Summary:

It was only a few days till prom and neither Sound nor Win have had any time to think of any ways to prompose to each other. And, hey! Perhaps it doesn't go entirely right when they figure it out for either of them, but thank god they have the best friends in the entire world to help them out!

Oh, and there is a cat.

Work Text:

Like any normal day recently, sat Sound leaning against the bed frame of his bed. His legs were laid out in front of him, on top his laptop sat, slightly overheating and warming his legs from being used for a long period of time.

Diagonal from where he sat, laid Win on the rug that was parallel from Sound’s bed. According to Win, “The floor is more comfortable when you don’t want to sleep yet! Plus it makes you more productive!” ( Ironically, it did not make Win more productive in the slightest. ) His phone hovered over his face, one wrong movement and it would come crashing down at any given time.

It was one week's time till prom, and Sound still had no idea how to ask Win to prom. They had been dating for a couple of weeks now, the club rule being ruled out and allowing them to date without hiding anything. Though with studying for hours upon hours for finals and on top of that preparing for Hot Wave, there had been no time recently for any brainstorming of ideas on how to prompose.

As Sound grew up, getting into a relationship was much harder, hence why this was his first ever one. He grew up in the acting field, where everything had a limit of how much truth there was to real relationships. Sure, he had acted alongside other people and had to date their character in the show, but it truly wasn’t the same feeling as being with Win.

Win, who made his heart beat faster every time he came near him. The way his heart beat would pound as if he had just gotten off a roller coaster at full speed with endless loops. Win, who made him want to punch that stupid, stupidly pretty smirk off his face every time he dared to insult Sound and act like it wasn’t his fault. The one who fueled his anger to an entirely other dimension. Win, who made him want to kiss him senselessly until they were both out of breath and they were connected in a way where there was no other direction to go in.

So yeah, he needed this to go perfectly. Hence why he was on google, using the most absurd website — also known as wikiHow — to figure out how to prompose to Win.

“Use cute animals for an animal-lover.”

When Win had first met Sound’s cat, he knew they were going to be stuck like glue anytime Win happened to come over, which was quite frequently.

It was only unfortunate enough for him that his favorite ( and only ) cat and his favorite ( not that he would ever admit to it ) person seemed to be getting along maybe too well for his liking. He began to think it was a bad idea of them meeting as often the small cat would take over Sound’s time with Win.

But it was fortunate that Win liked his cat, not more than him of course, but it was enough that using his cat as a promposal idea, was absolutely brilliant. Thank you wikiHow!

So there Sound sat the next day, sitting on the floor in front of his cat, tying the bow, which of course was purple, onto the collar of his cat. Next to him laid the purple lilacs, with a small piece of paper that read “Prom?” on it. Hopefully, his cat would cooperate with him just for a small period of time to hold the flower and paper in her mouth, so Win could read it and give him an answer.

Win was supposed to come over after school to hang out. He had to stay after to talk to one of his teachers, so Sound thankfully had time to rush back home and set everything up. It was only a matter of time though before Win rang the doorbell, and he was on the time crunch.

“Lotte, you just need to bite on the flower right here and just walk up to Win. That’s it! And after that, I will give you a million treats. So will Win most likely. You got it?” Sound gestured to the cat, who only stared at him before licking her paws. The guitarist took it as a sign that the cat understood him.

The doorbell rang, signaling the other boy was here. Sound took a deep breath before picking up the flower to put in Lotte’s mouth. Lucky for him, the cat took it without hesitation which allowed him to sigh in relief before he got up to walk towards the door.

The cat trotted behind him, the chimes from her collar echoing off the walls of Sound’s place. Eventually Sound made it to the door and turned around to ensure that the cat had not wandered off anywhere else. Relieved that Lotte was still behind him, with the lilac, he smiled before turning back towards the door.

With a deep breath, he opened the door to see Win standing in front of it. Yet before he could even speak out to say hello or ask the question he had been dreading to ask, Lotte took off with a sprint, hopping in between Win’s legs and dropping the lilac while at it.

