They're having a Christmas Eve trip.
Among of many of Yuuichirou's wonderful ideas, going on a trip for lovely holidays on Christmas was not something Mikaela desired very much.
Call him an old-fashioned young man or old man at the age of twenty years old, but dealing with the worst weather in Japan for eight hours on the road, wasn't something that would be the most attractive ideas of the time and yes, he tried to persuade Yuu in many ways (yeah, like “many”); however the pleading look in the man with emerald eyes two days ago finally convinced him.
And here they're...
The blond fixed his gaze on the snowy landscape through the rented car that Yuu was driving excitedly like when you give a child a new toy that he longs for a lot of time.
Okay, Mika admitted that this trip it wasn't that bad idea while he was catching a glimpse of Yuu's joyness, that inevitably infected him with happiness. A fact difficult to deny after catch his love-struck smile coming from the reflection of the mirror's car.
— Mika, I think we're lost....
Forget it, not everything could be perfect.
— Weren't you following the GPS direction?
— Yes, but this was supposed to be the shortest route and now the GPS is showing me an alternative route, I don't know why...
— Let me help you.
The blond approached the small device with a semblance mixed with frustration and resignation.
— That's why I hate that things Mika, we were better using compasses like in the war and without complications.
— Without complications? Yuu-chan, do you remember how many times we got lost all over Japan?
The blond also didn't understand too much about technology and after five years with the end of the war, it was still difficult for him to adapt to everything they recovered in high technology or smart devices.
— The new route marks 7 hours, and we have been driving for 5 hours. Apparently the first route is obstructed by snow, so it was updated with a new one. We'll probably not arrive in time for the reservation at the hotel and the dinner.
The blond sighs. He would rather not say "I told you so" because he knew that the brunette was very aware of the situation.
Yuu was still driving with a big frown and the sky was already starting to burn with a light orange color announcing the arrival of the afternoon. The snow was also starting to fall slowly like little white cottons.
It was a beautiful sight, which could even be enjoyed if it wasn't because he's starting to get hungry and tired of sitting inside a car for so many hours. He side eyed Yuu again.
- I have an idea.
Mika frowned this time.
— Yuu, I appreciate your effort but...
— No! No! Wait Mika! This will be amazing!
Yuu was very excited again and Mika had no choice but just settle himself into his seat, deeply sighing, "Why I'm so in love with him?"
One hour later, Mika fell asleep, overcome by the tiredness of the last few days. When he woke up, he had lost the consciousness of the time elapsed or the place where he was.
The beautiful violet-tinted afternoon with falling white snow showed before him through the glass of the car that was parked on a viewpoint towards the mountains.
And Yuu wasn't there.
Mika got out of the car wrapped in a coat, trying to keep warm his hands by blowing them. He could feel his cheeks warming and probably pink flushed because of the cold weather.
In the distance, he could see the silhouette of Yuu on his back and with the sound caused by his footsteps in the snow, Yuu became aware of Mika's presence.
— Mika, come here!
Not far in front of him, Yuu offered him his hand with a huge smile with the landscape of the warming sunset in the background, for a moment, Mika stopped breathing. Yuu always kept showing him the best views.
As he approached, Mika took Yuu's hand and the warmth of his palm finally touched his cold fingers.
He feels safe.
— Mika close your eyes and count until 5, I have a surprise for you!
One, two.
He heard the noise of hurried footsteps over the snow.
Three, four.
Yuu's heavy breathing and the gentle wind.
Five.
He opened his eyes. A little snow bear with little round ears, a cute smile and black buttons of eyes and nose, was perching in front of him, on the raised left little paw, a red box with a golden ribbon caught his attention.
Mika observed the box and then searched for Yuu's gaze.
— Open it, Mika.
He raised his hand to hold and open the gift to find a shiny golden ring with a small blue gem.
Mika stopped breathing this time.
— Mika, on a day like this 14 years ago, we met each other. Before I met you and our family, I didn't know what it was, the meaning of life. Also, I didn't understand the value of my own existence. Thanks to you and everything I learned, I understood that what people can give us, is the most dearest. Every moment that I experienced beside you, even the saddest ones, is valuable to me and I want to continue living my life with you until my last breath.
Yuu took the golden ring out of the box and knelt in front of Mika with a smile.
— Mika would you keep existing as the soulmate of my life?
Warm drops were running down from the blond's cheeks. If happiness could be measured, Mika's happiness at this moment would never be able to be measured.
Mika nodded with tears in his eyes and the biggest smile ever. He could barely contain himself in enjoyment.
Yuu started laughing and took Mika in his arms as he lifted him in the air. Both laughs filled the space from an afternoon on the 24th of December.
Sometimes imperfect times are the most perfect.
