Jim was on the bridge, bored.
The Enterprise is on its way to a planet near the Beta Quadrant, but they were far from there, about five Earth days before they reached the planet.
Kirk watched Sulu and Chekov, they were talking quietly to each other, apparently they were bored too.
Spock was apparently the only one not bored, because he was the only one working.
Soon Spock left his seat and walked over to Kirk.
- Captain, I accidentally cut my finger while working, could you go to the infirmary for a moment? It will be very quick, not least because it wasn't a very deep cut, but if the wound is left open it can cause an infection because of the bacteria and...
- Alright Mr Spock, I don't think this is necessary.- Kirk said, and Spock's expression for a moment looked astonished, but then he returned to his normal expression.
Kirk took Spock's injured hand. His index finger sported a small cut with green blood oozing from it.
Then, to Spock's surprise, Kirk kissed the small bruise.
Spock's eyes widened in surprise. The kiss was brief, but it was enough for Spock to sigh. Kirk smiled at that, not knowing why Spock had sighed or why Sulu was looking at them with wide eyes and whispering something to Chekov.
Chekov's eyes widened and he looked at Spock and Kirk.
Kirk didn't understand but Spock looked stunned.
He knew Spock didn't like physical contact, but he didn't think a kiss on his finger would make him so...upset?
- My mother used to say that a kiss on the wound would heal it.- Kirk said, smiling. He waited for Spock to explain how illogical it was, but the explanation never came, there was only a Vulcan with slightly green cheeks.
Spock was... blushing?
- Well, I'll go to sickbay.- Said Spock in a whisper, apparently he was... ashamed because what happened?
Kirk didn't care so much for this until a few minutes after Spock left the bridge, McCoy called out to him.
- Jim, could you please come to sickbay?- Asked McCoy, but Jim knew it was an order.
- Sulu, take the command.- Said Kirk and went to sickbay.
When he arrived at the sickbay, Kirk saw McCoy and M'Benga standing there, talking to each other. They stopped talking when Kirk entered the sickbay.
- Jim, we have to talk.- Bones said, his expression serious.
Kirk sat in a chair and watched M'Benga and McCoy exchange stunned looks.
- What happened?- Asked Jim, worried.
- You... You touched Spock's hands, right?- Asked Bones, even knowing the answer.
Kirk frowned, not understanding.
- Yes, why?- Asked Jim.
M'Benga looked at Kirk and then at Bones, then they both looked at Kirk.
- For vulcans, touching each other's hands means... means the same as sex for us.- M'Benga said, watching Kirk expression.
Kirk's expression went from worried to terrified and surprised.
Kirk got up and started walking back and forth.
Many thoughts raced through Jim's head.
"Does he think I want to have sex with him and that's why he freaked out?"
"Or does he think it was a bad joke?"
"Or maybe he likes me and it freaked him out when I kissed him?"
"Did I turn him on?!?"
"Would he masturbate thinking about me?"
"Is he masturbating thinking about me?"
"Why do I want this to be true so badly?!?"
- Jim, calm down and sit here again, please.- Bones asked, touching Kirk's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
Kirk sat back down, and looked at the floor, then at M'Benga and McCoy.
- I have a question.- Said Jim.
- You can ask.- Said M'Benga.
- If someone were to kiss a Vulcan's hand, would that mean... blowjob?- Asked Jim.
McCoy and M'Benga looked to each other.
- Well, kind of, but you only kissed his hand, so it wouldn't exactly be a blowjob.- Answered M'Benga, evenly.
- I didn't say that I kissed his hand.- Jim got defensive.
Bones laughed.
- But you kissed his hand.- Affirmed McCoy.
- Yes I did.
Kirk raised and looked at McCoy and M'Benga.
Bones walked over to Kirk and put a hand on his shoulder.
- You can stay here on sickbay while I talk to Spock for you.- Offered Bones, trying to calm down Jim.
- I think I should do this, explain myself and apologize.- Said Jim and left the sickbay.