Win, the oh so caring boyfriend he was, spun around to chase the cat that had just speeded out the door in a blink of an eye. The other boy, left in a daze, flickered his eyes from the doorway that once stood his hopeful prom date and the flower that was wilting on the floor. Bending down to pick up the flower with the paper, he sighed as he tucked it in his pocket.

Just in time, as he finished tucking it into his pocket, an out of breath Win appeared in front of his doorstep once again, holding a small cat that seemed to be in her own world, seemingly as if she didn’t just ruin his entire plan.

“Your cat can fucking run. No wonder you kept running away from me when we were at the beach that one time,” the bassist spoke up as he stroked his hand across Lotte’s fur. The shorter of the two could only roll his eyes as he lightly punched the other’s shoulder. “Shut the fuck up, idiot,” he replied back, slightly annoyed that his plan was destroyed, but melting at the sight of Win holding Lotte as if it was his own fur baby.

Letting Win into his place, he quickly hid the flower before following Win into his room, where school work never really was worked on and talking was a bare minimum between them.

Screw you, stupid wikiHow!

Win, personally, was not much of a romantic. His parents were not the gushy, mushy type of parents that were in love. While they were still very much in love, they just chose not to air it out in the public. The public including both Win and his siblings.

Perhaps it was due to his parents' relationship that he never had any real connection with someone until Sound came into his life.

Stupid, idiotic, and unfortunately absolutely drop dead stunning Sound Saran. It didn’t help that the boy was also SoundAbout, a youtuber Win had often watched in his free time.

So when prom came around the corner, Win wasn’t sure how to ask Sound or if he was even allowed to ask the boy to prom. Yeah, they were out to their friends that they were dating. Practically the entire school knew about them as well, the news of the two band members from the newly famous band in school dating was big news. Especially if it involved the famous actor himself.

But was Win really allowed to ask Sound out? It was really a rhetorical question, because the answer was, of course he can. He just had absolutely no idea how to ask the actor to prom. It did not help either that all of his siblings either did not attend prom, or were much younger than him, that they couldn’t provide help.

Really, there was only one other option of who he could possibly ask for help in asking Sound to prom. There was only one other boy who knew Sound and was already deep into his own relationship that he could help Win plan something out.

When he told Sound he needed to stay after school for something, he wasn’t lying about that. However he did lie in terms that he needed to talk to a teacher about something. It was close enough though to the person he was going to talk to though.

Not caring if anyone else was present in the room, Win pushed the student council door open, a loud screech from the door echoing against the metal lockers that adorned the walkway. His face scrunched up at the noise before he regained his focus towards his target.

Ah Ha!

And he was alone too. Brilliant! Win walked up to the other boy before plopping down in front of the seat. The two sat in silence for a few minutes, only the sound of a pen flowing back and forth and the flipping of papers could be heard. Alongside faint buzzing of the air conditioning could also be heard. Eventually the other boy looked up from his papers and glanced at Win.

“What are you doing here?” the boy questioned as he sat his pen down on the table. Win only groaned as he sank down into his chair. “You’re in love, right?! And you already promposed?! And you happened to know my boyfriend! Great! Now help me out!” Win whined, as he pouted after releasing all his frustrations out.

The boy in front of him could only laugh, which made Win give him a slight death glare that he quickly brushed off. “Yes, I am in love. Yes, I already promposed, you were there when it happened. And unfortunately, I have known your boyfriend for a long time. Now what do you need help with?” Tinn asked as he relaxed back into his chair on the other side of the desk.

“How do I prompose to him?” Win bluntly asked, cutting straight to the point. He had plans to meet up with Sound later at his house and was on a time crunch to figure out a plan and somehow manage to set it all up before he gets to Sound’s house. It was today or nothing.

“How about just asking him like a normal person?”

“He’s not normal! He’s a celebrity! I need to do literally anything else but ask!”

“Just ask in a way that you know he will appreciate. I might have known him for a longer period of time, but you know him more personally. You know his ins and outs. Trust your gut, you know deep down how to prompose, it just hasn’t come to you yet..”

Win let out what seemed like the fifty millionth groan since he arrived at the student council room. Screw Tinn and his way with words. How was that supposed to help him?

“You know, you are literally the worst help ever, right?” Win fired back as he pointed his finger at Tinn. Tinn only smiled as he picked up his pen again to start again on the endless stack of papers he had to fill out.

