Work Text:

It's Monday. You are up and start getting ready for school, but you find yourself reminiscing to back when you were only twelve.

Your parents didn't really care where you went, as long as you attend school and return home before midnight.

You had fought with your dad so you left home for some fresh air, and that's when you met them. Their crystal clear eyes, their perfect and melodic voice... you couldn't help but become best friends. Singing partners, even. You both have a lot in common.

Suddenly, your alarm sounds. If you don't get going, you'll be late to class.

After your first class, you see your partner and start talking to them. They looked serious, with a stern look on their face, but you knew better than that. Over the years, you had learned to flawlessly read their expressions. Today, they were happy to see you.

Your good friend interrupts you two, reminding you that there were only two minutes until class started. You and your partner part ways, and you smile.

- - -

The week passes by rather quickly, because all you did was go to school and go to singing practice with your partner. Of course, you couldn't forget seeing their cheerful expression everyday. They were truly the sunshine in your life. Between practices, you would also go to your local cafés or meet up with other friends.

It was a rather normal week, similar to last week, you suppose.

It's Monday again. You repeat your morning routine faster this time, your partner would scold you if you arrived late. You rush downstairs to grab your breakfast and lunch. Your sister bought a new type of bread recently, so you decide to try it for breakfast. It's sweet, just like your partner.

You smile. It seems that perhaps they were a big part of your life.

- - -

Once again, after class, you head towards your partner's class, planning to greet them, but it turns out they didn't even come to school today, which is weird.

...They don't show up for the rest of the day.

- - -

After school, you rush to your partner's house, where their father greets you with the same cold look. He had never been close with his son, but they were trying to fix things. Unfortunately, he didn't really like you.

Today you could tell the man had been crying, but you try to ignore it, instead asking where your partner was. Their father's expression darkened, and he explained how they had unknowingly run away from home last night. You know he's lying, because you could read people like a book.

However, your partner did seem slightly off recently.

You said goodbye to their father and went home before trying to figure out what had happened.

Soon, while you were laying in bed, you came to your senses.

They didn't run away from home, in fact, they did much more.

They had run away from life entirely.

- - -

The next day, you stayed home and laid in bed doing nothing. Your sister was smart, she figured things out too. She even bought you your favourite food, but you didn't have an appetite.

Your partner looked so happy, how could you not notice?

Your face is littered with dried tears, because you didn't even have the energy to wipe them.

Your friends came and comforted you, though you completely ignored them despite their soft and gentle pleas.

A few days passed. You occasionally get up to eat so you don't starve yourself. You lost your voice from all the constant crying and sobbing, but it's not that bad. At least people won't stuff your face with annoying and pointless questions.

You find yourself wanting to join your partner, but you're too much of a coward and they wouldn't want that for you, so all you can do now is keep on living,

You know that this event will haunt you forever, but you also know that eventually, it'll stop hurting.

Eventually, things will get better.

Eventually, you'll feel happiness again.

You just don't know when.

Notes:

this is depressing um.
