Work Text:

“You know, Koga-san, I’m really fucking angry right now.”

After her relatively short visit to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, Aya’s first thought was to storm out of the place and immediately talk to Mitsuki. She had no time to sort her emotions out, even with Chizuru snapping her out of her frustration. Her makeup was all over the place, her clothes were disheveled and her quick breathing while running was beginning to make her tired.

Not seeking answers from Mitsuki, though, was the last thing she’d ever look for.

Eventually, the gyaru arrived at the record shop, of which the way was engraved in her mind like the back of her palm, and entered Mitsuki’s room unannounced. She was stuttering and panting through her words, but she still had the energy left to form a coherent sentence.

“Oosawa-san, I-”

“Don’t you even dare say some bullshit excuse. I really wanted to go to the concert, but it wouldn’t be the same without you!”

Mitsuki froze.

“Listen, I’m really sorry about this, I wanted to go with you too, but…”

“But? If you really wished to go with me, you wouldn’t have ditched me.”

Mitsuki got closer to Aya, and held her hand. She noticed that it was cold and shaky, so she cupped it tightly with both hands, and made her sit next to her on her bed. She noticed that Aya was not in her best state, so she hesitated to say what she had in her mind for a bit, and went away for a bit to grab her a glass of water. When Mitsuki returned, it took her a while to even let out a sound as she was closing her bedroom door.

“Hey… I’m aware that I made the situation uncomfortable for you. I noticed that Chizuru and Mao seemed a bit distant from you, and I blamed myself because of it. I thought that giving the concert ticket to Chizuru in order for you guys to make up would be a good idea but… heh. Seems like it didn’t work like I thought.”

“Koga-san…”

“It was stupid of me, wasn’t it?”

Mitsuki had an expression Aya was familiar with. She had seen it when Mitsuki saved her that one time at school. When she played a Radiohead song at the venue for her. It dawned on her that it was just like last time, with unnecessary arguments and misunderstandings. Setting her previous feelings aside, she wanted to listen to what her crush friend had to say.

“It wasn’t stupid. I might have been the one that was stupid, haha. I didn’t even let you say your side of things, and… I’m sorry, too.”

“Aya, oh my god…”

Suddenly, Mitsuki let out the loudest laugh Aya has ever heard from her. It was a bit unlike her laugh at school, or at the record shop… this was something more unusual, yet so unique to Mitsuki.

Aya drank the whole cup at once, and couldn’t even look at the other’s expression due to embarrassment creeping up on her face. Every time she stole a glance, though, Mitsuki was looking at her as if she saw a new super deluxe edition record of Guns N’ Roses. This was more of a reason for Aya to try to keep herself composed, albeit failing miserably. Wait, did she just call her Aya? She couldn’t think much about it since Mitsuki continued talking.

“I did all of this because I care about you… I want to know you more, sure, but I also didn’t want to destroy what you have with your friends. It would have been too immature of me to strip you of that.”

“Koga-san, this is so unfair…”

“What?”

“You’re out here trying to act out on things all on your own, without even telling me. I just want you to answer this one question.”

“Do you trust me, Mitsuki?”

Mitsuki’s eyes widened at the question.

“...I do.”

“Then please, talk to me more. Don’t be afraid to be honest with me. If there’s something bothering you, I’m here to lend you an ear. Even if you’re far away, a phone call can solve it. Just… I want to be here for you.”

This time, Aya reached out to hold Mitsuki’s hand.

“Your hand got warmer.” Mitsuki said as she linked her fingers with Aya’s.

Aya hesitated a little at first, despite being the one that initiated the contact, but she slowly returned the gesture.

Several minutes passed without either of the girls saying a word, but they preferred it this way. Both of them plopped down on the bed and got lost while looking at each other for a while. In the background, a mellow guitar tune with sweet feminine vocals was echoing across the room, accompanying the comfortable silence the duo shared.

The world may have stopped in their minds, but their heartbeat synchronized to the rhythm of their song.

Notes:
