Work Text:
Kurt has been enrolled at Dalton for about 6 weeks so far and he is still trying to figure out everything works here and how he fits in. Kurt was happier here and the Warblers were making him welcome and more included in the last 6 weeks than anyone at McKinley had in the last 2 years. But there were strange traditions and habits at the prep school that Kurt was still trying to get his head around and today most of his friends had been acting weirder than normal.
Nick & Jeff had disappeared after dinner to do homework together, ok maybe that wasn't that unusual, Niff disappeared to have a makeout session most days but there was no cheeky wink from Jeff as he left the common room with his boyfriend this time.
Wes and David had dragged Blaine to an emergency Warbler’s council meeting, but did not say why. Kurt had offered to meet Blaine later for warm milk and chat before lights out like they did most nights. Blaine had told him that the meeting would go on late so he would see him at breakfast the next morning. Even Trent had made an excuse about needing to find a book in the library and still had not returned 2 hours later.
Kurt's phone pinged with a notification; he looked at it in a flash, hoping that it was a text from one of the Warblers asking him to join them, but it wasn't. It was a notification from the silly phases of the moon app Blaine made him download when he transferred to Dalton, telling him that it was a full moon tonight.
Kurt was fed up with being on his own now, and he realized that he had been staring at the same question in his pre calculus homework for the last 20 mins and it still did not make any sense, so he decided to pack his books back in his bag and go back to his dorm room.
Kurt looked at the corridor window and noticed it was a still, clear night out there and the moon was so full and bright he could see as far as to the woods at the edge of the grounds. Blaine was right Dalton was beautiful by the light of a full moon. This was the first time Kurt had been at Dalton to see it, last month's full moon was on Friday and Kurt remembers sitting on the back porch at home with his Dad looking up at the moon and telling him all about Blaine and the Warblers, ok mostly about Blaine.
Kurt continued the walk back to the dorms, he hoped Niff had gone back to Jeff and Blaine's room rather than Nick and Kurt's room tonight. He noticed the hallways seemed emptier and quieter than he had even seen them. Dalton seemed like a ghost town tonight. Kurt thought to himself maybe he wouldn’t mind walking in on NIck & Jeff getting their mack on in his room, at least he would see another person and wouldn't be all alone.
Dorms seemed as quiet and empty as the rest of the school when he got there, Kurt couldn't hear any music coming out of any room, no shouting at Xbox games or no laugher. His room was on the same corridor as most of the other Warblers, there was always music or singing coming from somewhere but not tonight.
Kurt opened his door slowly and announced “Nick I'm home" before walking just in case the lover boys were busy but it was empty and lights were off. Kurt dropped his bag and started getting ready for bed. He might as well have an early night as there was nothing else to do. Kurt picked up some sweats and a old Hummel Tires & lubes tee and went to the en suite to get washed and changed.
After he came out ready for bed, Kurt heard a noise outside. Was it a howling? He went to look out of the dorm window that looked out to the woods. Kurt thought he saw a pack of dogs running across the lacrosse pitch towards the trees. Then he heard howling again. It was definitely howling he was hearing but he could hear a harmony within it.The sound was calling to him like a siren call,
Kurt did not like scary movies but thanks to Puck and the New Direction movie nights, he had watched enough horror movies to know that walking in the woods alone, late at night on your own, after the source of strange noises was not likely to end with him finding rainbows and puppy dogs. Kurt knew that he was on his own and if Dalton was Hogwarts, like everyone jokes, then this would be like walking into the forbidden forest without Ron and Hermione, or wand by his side, it wasn't a good idea.
Kurt should just close the curtains and crawl in his bed, forget about all about the howling, fall asleep and hopefully have nice dreams about a gorgeous short, curly haired Warblers soloist taking for him a date and the amazing good night kiss that would take both of their breaths away.
More howls drifted across from the woods, getting right to the core of him. Kurt put on his boots, a Dalton hoodie and his Pea coat, he shoved his keys and gloves in his coat pockets. He spotted Blaine’s black beanie on his desk his best friend/crush had left there the day before, Kurt pulled it on down over his ears, he wasn't worried about hat hair at this time of night, it was chilly out there and if he was about to walk into a horror movie then at least he wanted something of Blaine with him when he died and beanie even smelt of raspberry gel Blaine was far to overly fond off.
The howling and the moon was still calling him and his soul, so he wrote a note that said ‘I've gone in the woods’ and left it on Nick's bed so at least if he did not return they would know where to start looking for his dead body in the morning.
Kurt left his dorm and hurried down the stairs and out of the side exit of the dorms and started walking across the pitch to woods, as he walked Kurt started to hum the last midnight from into the woods to himself. After a few minutes he walked through the edge of the woods, into the thick of it. He stopped and he wondered which way to go but he spotted in the corner of his eye a light coloured creature running towards a clearing in the dark woods a bit further on. Kurt thought well I've come this far and followed after it.
