Maybe It's Just My Luck

Summary:

Maybe he could hold his breath for enough time to get to the island the portal dropped him in, at least. He could see it not that far away. Maybe this time the portal would actually be there. Unlikely, but, hey, hope is a ninja’s greatest weapon.

Work Text:

Maybe he shouldn’t have gone searching in that Kraang base. Maybe he shouldn’t have tried to flee to an island full of bang-rocks trees.

He probably shouldn’t have gone through the portal that led him to this nightmarish dimension in the first place.

However, Michelangelo did all of those things. He went to the Kraang base. He fled to the bang rocks. And he definitely went through the portal. He made all those stupid decisions that led him to the situation he was in right now.

Mikey could feel his eyes get wet as he tried desperately to hold his breath. Praying once more that his brother would come after him. That they would rescue him from this helpless situation. They wouldn’t, of course. Mikey had already come to that conclusion a long time ago.

Maybe he could hold his breath for enough time to get to the island the portal dropped him in, at least. He could see it not that far away. Maybe this time the portal would actually be there. Unlikely, but, hey , hope is a ninja’s greatest weapon.

Except you’re not a ninja. You haven’t been one for a long time .

Mikey slammed his hand on the ground to keep himself from crying out loud and breathing. The explosion from when he landed had already destroyed the breathing machine Donnie had made, he couldn’t risk it by breathing.

Well done you imbecile! Donnie went through the work of making one specially for your dumbass and you went and destroyed it!

It wasn’t his fault! It wasn’t! He didn’t-

Except it was ! His dumbass decisions were what led him to the situation he was in! His idiotic nonsensical decisions! No wonders his brothers never came after him!

No, no. He shouldn’t be thinking like that. His brothers loved him. Leo was such a kind big brother, Raph was his best friend in crime and Donnie loved to brainstorm with him ever since they were little.

And yet, you’ve been here alone for over a year. And yet, you’ve had to endure everything alone.

And yet, you’re going to die alone.

No! Mikey wasn’t gonna die, was he? This wasn’t the end. He needed to- he needed to-

To what? He couldn’t save Leatherhead and his family didn’t even bother to come after him. What purpose did he have? What- what-

What good was it that he was ever even born?

And yet, and yet, and yet, and yet he didn’t want to die! Mikey wanted to live!

Tears fell from his eyes, he was scared. He was only seventeen! He didn’t want to die!

The portal has to be there, right?

He could hold his breath for time enough, he was sure.

Mikey slowly got up. He had to try. He had to do something . He wasn’t going to sit still and die. Moving was difficult, but Dimension X’s physics helped him to jump from one island to the other.

Almost there. Don’t screw it up. Don’t screw it up. Don’t screw it up.

His eyesight was already beginning to become blurry and his throat was burning so much that all he wanted was to take a deep gasp of air. But that wouldn’t happen, Mikey might not know about the specifics, but he knew that the air in this hell wasn’t breathable.

Maybe this is hell. Maybe I died when I tried to use the stupid portal and this is my punishment .

He finally set his food on the island he landed after entering the portal. The horrible reminder that his brothers hadn’t come for him scarred on the rock he used to mark days during the first months.

And there was no portal. Mikey was looking at the same plain island as always.

He let himself fall on the ground, the tears overflowing his vision. He couldn’t concentrate on the fact that he was going to die . He was going to die alone in Dimension X.

What did he ever do to deserve this? He was a good son, a good brother and he even went out of his way to protect New York! He didn’t do anything to deserve this! He didn’t do anything!

You always pushed everyone’s buttons way more than you should, especially Raph’s. You’ve always made missions more difficult by fucking everything up. You never concentrated when Master Splinter tried to teach you something.

No no no no no no no no!

He had just tried to make everyone loosen up a little! He never destroyed their plans on purpose! He always tried to learn, he didn’t mean to get distracted!

Besides, those were minor stuff! His family wouldn’t leave him to face this alone, right? They wouldn’t!

And yet they did.

They didn’t! They’ didn’t!

Mikey looked at the horrible purple sky, he was beginning to hear a ring in his ears. It was getting harder and harder to keep himself awake, but he couldn’t fall asleep. If he did, he was sure he’d never wake up again.

Mikey felt like he was a child again. He wanted Donnie to come and take him to his lab to show him a new design, hug him and give him some discarded metal pieces to play with. He wanted Raph to distract him by pretending to lose in a videogame and pretending to get mad at it. He wanted Leo to hug him through his crying and sleep in his room with him. He wanted his dad to take him in his arms and promise it would all be alright.

He was only seventeen! He was only seventeen and he didn’t want to die!

Please, please, please, please, come save me.

His heartbeat was so slow that he could barely even feel it when concentrating. His throat was burning so much. He couldn’t see anything. His ears were ringing. His tears were making it harder and harder to not take a deep breath of Dimension X’s toxic atmosphere.

Mikey couldn’t even hold onto his Kraang-skull mask, he didn’t even remember taking it off in the first place.

Was that it? Was he just going to die like that?

He felt himself relax, his eyes were closing. No matter how much he tried, there was nothing he could do. Donnie would probably be able to think of something, so would Leo and Raph, but nothing came to Mikey’s mind.

Mikey’s eyes closed slowly as he finally lost the battle against the inevitable loss of consciousness.

Notes:

Extra bit of information I had in mind when writing this but didn't put in: Leo, Donnie and Raph got there only a bit after this. Almost in time, but ultimately to late to save him or to even say goodbye.

Hope this piece of angst was satisfatory for you. I was inspired by a tiktok of the creator ParuPParu.
Let me know in the comments how this made you feel and if you liked it, it's my first time writing this type of angst, so constructive criticism is greatly apreciated.
