Work Text:

Annie had always loved school, even as a young girl she had always strived to do her best (as well as be the best) at everything that was taught in class. After the incident, as she called it in her head, that had involuntarily cut her off from her family she thought maybe that her opinion would change. That perhaps school was actually her downfall. But since enrolling at Greendale Community College she realized that not only had her love not dwindled but in fact had increased. Sure, Greendale had it’s moments where she couldn’t help but wonder how this dumpster fire of a school could even be open with all of the issues that had arose just in her two years in attendance. But she loved it. It was her dumpster fire, it was her home and where her found family was.

That being said, she had to admit and only admit to herself that this one class, she couldn’t find anything to be excited about. It was worse than Ladders or even Learning! She couldn’t help but glance at the clock on her phone every few moments in hopes that she was in fact still alive and not dead from boredom.

Annie slumped in her seat, leaning her head back in frustration before returning her attention to the front of the room. In front of her stood a man that was probably in his sixties wearing suspenders and a bow tie. He was a living and breathing version of Carl Fredrickson from the movie Up. She liked her professor, that wasn’t the problem, the problem was that she was going to die of boredom if she continued to sit there and literally watch paint dry.

Even her professor looked like he was about to collapse onto the floor out of sheer boredom. She couldn’t even use her precious purple pens to write any notes, because lo and behold there weren’t any notes to be taken. Her mind began to wander and like most days it wandered to the leader of her found family.

Jeff freaking Winger. With his stupid crooked smirk, gorgeous eyes that resembled the bright blue seas you could only read about. And of course the stupid head had to be a freaking giant who towered over her. She would often dream about him using his height to his advantage by pinning her against the wall to steal a kiss that would likely never come to fruition.

Her mind snapped back to reality at that thought, she shook her head and sighed. She wondered if he would even take this kind of bullshit class, she gathers that he would considering this was the exact type of class that resembled his “Conspiracy Theory” class he had forged not so long ago. Annie smiled despite herself at the memory of that whole ordeal. She knows better by now to not indulge herself in the sneaking off to hold hands and play detective with a man 12 years her senior. But she couldn’t help it.

It was positively thrilling and she wasn’t the only one who seemingly enjoyed it. Jeff seemed just as eager as she was during their little escapades as partners in crime. He may never explicitly say so, but he also didn’t have to. She could see the look on his face of the aftermath of their impromptu ‘shoot out’ in study room F; with him staring breathlessly at her and a wickedly handsome smile on his face.

“Who knew you could go off script like that?” He had said, she shrugged meekly, he nudged her shoulder with his before exhaling and rising off the floor. Jeff wiped his hand against his jeans before offering his hand to her with another award winning smile, “Milady?”

Later, when she and Jeff had met up with their fellow study group members in the blanket fort they sat practically pressed against each other. Not caring in the moment what the others thought, at least she hadn’t, she couldn’t speak for Jeff in that moment. But when the blanket fort had begun to collapse forcing Jeff to move closer to her, she had instinctually looked at him, and he at her. She had sworn that he had glanced at her lips in that moment and was contemplating kissing her, she knew she was doing the same of kissing him.

She wasn’t a moron, she knew it was probably a mistake to have a crush on Jeff but his natural allure was pulling her close like a magnet to metal. She was going to get burned but truthfully she didn’t care if that meant that Jeff would be looking at her like she hung the stars and the moon. Men like Jeff were never going to see her as anything but a friend and she was okay with that.

Mostly.