When Kurt got to the clearing, the creature had vanished, Kurt wondered if it was a wolf or something else?. The countertenor looked around the clearing; it looked magical and strangely beautiful in the moonlight it was currently bathed in. From the far side, 2 wolves slowly appeared, walking towards him, one was a little bit ahead of the other . They were about the same size, both looked lean but strong. The first wolf had straight chocolate fur, he held his head with an air of sureness and elegance, the second wolf had a tighter raven coat with chocolate eyes, he had the feel of elegance and grace about him too.
Kurt knew he should be more scared than he was but he felt strangely calm, both wolves looked at him with friendly eyes that he felt like he had seen before, Kurt crouched down and held his hand out so they did not see him as a threat and said “Hi”.
A few moments later 2 more wolves came bounding out of the woods towards him. These 2 looked younger and less poised than the first couple. The blonde wolf was one that Kurt had followed to the clearing. Kurt could get a better look at him now, the wolf had friendly brown eyes, he was all limbs and nervous energy, his tail did not stop wagging and he looked like he would have trouble staying still for too long. He had a longer bit of fur that kept falling into his eyes, and the wolf kept trying to flick it to the side with his paw. His partner had brown fur, was about the same height but was stockier and seemed more grounded than the blonde one who was now nuzzling at the other wolf neck. The brown wolf looked up at Kurt with an equally friendly look as his mate but overall more chilled . Kurt noticed the brown wolf had crossed his front paw with the blonde wolf that seemed to calm him down straight away.
Kurt wondered if the wolves were holding hands.
Then it came to Kurt like he had been struck by a lighting bolt.
“Niff”exclaimed Kurt. The blonde wolf wagged his tail even harder and gave Kurt a cheeky wink “It is you guys!”
Both Nick and Jeff gave Kurt big smiles and leaped at him playfully knocking him to the ground and trying to give him a group hug, just like they would on any normal day. A gentle bark stopped cuddles as Nick and Jeff backed away so Kurt could sit up,
Kurt looked up at the direction of a second bark from the more mature chocolate coloured wolf, who was pawing at the ground like it was trying to hold on to something and to bring the pack to order. “Wes?” asked Kurt then looked towards the other wolf “and David?” Wes rolled his eyes at Kurt, David smiled and tilted his head like he normally does when he is pleased with a number in Warblers rehearsals.
Kurt noticed a fifth more shyer wolf standing at the edge of the clearing, mousy brown wolf, hazel eyes, who looked softer, more cuddlier that the others, Kurt was sure that this wolf could still bite off his arm if he wanted to, but Kurt felt like this wolf would never want to. The wolf’s eyes were kind. “Hey Trent, are you gonna come and say hello too”
Trent walked over to Kurt and presented his paw for the human to shake. Kurt shook it then wrapped his arms around his friend for a hug, Trent’s fur was so soft and smelt of Trent's coconut shampoo .
“Trent” asked Kurt nervously, as he wasn't sure he actually wanted to know the answer to his question but he knew he needed to know “is there one of you that's not made his entrance yet ?” Trent barked a quiet yes, Jeff barked louder to gain Kurts attention and turned his head trying get the human to follow his line of sight to the side of clearing,
Another wolf came bounding it and jumped on to a fallen tree trunk in the middle of the clearing, like it was a leather sofa in the senior common room, and let out a howl that sounded like the “oh yeah” at the start of Misery that the Warblers have been practicing earlier in the week.
This wolf was smaller, with mass of dark wayward curls, bundle of youthful energy, a cute lopsided smile that Kurt would recognize anywhere and seemed to be wired straight to his heart. Kurt had covered the 10 feet so he was in front of the trunk without even realizing. "Blaine" Kurt sighed softly
Kurt thought “human” Blaine had puppy dog eyes but they had nothing on the giant puppy dog eyes that now looked up at him. Kurt would know those big hazel eyes flecked with amber anywhere.
Blaine placed his muzzle into Kurt's neck and sniffed in Kurt's scent. Blaine fur felt soft against Kurt's pale skin. Kurt wrapped one arm around the gorgeous wolf and carded the other through the fur on the wolf's head between their ears, Kurt was taking in the wolf scent too, sandalwood and hints of raspberries, yep it was definitely Blaine.
Kurt made a mental note to talk to human Blaine the next day about using less gel as Kurt was loving running his fingers through Blaine’s curls. "Oh hell Kurt, Yes getting Blaine to use less gel, is the most important conversation that needs to take place tomorrow between him and the Warblers. They are werewolves for Gaga sake!!!! Are you gonna ignore that fact and go with hair gel?" Kurt subconscious argued with him.
Seemed like short wolf liked Kurt's hands in fur as Blaine give out a soft whimper, then licked a strip down behind Kurt's ear, which made Kurt feel as fuzzy inside and forget about all possible conversations that may happen tomorrow about lycanthrope or hair gel or any else for that matter too. Kurt let out a moan. Which made Blaine nuzzle in closer to Kurt which made Kurt wrapped his arm tighter around the wolf,
Blaine pulled back a few moments later and looked up at the countertenor with hazel eyes, filled with love and hope.
Kurt knew that those eyes owned his soul whatever form the body took.
Blaine saw the same love in Kurt's blues eyes looking back at him. Blaine and his wolf both agreed they were looking at their soulmate.
