Fluff
“Tanner, are you blushing?”
Bill looks up from his mobile and sees Moneypenny standing before his desk. “You are,” she says. “M’s texting dirty things to you?” And before he can do anything, she grabs his mobile.
Bill just sighs and waits for it.
“‘I miss you’,” she recites. “This is what M texts you when he’s away?”
Romance
The rowboat looks suspiciously non-buoyant to Bill’s less than trained eyes. When he voices his doubts to his lover, M huffs.
“It’s been in my family for several generations,” he says. “It’s sturdy enough for our purposes.”
“What, drowning?”
“Bill, my love, I’m taking you for a romantic boat ride on the lake even if it kills me!”
Established relationship
“Do not look at me. Do not talk to me. Do not even breathe in my general direction.”
Bill almost shivers at the way the hidden threat in M’s words make him feel. Bond, their target, simply looks bored, though there’s a hint of amusement mixed in there somewhere.
For Bill, it’s enough to make him wish that they were home alone.
Getting together
“Why don’t you tell him how you feel?”
Bill frowns at Bond. “I’m not looking for trouble. I’m not you, after all.”
“What a horrible way to live,” Bond grins. But he openly flirts with Q on comms, so what does he know?
“I agree,” says an amused M, and goes on to ask Bill out for a date. So maybe Bond does know something.
Mission fic
Sitting next to M on a golf cart isn’t where Bill expected to be upon joining one of 007’s missions.
“Do you even play golf?” he asked his lover.
“Of course not,” M had replied. “But neither does Bond’s target, so we’ll find common ground with him.”
Witnessing Bond engage in certain indiscretions with his wife may not be it, but at least golf carts aren’t very fast.
Outsider pov
“Huh,” says Bond pensively.
Q looks up at his lover. “Don’t tell me, Moneypenny’s kissing 004 again?”
“No, it’s M and Tanner,” Bond replies. “Look.” And he points at the screen where M is leaning over Tanner’s chair.
“Yes, they’re together, what of it?”
“Trevelyan owes me £50, is all,” Bond grins.
Pre-relationship
Bill has seen M knitting in his office several times while working for him. This time, though, M’s not alone. Several others are there with him, and they’re all knitting socks.
“The infamous MI6 knitting club?” Bill guesses.
He’d never expected to hear that Bond was the one who founded it, however.
Merman AU
Bill looks at the way M’s tail glitters in the sun and how his long fingers skim the water. A stingray comes up to the surface and gets a pet for its troubles.
“Are fish supposed to do that?” Bill asks.
M grins. “If you’re me.”
Right. That settles it, no more fishing for him.
Slice of Life
“Are you sure that you want to do that?”
Bill glances at his lover. “Well I was,” he says dryly. “Now I’m not.”
M shrugs. “Do go ahead. It’ll help me win if you do.”
Bill looks down at the chessboard between them and curses under his breath. M’s right, the bastard.
Tanner is a 00 AU
The train is full, or that’s what the man knocking on his compartment door says. He asks if he could join Bill, loud enough to be heard by anyone loitering around.
“Q sent me,” M says when he’s safely inside. Bill raises an eyebrow. “Fine, I told him I’d do it.”
“You’ve got something for me, then?”
M nods and kisses him.
