Work Text:
“Faster!” Nahida giggles, feeling the wind in her hair. She throws her feet back in her swing as the Wanderer obliges and pulls her higher, faster, bringing her above the city.
Nahida laughs in glee as the city grows smaller under her, until the buildings become little specks in the distance. Their speed has her hair blowing everywhere but she doesn’t need to bother adjusting her hairpieces, knowing that they will stay in place. Suddenly, the Wanderer shoots downwards, and Nahida shouts as she’s suddenly filled with a feeling of weightlessness that dissipates once the links on her swing start pulling her down as well.
“Wanderer!” Nahida shouts, though she’s not actually upset. The Wanderer knows this too, turning around and sticking his tongue out at her before proceeding further downwards. Her hair billows out behind her like a mane of white and she cheers at the feeling of being in the air.
The Wanderer continues downwards, forward, straight towards a tree, but snaps upwards the moment before he hits it. Nahida gasps as she nearly slams into the tree, and tugs on her swing chain a little.
“Wanderer! I have less momentum than you!” she chides, though she knows that he wouldn’t have even allowed a leaf on that tree to touch her.
“Hm, sorry, missed this week’s physics lesson, try again next week,” the Wanderer teases, charging straight upwards. The drag shoves Nahida’s hair straight down, and she cheers internally at the feeling of weightlessness.
“Are you skipping your classes?” she shouts instead, though her voice is filled with glee.
“I’m in Vahumana, dumbass!” he shouts back. “They can’t teach physics for shit!”
“You should join in on one of Kaveh’s classes!” Nahida suggests, and the Wanderer speeds up just enough for it to be noticeable. Once they’re above the trees, the Wanderer stops suddenly, and throws the chains of her swing upwards.
Nahida shouts with laughter as she soars, raising her arms and looking around at the vast world beneath her. The birds around her startle and caw as she comes to their level, and she giggles, indulging in this feeling of being a bird without needing to transform into one. The sun is warm against her skin and the sky is such a wonderful shade of blue.
The moment she begins to fall, the Wanderer is snatching her out of the sky and hugging her to his chest. He looks down at her with slight nervousness, which dissipates once he sees her expression.
“Again!” she cheers, and he drops her just far enough for him to grab onto the chains of her swing.