Kirk made his way to Spock's quarters quickly, in a hurry but not wanting to get there.
Jim liked Spock and wanted to have a romantic relationship with him, but didn't want it to go that way, with Jim basically coming up and "giving" Spock a blowjob just because he got hurt.
Jim felt bad for doing it, he would never have done it like that if he'd known the meaning.
Perhaps Jim would do this when Spock and Kirk were dating, and when they were alone, Jim would take Spock's hand and suck his fingers, one by one.
Jim pushed the thought away, knowing that after what he'd done, it was likely never going to happen.
He stood in front of the door to Spock's quarters and knocked.
Spock opened the door, he looked surprised to see Jim there.
- Jim, what are you doing here? Do you need me for something?- Asked Spock.
- I would like to talk to you. Can I come in, Spock?- Said Jim, embarrassed.
Spock moved away from the door, letting Kirk inside.
Kirk walked in and immediately noticed the change in temperature.
Kirk examined Spock's quarters, everything in order except the bed. The sheets were in disarray, apparently Spock was sleeping.
- You were sleeping?- Asked Kirk.
- No Captain.- Answered Spock.
Jim waited for Spock to say what he was doing, but he didn't.
- I want to apologize for what happened, I didn't know what that means for vulcans.- Said Jim, worried.
Spock said nothing, just nodded.
Kirk studied Spock, he looked the same as ever, as if nothing had happened.
Kirk waited for an answer, which never came.
- Damn it, Spock! Say something!- Said Jim, irritated.
- I forgive you Captain, now, please, do you want to leave my quarters?- Said Spock.
Jim looked at Spock, not believing what was happening.
- Spock, for God's sake, did what I did affect you in any way that you don't want to tell me?- Asked Jim, worried and angry.
- Jim, it's okay, you didn't know what you were doing.- Said Spock, without showing an emotion as usual.
Jim studied Spock and realized what he had done.
- Did I imply that... That I wanted to be your boyfriend?- Asked Kirk.
Spock looked Jim in the eyes, then looked away. Kirk noticed what Spock was feeling.
Shame.
Spock was ashamed to think that Jim wanted to have a relationship with him.
- It's illogical, I know, but I'm not used to being touched in my hands, and you, well, you touching my hands is... logical.- Said Spock, blushing.
Jim's eyes widened in surprise, but he smiled.
- So, the two of us being in love with each other is logical?- Kirk asked, approaching Spock slowly.
- If you agree, yes.- Whispered Spock.
Jim walked over to Spock and put his hand on his waist, then Kirk took Spock's hand.
Jim remembered a gesture he had seen Spock's parents make, remembered that this was the vulcan kiss.
Jim mimicked the gesture. Spock's cheeks turned green.
Spock put his hand on Kirks waist and kissed him for a human kiss.
The kiss was passionate, simple and quick, but Kirk was loving every second of the kiss.
Jim broke the kiss for air, panting.
Kirk was smiling. Spock looked at him in love, with a small smile on his face.
- Does that mean it's okay?- Asked Jim, worried but happy.
- Yes, everything it's okay now.- Affirmed Spock and kissed Jim, which he reciprocated almost immediately.
The kiss was long, passionate and full of tenderness. Kirk felt he could stay on those lips forever.
Spock was the one who broke the kiss. Kirk didn't understand why Spock had broken the kiss.
- We have work to do, don't we?- Said Spock.
Kirk didn't want to, but he had to agree with Spock. They have work to do.
Kirk kissed Spock on the lips, a short kiss but no less passionate.
They broke the kiss and left Spock's quarters.
They returned to the bridge and went back to work. Kirk sometimes looked over at Spock, who didn't seem to notice or was busy working (even though they had nothing to do).
Sulu and Chekov sometimes looked over at Kirk and Spock, Kirk thought Sulu knew the Vulcan meaning of touching hands and talked to Chekov about it.
Kirk knew McCoy would ask later what happened.
He was looking forward to seeing the doctor's reaction to hearing what happened.
