Work Text:
Elena couldn't believe what happened.
She had turned off her emotions after Damon told her to do so.
And she was finally able to see things how they really were.
She remembered how he compelled her into daggering Elijah.
She remembered how the same thing was made with Rebekah.
She remembered how he was when Katherine persuaded him in some crazy actions.
She remembered how he convinced her into killing Kol.
"Elena…"
Elena looked at him, the man she thought she loved. "Damon."
"I know that it was wrong but… you were suffering and I couldn't…"
Elena snapped. "What, let me make my own decisions? You took away my right to properly mourn my brother!" Elena pointed to Damon. "Was it a huge pain? Of course it was. But I deserved to cry as I wanted, I deserved to grieve my loss! Jeremy deserved better!"
Damon looked at her, pain and regret swirling in her eyes. "What can I do to make it up to you?"
"Get out of my life." Elena replied. "It's the only thing you can do."
Damon nodded. "I will. I... I'm sorry, Elena. I really thought I was helping you."
"I know." Elena replied. "I know you would never hurt me on purpose. But that's what you keep doing."
When Damon disappeared from her sight, the girl picked up the phone and dialed a number she had called very few times.
The other person answered on the second ring. "How is Elena with humanity?"
“Do you feel like leaving this city and going anywhere?”
There was a moment of silence, and then. "Well, we didn't really enjoy New York."
Elena smiled. "It's a beautiful first stop. I'm coming to your place."