“It took me two years to have the courage to ask your bandmate out. Maybe you should have asked Tiw for advice on how to prompose. But from my experience and personally, I say do it in a way that’s special to the both of you,” the student council president vaguely replied before smiling and going back to his stack of papers.

The bassist could only moan in absolute agony, before getting out of the chair and heading towards the door with no further commentary. As he stepped one foot out the door, he heard one last comment from Tinn, “Text me what you end up doing!!” Win slammed the door harder than necessary.

“What the fuck does he mean by do something that’s special to both of us?” Win mumbled to himself as he slowly walked towards the motorbike parking lot where his ride to Sound’s house was currently present. Was he supposed to prompose in the fucking school bathroom? They had moments in there! Did that count?

No, that’s even worse than just asking.

And like a light bulb suddenly lighting up, an idea sparked in his head. His motorbike! Of course! Why didn’t he think of it sooner? If he drove home fast enough, surely there were supplies that he could decorate his motorbike with and when he got to Sound’s place, he could lead Sound out of the house and boom, promposal!

With the idea now engraved in his mind, he quickly sped up to the motorbike parking lot and hopped onto his motorbike to rush home. He had limited time to get this done and it had to be done today or else he would not have enough confidence to prepare everything. Everything had to be perfect, just like the perfectionist the actor was. Sound knew Win was quite the opposite of him in terms of neatness, and Win wanted to prove that he could be organized when it came to important things like asking the boy to prom.

After much yelling and things being thrown in all different directions, Win was able to find all the supplies necessary to decorate the bike with. Yeah, sure it was a last minute thought and it was prepared in a span of 30 minutes, but sue the boy! He had been so busy studying for finals and working at his dad’s garage that he hadn’t had time to prepare anything, let alone be able to think for a moment.

On the largest piece of paper he could find, which was fairly large, he wrote in the neatest possible handwriting he could formulate, “It Sounds like a Win to me if you said yes to going to prom with me.” Perhaps it was a bit too corny for Win’s taste, and Sound would most definitely make fun of Win for the entirety of his life, but it was far too good not to be used.

With a few more touch ups, such as drawing a small Earth and Mars in the corner next to each other to symbolize the two of them, he stepped back to look at the sign he made. “It looks good enough to me! Go get your boy,” his younger brother, Nay exclaimed as his older brother Koh just nodded in reply. Win just hugged the two of them before taking the supplies and sign with him and heading out the door to Sound’s house.

Upon arriving at his boyfriend’s house, he parked his motorbike slightly to the middle of the driveway, so when Sound opened the door he wouldn’t be able to see the motorbike first. He positioned the sign to lay against the side of the motorbike, a bouquet of flowers resting on top of the seat, which he had quickly passed by a florist shop to purchase before arriving.

Stepping back to admire his handy work, Win took his phone out to snap a picture to send to his brothers before nodding to himself and heading towards the front door. He took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. The soft echo of footsteps could be heard approaching the door, alongside the chime of the bell from the cat he all so adored alongside the owner himself.

As Sound opened the door, neither a word was said between the two of them before Lotte went sprinting out the front door as fast as lightning. Win with his reflexes, quickly ran after the small cat, who seemed to be running straight for his motorbike. Wait, his motorbike… That held the flowers and sign… Wait a secon-

MEOWW!

And there went the flowers. And the sign. And all of the work Win had just spent making it perfect, down the drain. God damn it, Lotte! Win rushed to pick up the cat, who just looked at him and purred before nuzzling down into his arms. God damn it again, Lotte! Curse being the cutest cat ever. Win could only sigh before he walked away from the now disaster back towards the front door.

And yes, Tinn did get a handful of text messages from Win when the boy got home.

The overwhelming text messages both Tinn and Gun received from the two boys was fairly way too much for either of them to handle by themselves. So of course, like any logical person would do, they showed each other what occurred and made it their ( mostly Gun, but of course Tinn agreed to his boyfriend in a heartbeat ) personal mission to fix the issue at hand. Calling a meeting with the rest of the band members, with the addition of Tiw, and minus the two idiots, the six boys sat around the BBQ grill as Gun explained the plan to them.

