Work Text:
"Hizashi?" Izuku calls from his bedroom.
The blond hero stands from the couch, stretches, and answers, "what's up green bean?"
"Can I come to work with you today?" His voice is cheery.
"I don't see-"
The kid cuts him off, rounding the corner to the room, "wait, pronouns."
"He him please." He smiles, "thank you izu. Anyway, I don't see why not. You gotta get ready soon though."
"Yessir!" Izuku spins on his heels and is gone in an instant.
It’s been about three weeks since Izuku's Tourettes diagnosis, and the medication that he had been put on was working miracles. Tics were few and far apart, and the boy seemed so much happier.
It’s not long later that he comes bounding into the room again, practically running straight into Hizashi.
“Slow down green bean!” The man laughs, “Are you ready to go?”
Izuku nods, slips his hand into Hizashis, and then they’re off.
…..
The station is quiet, not silent; but quiet. There is no excitement in the air, no sweet whistle of songs, nothing.
That is until Izuku skips happily into the building and everything changes.
“Hey hey green bean.”
“Hi kid.”
“Afternoon Zuku.”
Izuku is laughing, loudly, smiling at Hizashi before sprinting off to the recording studio. He can’t wait for the show to start.
When the designated time for the radio to turn on ticks across the screen, Izuku bounces in his chair. The blond hero passes him a pair of headphones before sliding on his own and pressing the live button.
“Good evening listeners! Green bean is here and ready to talk so we will go ahead and let him speak, and then we’ll play some tunes.” Present mic smiles, flipping a switch that allows Izuku to speak now.
The green haired boy grins wildly, “Heyo! I’m looking for a lucky caller to talk to before the music starts and- Oop- got one!” Izuku talks just like his dad guardian as he clicks the button to answer the call.
“He- hello?” there's a young but gruff voice on the other end, “I- you uh- you just reminded me of someone so I thought I’d call in.”
Hizashi smiles, turning back to face his foster son and is met with a face of sheer horror.
He isn’t able to ask anything before the boy in front of him starts speaking at a million miles a minute. “Kacchan? Is that you? You sound like you but if it’s not you then you probably are freaked out by me asking oh my god I’m gonna shut up now.” His lips seal shut and the line is silent.
“Huh.” The voice on the other end starts, “it’s about time I found you nerd.”
…
Masura had been watching every single night as his son tuned into the same radio station.
Every night at exactly 10:15 he would lock himself in his room, and wait.
Sometimes he would call in with the hopes of talking to some guest speaker.
And then suddenly, the blond haired boy bursts into his and his wife’s room. Mitsuki isn’t happy, she has to be up early and yet their son is standing in the doorway, breathing heavily as if he had sprinted from his room.
“I-“ he pauses to take a much needed breath, “I found Izuku.”
Well shit. It was going to be a long night.
…
Shouta tended to wear an earpiece during his patrols, with the specific purpose of listening to his partner and foster son.
He noticed the awkward moment of silence when Izuku spoke to the first caller of the night. And then words are being spewed faster than he can understand. He would be surprised if anyone could understand him.
“It’s about time I found you nerd.” The caller speaks and Shouta can’t decide if that was spoken with relief or anger, maybe an old friend or possibly a bad person looking for him.
They still haven’t been able to locate Izuku mom, they had her information, but she seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
Hizashi voice clips across the line, “alright listeners! We’ll be right back! For now, let’s listen to some tunes.”
Music starts playing in his ear and Shouta just knows it’s going to be a long night.
…
Hizashi did not expect the Izuku to turn to him and quickly sign to please let them talk privately. But he did obliegen, switching to a private line and playing some music for the other listeners.
“Before I let you talk to the green bean, I want to know who you are first.” It’s a protective move, but he doesn’t quite trust the people in Izuku's past. And for good reason.
The kid on the other end clears his throat, “my name is Katsuki Bakugou. The green bean is Izuku Midoriya. His nickname for me is Kacchan and mine for him is Deku. Not in a bad way, but because it’s just how I spelled it once and-“ he’s getting off track. He’s nervous. “Sorry. We are- or were best friends. A long time ago, before he moved away. Um, I haven’t be able to find him in years and I always looked for him but-“
“Kacchan?” Izuku's voice is small, very small, “is it really you?”
“Yeah Deku,” he let's out a breathy sigh, “it’s me.”
…
Izuku listened in shock as his foster parent asked a variety of questions, trying to get the caller's information, making a plan to meet up, trying to get the parents to join the line.
Izuku couldn’t wait to see Kacchan again. He missed him so much, longed to see him every single day.
He shakes away the dizzy feeling in his head, he’s so excited he can’t think straight.
Katsuki hangs up after a long time.
“Hizashi?” Izuku stands from his chair, bouncing on his toes and-
“Izuku?” Hizashi's voice is distant, “Izuku? Kid?”
He dials Shouta, “sho!”
“How’s it goi-“ the raven haired hero asks before being cut off.
“Sho something’s wrong with Izuku. He’s passed out on the floor!” There is worry in the blinds voice, “I don’t know what’s wrong!”
“I’m on my way, baby.” Shouta answers. “Go ahead and call an ambulance.”
He’s running through the first aid steps as he has an intern call the emergency services.
“It’s okay kid, I got you.” He whispers to the young boy laying on the floor. “I love you Izuku. It’s going to be okay.”
