Work Text:
Maedhros looks for two Sindar princes in the forest. He finds one.
He takes in Eluréd, and raises him, and gives him a new name, to protect him: Erestor, lonely brother, for his twin is lost.
---
Elurín is found by someone else, and brought to Círdan, who names him Ereinion, scion of kings, for with his brother gone, he is Dior's heir.
Erestor grows up among Fëanorians. His father (no, foster-father, Maedhros is very insistent on that point) loves him dearly, but there is always a grief in his eyes, and one day he tells Erestor of Doriath. Erestor screams, and weeps, and rages... and when he is done, he embraces Maedhros and calls him Atar.
---
Ereinion is crowned young, far younger than any Elf would be, but older than his father was when he took the throne of Doriath. He is now Gil-Galad, High King of the Noldor east of the Sea.
Erestor's father tells him to stay behind when they march to Sirion, and returns with two dark-haired children, their faces far too familiar.
---
When the Fëanorians attack his sister's city, Ereinion is too late. Elwing is gone, as are his nephews. He demands their return of the remaining Fëanorians. No answer comes.
Many years later, Maedhros and Maglor send Elrond and Elros to Gil-Galad, and Erestor follows.
---
Ereinion sees his nephews for the first time, and behind them a face as familiar as his own, for it is his own, his mirror image, his lost twin returned.
