wrapped in a dry towel. As they left, the boys whispered varying apologies to Izuku but he waved them off. Kacchan was bound to get hurt at some point, that's what kids do.
“Why don’t we get ready for bed and then we can snuggle? Would that make you feel better?” Izuku offered once they were back in his room. Kacchan nodded minutely, still quiet aside from his sniffling. His chin would surely be bruised tomorrow but he’d be fine. He’d probably forget about it soon anyway. They got changed and brushed their teeth and Kacchan shuffled into the bed as quickly as possible. Burrowing into a tiny ball underneath the covers and burying his face into the pillow. Izuku’s heart cracked a bit at the pitiful sight and slid in beside Kacchan. As soon as he was settled, Kacchan darted over to his side and nuzzled into Izuku’s chest, gripping his t-shirt in tiny clenched fists.
“You think you’ll be alright, Kacchan?” Izuku asked, running his fingers through the slightly damp blond spikes. Kacchan didn’t answer for a moment, nodding his head slowly in response. “Does it still hurt that bad?” a bit more concern bled into his question than he would’ve liked, he knew Kacchan would be embarrassed about the ordeal.
“I didn’t mean to fall,” Kacchan whispered, voice hoarse from his crying. “I never fall.” Izuku hugged the small boy tightly to his chest and pressed a soft kiss to the crown of his forehead.
“It’s ok, Kacchan. Everyone falls sometimes,” Izuku let his head rest atop the other’s head. “You’re still the amazing Kacchan.” The blond’s shoulders relaxed when he heard that, his whole body going lax and settling into a more comfortable position that he could sleep in.
“Thank you, ‘Zuku,” Kacchan spoke quietly. He didn’t thank anyone, he hated it, so instead of making it a big deal, Izuku just rubbed small circles into the other’s back.
“Hey, ‘Zuku?” Kacchan blinked up at the teen. “Do you have a quirk now?” He asked and Izuku smiled gently. Kacchan hadn’t asked about it the entire time and he was kind of surprised. He hadn’t wanted to show it to him in front of everyone because there was no way he wouldn’t notice that it was similar to All Might’s.
“Yep. You want to see?” Kacchan nodded as enthusiastically as possible while still being tired. Izuku chuckled and held his hand between the two of them and let One for All course through it. Green lightning danced between his fingers, weaving around them and wrapping around his fist. The blond gasped in amazement, eyes wide with wonder.
“So cool, ‘Zuku.” He whispered in awe before yawning loudly, smacking his lips before falling asleep.
“Goodnight, Kacchan,” Izuku smiled softly, his body betraying him, and fell asleep swiftly after the toddler.
–
“What the fuck?” Kacchan’s raspy voice cut through the silent room, waking Izuku up from his peaceful sleep. He frowned at the curse.
“Don’t say that, Kacchan.” He scolded and tugged the other closer in an attempt to lull the other back to sleep.
“Hah? Why not? Jesus get off me why the fuck are my clothes so goddamn tight?” Kacchan’s voice only grew louder so Izuku begrudgingly opened his eyes, a sleepy scowl darkening his features.
“What’re you looking at me like that for, Nerd?” The blond pulled away and ripped off his shirt, or what was left of it at least. The seams had all ripped and were barely staying on him. “What the fuck happened to my pants?” Kacchan exclaimed, much too loud in Izuku’s opinion.
“Just come back to bed, Kacchan.” He groaned, rolling over as the other climbed out of bed. Pitifully he made little grabby hands for the other to come back. The blond snorted at the action and swatted the hands away.
“Jesus, lemme get changed first I’ll be right back.” Izuku blinked slowly, taking in the image of Kacchan tugging on a pair of the other’s pants before it clicked in his brain.
“You’re back!” The greenette launched himself out of bed and attached himself to the other in a tight hug. The other stiffened at the reaction before turning around to reciprocate the hug.
“What’re you talking about? I’ve been here the whole time?” Kacchan asked concernidly and Izuku realized that the other didn’t remember anything . He smiled to himself and just tugged the other back to bed.
“You’re right sorry, I’ll tell you tomorrow.” Kacchan raised a suspicious eyebrow but followed the other into bed. Now that Kacchan was full-sized again, Izuku draped himself across the blond’s chest. His cheek resting right on his shoulder, his arm and leg thrown across his boyfriend. Kacchan chuckled but didn’t question the clinginess. He wrapped his arms around Izuku and kissed the top of his head softly. Izuku sighed happily, and sunk into the blond’s hold, and fell asleep.
He’ll worry about explaining it all to Kacchan in the morning.