“Seemingly, as both of them had their plans ruined and now their egos are too damaged to ask again, we need to figure out how to solve this, and fast,” Gun exclaimed as he waved his hand around in gestures. The rest of them just nodded, as they were shoving food into their mouths and were only half listening. Tinn, being the only one listening with full clarity just smiled at the boy and nodded.

“How are we going to prompose to them though? Like how does that even work? We’re not even the ones being promposed to!” Pat exclaimed, slightly bitter by the fact that he was the only one in the band who was still single and did not have a date to prom. Gun slapped the back of his head in response.

“No duh! That’s why Tinn and I came up with a plan, but we need your help in setting it up,” Gun clapped his hands in excitement at the thought of his two best friends going to prom together. “So who’s in?” he questioned, looking around the room at all his friends. All of them just nodded in response, as Gun let out a yelp of excitement.

“Ok, so here’s the plan…”

The next morning came quickly, both Sound and Win feeling rather uneasy at the fact that both of their plans seemed to have failed, without either of the two knowing the others’ plan. The days counting down towards prom only kept approaching faster, and neither had any other ideas of what to do.

Upon waking up to the loud screech of his blaring phone alarm, Win had also woken up from an extremely vague text from Tinn telling him that Sound needs a ride to school and therefore Win was put forth in charge of picking him up. It wasn’t like he was going to say no to picking up his boyfriend, rather it was odd in terms that Sound never asked him last night when they were playing games or texted him either.

He wasn’t one to ask many questions, anyways.

Dragging himself out of the comfortable bed that provided him, and every so often, Sound, comfort every night, he got ready as fast as his body could possibly handle. It was only pure luck that Sound did not live as dreadingly far from Win, so he did not have to entirely rush his morning routine, which really only included brushing his teeth and using the Laneige Water Bank Hydro Essence.

Walking down the stairs to grab a granola bar, he stumbled into the chaos of the kitchen with his mom making coffee for both her and his dad, Nay eating toast with an excessive amount of butter, and of course Koh nowhere to be found, most likely still dead asleep from playing games with his boyfriend all night.

“How did the thing go yesterday? Did he say yes? Of course he probably did!” Nay questioned as Win passed the younger to grab a glass of water to chug down after he finished the granola bar, still in his hand. A groan left Win’s mouth as he opened the bar and took a much more aggressive bite than necessary.

“What happened yesterday? Something with that boy of yours?” Win’s mom spoke up as she finished putting the sugar into her coffee, turning to face towards the boy who was now slightly turning red. Before Win could reply, Nay spoke up for him,

“He asked Sound to prom yesterday! Of course with my help. Matchmaking skills come in handy sometimes, like that one time I helped my friends Da-”

“The plan didn’t work out. So no, your skills did not help. Now I will be picking Sound up, goodbye!”

The door slammed shut behind the now aggravated boy as the younger one and the mom just glanced at each other and shrugged in response. He would eventually tell them, and if not, thank god Gun loved the two of them so he would definitely update him on all the chaos occurring.

Win, who was now aggressively putting his helmet on his head, only grumbled to himself as he started the motorbike. Stupid cute cat that ruined the entire plan. Lotte should be thankful she was adorable as she was mischievous because frankly, Win’s entire confidence diminished as soon as the plan failed. Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be.

The entire ride to Sound’s house was filled with dread but still the excitement, which he would never admit, of seeing his boyfriend. Yeah sure, he absolutely despised his boyfriend at times and would absolutely kill to just punch his face once, but he was still his boyfriend. His cute, stupidly annoying, handsome boyfriend who he just wanted to god damn take to prom.

Arriving at Sound’s house, he spotted Sean, Sound’s younger brother, who happened to be sitting on the porch with his phone in his hand, assumingly texting someone. The sound of the motorbike revving echoed down the street, making the other boy look up and wave at Win before yelling at the top of his lungs,

“Sound! Your boyfriend is here!”

While Sound and Sean shared a variety of different characteristics such as their caring natures towards their friends, one huge difference was how Sean was much more outgoing while Sound was rather kept to himself. Ironically enough, Sound was the one who ended up being an actor out of the two of them, but in the end, everything seemed to work accordingly.

