Today was a long day. You just got off of work and returned to your apartment. Working at the pool can be nice, unless your co-workers decide to be lazy that day. Plus all the rude people you had to deal with as a manager. So sorry that one of the lifeguards said to not run around the pool.
As you open the door to your home, happiness bubbles inside you knowing that your boyfriend got off work a few hours ago. Or, one of your partners since Mike does have DID. Honestly speaking, anyone could be fronting and you aren't certain of who. You always text Mike before driving home, and usually there is some indicator of who is fronting at that time. This time, all you got was "okay, love you." What are you supposed to get from a text like that? Well, it'll be a hopefully pleasant surprise.
As you enter the apartment, you notice 'Mike' sitting on the couch. He is clearly upset and with his bangs covering his right eye, you can guess who's in control. "Mal, is everything okay?" Guess it's been a long day for him too, considering he's fronting. Something bad must have happened at work. Mal looks at you for a moment then leans his head on the back of the couch, staring at the ceiling.
"Rough day, huh?" He only grumbles in response. You guess he doesn't feel like talking. Welp, there is only one option!
You sit next to him on the couch, your arm stretched out for him. Mal sees this and leans onto you, resting his head on your shoulder. You wrap your arm around his torso as he rests his hand on your chest. You both cuddle together, his warmth giving you comfort. It's making you tired as you yawn. Mal takes notice and gives you a soft kiss on the cheek, which you return. Soon you drift to sleep, and he does the same.
When you wake up, you notice you both are now laying on the couch. Mal is on top of you, lightly snoring. This makes you smile, as this is one of those few days where he isn't haunted by nightmares. It hurts you knowing how your boyfriend and his alters had to go through hell, constantly haunted by those memories of that trauma. So to see the one who remembers that trauma sleeping peacefully on you, it makes you feel so warm inside.
You give him a soft kiss on the cheek, thankfully he doesn't wake up. The sounds of his soft breathing and light snoring fill the air as you fall back asleep.
