Chapter Text
Today is a very important day for Lila and Skid as they go driving on the way to Pump's house and take a couple of turns near their street. Skid was still rubbing his tired eyes since his mom woke him up at 6 in the morning to get ready for the day. Luckily, they ate some pancakes and orange juice before leaving the house. He put his skeleton mask back on and look out the window to see the houses they were passing while in the car. Lila turns to Skid, with hands still on the wheels.
"Hey, Son?" "Yeah, Mom?" Skid replied. "I'm sorry I had to wake you up early today, but I forgot to tell you that I had plans on taking Mr. Wonder out of town today to get his meds. The Pharmacy here in town was closed and Mr. Wonder really needs someone to take him. The pharmacists here are too lazy to even answer a damn phone call when someone calls them. That's why were going out of town to get meds." "Oh, like a Spooky Trip on Spooky Month?!" exclaimed Skid, with stars in his eyes, filled with excitement. "Well.....sure, like a Spooky Trip, but Susie and your friend will join us since they still need someone to watch over them. Okay?" asked Lila. That's when Skid's eyes turn from stars to more stars and was just more happy hearing that. "Pump's coming with us? YEEEAAAAHHH!"
Lila smiled at her son's joyful expression as she turns the wheels left going into the street where Pump lives and sees Pump waving his hands in the air, letting Skid grin with joy and wave back with both hands. "YAAAAYYY!" The car stops on the driveway near the house and Skid is the first one out to hug Pump tightly and both of them laughing happily and twirled around and fell in the grass. "Pump, I really missed you so much!" "I really missed you, too, Skid!" The kids laughed more when Lila towered above them and looked down on them. "Kids, you just saw each yesterday and the day before that." She said as she picked them up from the ground. "Yeah, but I still miss him after he left yesterday." "And so do I, Miss Lila." They held each others hands and twirled around some more when Susie and Mr. Wonder came out of the house ready with other belongings they need for the trip.
"Hello, Mr. Wonder, Are you ready for the trip to Philly?" Lila asked with concern for him. Mr. Wonder has been waiting to go for a while since last week on Tuesday. Having to wait awhile wasn't easy for neither of them if one of them had arthritis and watching over kids at home. If anything, Mr. Wonder was more than ready, he was ecstatic. "Oh yes, Miss Lila, I'm ready. Are you ready, too, kids?" He turned to Pump, who was still not listening and playing with Skid, and turned to Susie, who was not much happy with the trip.
Susie was supposed to do something today which was another one of her art livestreams for her viewers online, but she had to cancel it for her Grandpa's sake and since they were going out of town, Mr. Wonder told her it'll do her good to get out and have some fresh air and have a good time. "Grandpa, I still don't want to go. I could be doing other things with my day and I have to go out of town for a bunch of pills?" She said, holding her backpack of her stuff and her right hand holding Mr. Wonder's pill bag from previous prescriptions. Mr. Wonder holds Susie's left shoulder, looked down and saying, "I know you're busy being on your doohickies and kids stuff, but I really need my medicines. If I don't have my pills, I can't help around my house and take care of you and your brother Wil-." Suddenly then, Pump and Skid run up to Mr. Wonder and Susie, Skid holding something at hand.
"Hey Grandpa, Susie, look what Skid got here!" They turned to them and see a frog in his hand and the frog croaks with its eyes crossed from each other. Grandpa Wonder then smiled and pats Pump's and Skid's heads for joy. "Oh hehe, that's very wonderful, kids, you just made a new friend." Susie was feeling grossed out by the frog and was thinking how in the world did they find it. "More like made friends with a toad to me." The kids faces turned upset when hearing her say that. Skid said back ,"That's no way of speaking to Happy Fella the Second. Right buddy?" The frog croaked again and jumped out of Skid's hands and hopped away. The kids chase in pursue. "Wait, come back! I was going to show you to Mom!"
Mr. Wonder then turned his head back to continue his talk with Susie. "Please, sweetie, can you help your ole' gramps out for today?" She still looked unsure with the whole trip, but maybe she thought of some things that would've or might've helped by now. What if she was to find something inspiring for her livestream after today? Would she like it or reject it? She felt like she didn't have much of a choice when it came to her family. She just wish her parents were here to take care of Pump for them, but she just still couldn't put that on her brother either. She sighed and spoke. "Okay, grandpa, I'll join. But I'll complain either way."
Mr. Wonder smiled and brought her into a warm embrace. "I'm so happy you could understand." Then Lila joins in the conversations. "And when this is done, Susie, we could just go eat somewhere over there and then we can go home." At least there was more upsides to this dilemma. "Sure, eating doesn't sound bad either." Lila clapped her hands together and stood up straight. "Alright then, let's get going. Come on, son, let's get in the car." They start walking to the Suburban and climb into the car. Lila pauses and sees her son and his friend aren't in the car yet. "Son? Son! Where are you?" "Hi, Mom!" Lila turned to see Skid and Pump behind her, all covered in mud and water. She looked surprised!
"SON!? What happened to your clothes?!?!" They looked at their clothes and frowned at Lila's reaction. "I'm sorry, Mom, but we made friends with a frog and it got away. I was gonna show you Happy Fella the Second." She sighed and grabbed their house bag and and smiled at him. "Good thing I bring extra clothes for things like this. Hooray for Mom!" The kids repeat. "HOORAY MOM!/HOORAY, MISS LILA!" "Also how about not name a pet after the doll, okay, sweetie?" "Okay, Mom." After using the restroom in Mr. Wonder's house for clothes change, they finally got into the car, put their seatbelts on and made sure they had everything with them. Electronics, Food for the road, the bags of previous prescriptions, Pump and Skid's backpacks, Susie's backpack, and Lila's purse and Mr. Wonder's wallet.
"Are you all ready for the Philly?" "YEEEAAAAAH!!" The kids shouted. "Yes, Miss Lila," Wonder replied. "Yes, ma'am." Susie replied. "Alright, let's go!" She turned the key, shifts to Reverse, goes out and goes on the open road of the suburbs. Ready to leave the city for Philly. Not a care in the world on anyone...............
Or should they care?
