"It was all so easy," Ben said as he sat in what used to be Laurie's chair. "All these years besides her, and she never suspected a thing."
Juette briefly looked up from where he was scrubbing the floor — only to catch that strange gleam that only appeared in Ben's eyes when he talked about the blood he'd spilled. "It does sound easy," he said quietly. Too easy, perhaps, he didn't say.
"And Carla, too. Talk about predicting the future." He leaned back on the chair, getting comfortable. "It should be Kate's turn soon. Tomorrow, even."
- "Tomorrow? Isn't that— too soon?"
- "She trusts me."
Juette shrugged. He wasn't repulsed by Ben's... unusual hobbies, but he wasn't particularly interested in partaking in them either. Helping his partner with clean-ups suited him just fine.
"You don't seem convinced," Ben said.
- "I'm just worried something will go wrong."
Ben left the chair then, kneeling besides Juette. "I'll be careful. I'll lure her in with our last show."
- "She never cared about your show."
- "Trust me," Ben said, brushing a strand of Juette's hair away from his face.
- "Alright," Juette conceded. He wasn't the expert here, anyway. Ben had been doing this for long enough to know what he was talking about, and he'd been watching Kate for a while now.
Ben smiled and got back up. "Done soon?"
- "The stain won't come out of the carpet."
- "Leave it. It'll be our little reminder."
Our. Juette felt a warmth in his chest that only Ben had ever been able to bring. He got up too, immediately reaching for his partner's hand.
"Now, how about a drink for your birthday?" asked Ben.
- "That would be nice," Juette replied.
Ben leaned in for a kiss. "Drinks it is, then," he said before he and Juette left the JAB radio station together for the last time.
