Work Text:

Cale had never been a fan of the feeling of raw dough sticking to his hands, he was even less of a fan of having to deal with it when it had already dried, but the kids wanted cookies and between the flour and the background chatter coming to his ears he could almost ignore the feeling altogether.

As his hands began to take on an automatic rhythm, his mind began to wander to different topics, random things, things he needed to take care of, little flashing memories of things that had happened that day, like watching Maes fall backwards in the snow.

Fall-half-winter was definitely his favorite time of year, he didn't have to worry about sweating, most annoying bugs were gone, he was barely hot and could sleep all day.

—Cale, you're done with the dough.

When he focused his eyes he realized that indeed Glutton was right, “Thank you.”

Now all he had to do was roll it out, cut circles and bake... Or was it let it rest, roll it out, cut and bake? Well, the former, let it be what it had to be.

“This one looks like a cat!”

That was a very, very generous description of the cookie, at least to the Henituse who couldn't see any shape to it no matter how hard he tried.

The heat rose to his ears, though he tried hard not to let his face show the embarrassment he felt.

It had been a long time since he had last baked! And it had been in the modern world!

“Youngest, this one looks just like you!”

“Noona, nya, this one looks like a lemon!”

Well, at least they had liked it, now all he needed was the wolves' reaction. (He also had to send some to the rest of the kids, Mary was sure to be happy even if her cookies weren't shaped like circles).
