Chapter Text
The day starts out muggy, which should have been the first clue.
The town was warm and humid where it should have been crisp and biting. It was deep into the winter season. The air smelt of storms and ocean. Dizzyingly, there seemed to be a vast blue tint in the fog that got clearer the more the viewer concentrated, however, it was a sleepy city full of sleepy people, and so the blue went unnoticed or the people unconcerned.
Gentle steps across the concrete were drowned out in the wind rush of cars, and the mumble of passing workers constant in the background. The air seemed to thicken to molasses with each step dragging out to the next.
It was only a split second of light, a flash edging into peripheral vision, then a city one less gone unnoticed.
Weeks later an apartment found empty of its tenant will be blocked in yellow tape and flashing lights. A coffee shop half way across town is investigated and found not guilty, thus with another missing persons case unsolved.