The pounding of footsteps getting louder with each step could be heard echoing against the thin walls of the house before a frantic, yet somehow still put together, Sound appeared at the front door. A confused gesture took over his face as he looked like the confused dog meme that many people often used.

On one hand, while Win had received a blunt message being told to pick the guitarist up, the guitarist himself had absolutely no clue the other boy was going to be his ride to school. So imagine his surprise when his younger brother suddenly yells that Win is here with no further context.

“What are you doing here?” Sound questioned as Win stood there, slightly dumbfounded that Sound didn’t know he was picking him up. Didn’t Sound text Tinn to tell Win? Unless…

“Not even a hello? Or a good morning to the best boyfriend to ever exist?” Win teased back as he stood against his motorcycle with one hand on the handle to steady himself. Sean, being the poor bystander of once again another couple, only smiled as he looked between the two of them before going back inside to text his newly made friend, more so crush.

Sound only rolled his eyes at the comment. “Hello. Good morning to the best idiotic boyfriend to exist,” he snarky replied as he took a few steps towards Win to pinch his cheeks. Win only grunted in response, his cheeks slightly turning red from the backhanded compliment the other boy gave him.

“No but really, what are you doing here?”

“I’m here to pick you up.”

“I see that. Why?”

“Can I not be a good boyfriend and pick you up?”

“You can. Still doesn’t answer the question.”

Win could only groan as he realized the conversation was going nowhere. Curse Sound and always questioning everything possible. Why couldn’t the other boy just agree so Win could find out what trick Tinn, and knowing that, what Gun had up his sleeve. Unfortunately for him, he was going to have to tell the other boy before figuring it out on his own.

“Tinn texted me telling me to pick you up, but you didn’t text me or ask me last night. So I still followed along because I want to know what plan that annoying idiot has up his sleeve. And when I mean that idiot, I mean the other idiot that he just always agrees to,” the bassist rambled on as he sighed in defeat.

It was only a matter of seconds before the boy in front of him bursted out laughing. The way his smile could almost reach the corner of his eyes, his eyes closed in small crescent shaped moons, cheeks slightly poking out, highlighting his dimples and in turn making his face look more boba than usual. Win could see the boy’s laugh from the surface of Mars.

Sound should be so thankful he was so cute, or Win would have absolutely punched him for laughing at his explanation.

“So basically you aren’t actually a good boyfriend and only came in spite of going along with a plan so you could figure out what the plan is. But the reality is that you are probably helping the plan flow according to how they want it to be and you are definitely wasting more time by trying to explain,” Sound responded as a smug look appeared on his face.

“I am an extremely good boyfriend! And… Oh, screw you! Get on the bike,” Win started out before eventually giving up with a pout and turning around to get the spare helmet – that was basically Sound’s from the amount of times he had used it – from underneath the seat.

The other boy only laughed at the incoherent speech before speeding inside the house to grab his bag and with a goodbye to his siblings, he locked the door behind him. Like any other time he would ride behind Win on his motorbike, Win put the helmet on his head, Sound learning not to fight the other on it after a while. And off the two of them went, of course not before Win complained that Sound wasn’t holding on tight enough and the boy in retaliation squeezed him tighter, making the other boy grunt in response.

Typical things.

Upon arriving at school, on any typical day there would be staring and occasional comments because of course when you are a famous actor or a part of the hottest band at school, it is bound to happen. But the comments on this specific day seemed to be heightened to an extremely higher level. Win was extremely suspicious now, slightly scared as knowing Gun for years, the boy could be absolutely unpredictable at times.

“Should we pretend that we know exactly why more people are staring at us or just turn around and not go to school?” a voice faintly echoed against Win’s ear as they drove past the various questioning students and into the motorbike parking lot. The boy driving only shrugged, but the answer was made clear as he pulled into the parking lot anyways and turned off the bike.

Sound got off the bike first, using Win’s shoulders to help swing his leg over to the other side before making a soft thump against the road. The bassist quickly followed along as the two took off the helmets for Win to secure them back underneath the seat of the bike.

