"The only place we're going is to the pharmacy."

Summary:

“You’re the smartest man in the world! You know damn well what happens if you leave strep throat untreated!” “It’s just a sore throat!” “And I know for a fact it’s not ‘just a sore throat’. As a doctor, I’m pretty sure sore throats don’t have white spots.”

Day 10: "The only place we're going is to the pharmacy."

Notes:

Well, I'm a little late in posting this, but hey, it's still the 10th for me! This wasn't supposed to be a Chase/Kaz/Oliver fic, but I'm not mad about it. Bree and Skylar are mentioned, but they don't have any speaking parts, so I didn't include them in the characters list. Anyways, enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“You’re the smartest man in the world! You know damn well what happens if you leave strep throat untreated!”

“It’s just a sore throat!”

“And I know for a fact it’s not ‘just a sore throat’. As a doctor, I’m pretty sure sore throats don’t have white spots.”

“I’m. Fine.”

“You. Are not.”

Chase glowered at Kaz. He loved his boyfriend, he really did, but he was fine! Okay, yeah, sure, his body and head ached, and his sore throat did come on suddenly and swallowing anything was a chore, but that didn’t mean anything! Chase had been up for almost twenty hours and couldn’t remember when he last had a drink.

So, when Kaz had asked how he was, he didn’t think anything of it and told his boyfriend his symptoms. Immediately, Kaz had shone his phone flashlight into Chase’s mouth, which had made Chase wince.

Which now led to the present argument. Chase couldn’t afford to slow down, not with everything he needed to do to keep Davenport Industries running. With Rodissius and his children behind bars, Centium City became a peaceful place to live. Even though the members of the Elite Force still lived in Mr Davenport’s penthouse, they didn’t have any need to interact with one another as often as they used to.

While Chase grew into his position as CEO of Davenport Industries, both Kaz and Oliver became full-fledged doctors (a fact Chase was immensely proud of). Despite the rough beginnings, the three formed a relationship of respect and trust that turned into something more profound. As it had turned out, Kaz loved both Chase and Oliver, and both of them loved Kaz in return. It took a while for Oliver and Chase to feel comfortable calling one another boyfriends, but Chase wouldn’t have it any other way. Kaz and Oliver were his, and he refused to let them go.

Skylar and Bree were on a long road trip to see the world and figure out who they were outside their hero personas. Even though both heroines had seen lots of places due to their superspeed and flight, the two had decided to take their time and spend time in each location they were at. Bree and Skylar were never gone for longer than a month and always returned for at least two weeks before going back out.

(Chase also knew Bree was trying to figure out how to propose to Skylar.)

Every once in a while, Adam and Leo visited the penthouse. Sometimes, if they were lucky, Tasha, Nyomi, and Mr Davenport would tag along. Douglas came to the penthouse every Friday night to check on everyone (not that he’d admit it aloud).

The sound of footsteps brought Chase from his thoughts.

“You two better not be doing anything without me!”

Kaz rolled his eyes.

“If you mean scolding our idiot of a boyfriend, then yes, yes, I am,” Kaz called back.

Oliver’s head popped around the corner.

“What’s going on?”

“I’m pretty sure Chase has strep,” Kaz told him.

“It’s just a sore throat,” Chase argued weakly.

Oliver raised an eyebrow and turned to Kaz.

“Symptoms?”

“Headache, body ache, sore throat that came on suddenly, difficulty swallowing, white spots in the back of the throat,” Kaz listed off.

“I hate to say it, but that sounds like strep, Chase,” Oliver winced.

“That’s what I said!”

Finally, Oliver slid a pair of nitrile gloves on his hands and cupped Chase’s forehead. Then, his long fingers gently pressed against the sides of Chase’s neck, and Chase hissed at the pressure.

“Mild fever from what I can tell,” Oliver noted to Kaz. “His lymph nodes feel swollen and seem to be tender. No rash that I can see.”

“Okay, that settles it,” Kaz sighed and turned his attention to Chase. “You have strep, whether you accept it or not. Oliver and I will write you a prescription for amoxicillin. The strep should be gone once you’re out of medication.”

“But I thought we were going to dinner,” Chase protested.

“The only place we’re going is to the pharmacy.”

With that, Oliver snapped his gloves off his hands and threw them into the trash bin as Kaz dragged Chase to the car.

Two hours later, Chase was sitting between Kaz and Oliver on the couch in the penthouse. Chase’s head was pillowed on Oliver’s chest while Kaz lay on him like a heated and weighted blanket. Chase’s soft breathing indicated he was asleep, and Oliver and Kaz were inclined to let the boy rest. The dark smudges under his eyes spoke of many sleepless nights.

“At least he admitted to being sick,” Oliver mused.

“Technically, he didn’t,” Kaz countered lightly. “We bullied him into the idea that he was sick.”

“Same thing.”

Kaz snorted.

“I’m just glad he was deep enough into his work he didn’t realise he was telling me his symptoms,” Kaz murmured.

“How long do you think he would have kept quiet?” Oliver asked softly.

“Best case scenario would have been tomorrow. But, knowing how his brain works, it would have been cutting things close.”

“Sadly, I think you’re right.”

“Do you think Davenport puts too much pressure on him?”

“Maybe, but Chase puts it on himself, too.”

Oliver and Kaz froze when they heard Chase groan softly. Luckily, the bionic hero settled down again, and the two doctors sighed in relief. They turned their attention back to the TV. As the mindless show droned on, Oliver and Kaz drifted off to sleep.

(Little did they know, Chase was semi-conscious the whole time. Upon realising his boyfriends were asleep, he smiled and followed them into slumber.)

Notes:

So, how was it? Good? Bad? Meh? Lemme know! I love hearing about my writing :D
