Chapter Text
Trees whizzed by in a blur as the train sped down the forest tracks.
The sun was just starting to set and everyone was tired of the long ride lasting all day. Some were sleeping, starting to doze off, or making small talk amongst each other to pass the time.
John stared at the forest and orange sky, the mountains afar, he had a sense of warmth within his chest. This wasn’t like Tuefort where it was surrounded by mostly sand. Not an environment for him, really. But, this was a place called Gorge. It was mostly alpine, but somewhere within it was an industrial area; where the teams would fight.
Either way, the amount of trees and mountains he could already see was magnificent for him. Maybe I can get some free time for me. John thought to himself, feeling himself starting to doze off.
However, just as he was able to properly sleep, the train slowed to a halt. He, along with everyone else, stirred and shakily rose to their feet, stretching out their joints and beginning to collect their essentials.
John was the first off the train, clutching a bag of clothes, the industrial area, where they were stationed at, stood out like a sore thumb compared to the alpine around. It almost made him feel disappointed. He tried not to think about it as he stepped inside. It was empty but clean, it had a faint smell of cleaning supplies.
Maybe Miss Pauling cleaned here. John thought to himself as he made his way down towards the barracks. Once he found the room he (and his father) would occupy, he flopped down on the first bed he saw with a groan.
A part of him was upset, not at the fact that he was here, he already liked the environment. But at the fact that he was sharing a room with his father. He didn’t have a serious problem with it, but he had thought that he would get his own room this time.
But, alas, there were only nine rooms and Sniper couldn’t bring his camper van.
John heard everyone else file into the house, finding their rooms, and settling themselves in. So, as the door opened, he slipped out and began to walk outside.
He stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked at the landscape that was so far away. The mountains were so high they had clouds going through them. It looked like it would be a long and hard journey to climb… for a human that is.
John smirked to himself, cheekily reminding himself that he had a large set of wings hidden beneath his skin. Oh, how he wished he could go there right now.
But at the sound of his named being called from within the base, he slowly turned around and went back inside to assist.