“Ready to see whatever catastrophe Gun has created?” Win asked as he passed Sound his bag and put his palm face up. In return Sound intertwined their hands and squeezed it in reinsurance. “Absolutely not, but at least I can attempt to sacrifice you if something goes wrong,” Sound replied back, earning him a punch from Win’s other hand that was currently not holding his.

“You wish. You can’t even play sports, how are you going to manage to sacrifice me?”

“You would sacrifice yourself for me of course without me asking.”

“In your dreams! It should be the other way around.”

“No, you!” “No, you!”

The ongoing bickering lasted for the duration of the walk, the two being able to block out the comments from the other students around them, until arriving at the music room. On a usual occurrence, there was nothing remarkably different about it. The sign that read Music Club remained in the same place, some of the excess chairs were placed in different places, but most often it was from when they had to stack them after using them when they hosted small performances in the club room.

The thing that threw the two of them off was that the lights were off inside the music club room itself. Of course, on weekends and at night, the lights were turned off as were the rest of the lights throughout the entire school. But throughout the school day, usually the lights remained on as they were connected to the power grid that ran throughout the school.

So yeah. Lights being off was the first clue that either the entire school was out of power ( it was not ) or they were planning something.

“What if we just don’t go to the music club room and go straight to class? They can’t wait out here forever!” Win whispered, earning him an eye roll from Sound. And people said he was the dramatic one out of the two of them. “Let’s just get this done and over with, idiot. It’s not like they are going to come out with knives and try to kill us,” Sound whispered back, getting back a death stare that made him wish that was actually the circumstance.

With a squeeze to Win’s hand, the two of them entered the club room, pushing back the white curtain that separated the entrance off to the public. First, it was dark. Then, there was light. But the light came in the form of a projector. And suddenly there was music, and oh.

The projector showcased a collection of various moments from the two of them. Videos that Win is absolutely certain he has never shown anyone, unless… Oh definitely one of his brothers had managed to take his phone and send them. He was going to absolutely demolish them when he got home.

But regardless, the videos were them. The pictures on screen were there. Even with the lingering confusion between the two of them, they couldn’t help but smile at the screen. Even from the few weeks of dating, the videos and pictures seemed to capture them perfectly. From videos of them near the start of when they first met to videos that sneakily captured them, it was them.

Eventually, the video came to an end and at once the lights flickered on, brightening the room from just a small amount of light to an enormous amount of light. The two had to blink to fully account for what just occurred, and suddenly their vision became clear where in front of them stood their friends holding up letters that spelled, “PROM?”

The sound of a confetti cannon startled the two of them as a figure appeared behind the confetti and spoke at once,

“So after finding out that both of your plans to ask each other to prom drastically failed and of course, me knowing the two of you, that neither of you would have the courage to do it again, I had to put things in my hands! And… Ta Da! Happy promposal!”

“Are you seriously promposing to Win from me but also Win to me?” Sound spoke up after a moment of trying to wrap his head around the situation at hand. At first he was confused at what the hell was occurring, but eventually the confusion turned into astonishment. It was quite a surprise that Gun went out of his way to do this for the two of them.

“Well, yeah. That’s the basic concept! I mean of course I want to see my best friend happy and going to prom with someone he found and you too are also now one of my best friends and I want you happy too! So…” Gun cheerfully replied back, purposely extending the last question in hopes that they would get the gesture of what he was asking.

“Are you guys going to go to prom together or what?” Por impatiently asked, his excitement getting to the best of him as he wanted to see if this plan would actually work. A hand on his shoulder slightly managed to calm him down as he turned back to see Tiw standing behind him.

“So, wanna go to prom together?”

“Only if you don’t step on my feet while we're dancing.”

And suddenly the entire room bursted into cheers as the two of them embraced each other in a tight hug. Win tucked his head into the crook of Sound’s neck as Sound’s hand cradled through the soft locks of his hair. The warm hug feeling like a blanket on a cold, winter morning; the feeling of finally coming home.

The two were officially prom dates.

On the opposite side of the room, where Win and Sound’s bags were put down as they entered the room, the sound of a struggle could be heard. Only a few moments later the sound of Win’s purple backpack being unzipped could be heard and…

How the heck did the cat get in there?
