The bane of Atsushi’s existence begins during an argument between Dazai and Kunikida.
Dazai was purposefully answering any question he was asked wrong. “Dazai you idiot don’t tell me you can’t do basic math!” Kunikida screamed.
“2+2 is fish Kunikida, if you flip one of the twos and put them together it makes a fish,” Dazai said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“It’s the simplest question, Atsushi, what’s two plus two?” Kunikida asked
Atsushi stuttered out, “I don’t know!” Their arguing stopped as the two of them turned their heads to look at him.
“Are you serious?” Kunikida sounded worried.
“Yeah, I don’t know,” Atsushi barely managed to say.
“This is great Kunikida, you can find your roots again and teach Atsushi math!” Dazai sang.
And after a long talk with Kunikida and Fukuzawa Atsushi found himself in the meeting room. With a frustrated Kunikida standing over him.
Okay Atsushi, if you have two candies and I give you two more, how many candies do you have?” Kunikida had become aware of just how big Atsushi’s knowledge gap was.
“Umm,” Atsushi counted on his hands,” Two, three, . . . four! I think. .”
“Four what, apples? Bananas?” Kunikida screeched.
“Four candies? Maybe three?” Atsushi said hopefully,
“You had it right the first time.” Kunikida sighed.
“This is so hard, I wanna go do something else. This is torture,” Atsushi whined. From the other room, he could hear Naomi giggle.
“You need to know this to be able to manage money, do paperwork... How have you been doing your paperwork?!” Kunikida yelled.
“I’d ask Ranpo to deduce the answers, and Akutagawa buys everything for me,” Atsushi explained.
Astonishment didn't even begin to explain Kunikida’s emotions. “You are incomprehensible.”
Atsushi giggled.
