Chapter Text

Boiling Isles Protection Program Headquarters.

September 25th, 2023. 4:39pm.

-~-~-~-~-~

“Lilith!” A middle aged woman with gray hair and golden eyes called out. She was looking at the security monitors in front of her with fear in her eyes. On the screen was a girl with short green hair. An older woman with darker green hair than the aforementioned girl was staring daggers into her back. The older woman seemed angry but the gray-haired woman couldn’t seem to place why.

Another woman, this one with curly ginger hair rushed to the security screen. “Do you have a security camera on the Blight residence?”

“Yeah, I do,” the gray-haired woman replied. “And the situation, from what I can tell, is just as bad as we feared, if not worse.”

“So her siblings were right to report this?” The ginger-haired woman asked.

The gray-haired woman sighed heavily. “I think this requires immediate action.”

“Really?” The ginger-haired woman said, shocked. “We hardly ever do that.”

“The twins gave us an action plan, and I think things will get worse for the kid if we wait any longer.” The gray-haired woman paused for a second. “I know we don’t have much of a team, it’s just you and me, Lilith. But we can take on Odalia Blight.”

The ginger-haired one, Lilith exhaled. “Eda, I-”

“Don’t ‘ Eda, I don’t think we can do it,’ me,” the gray-haired woman, Eda, rolled her eyes. “You and me? We’re the Clawthorne sisters. Strongest witches in The Boiling Isles. And this girl on screen, Amity Blight? She needs us, Lily. Are you coming with me to take on that disgusting woman, Odalia? Or are you going to sit by and watch?”

Lilith hesitated. But then she looked at her sister and saw the determined look in her eyes, and then back at the girl on screen, Amity. And she realized for the first time how bad the kid had it. She looked malnourished and her facial expression showed how much pain she really was in. Lilith could tell, easily, because she was trained for years to see past the guard that most kids had learned to put on, though Amity’s was tougher to see than most kids her age.

“Let’s go,” Lilith said.

Eda nodded. “Suit up then.”

The Blight Manor.

September 25th, 2023. 5:57pm.

-~-~-~-~-~

The Clawthorne sisters floated just above The Blight Residence on their respective palisman. They were wearing their Boiling Isles Protection Program uniforms which were a long navy blues shirt, a pair of black pants and black steel-toed boots. On top of the long-sleeved shirt was a black padded vest for protection from attacks.

“Let’s quickly review the plan,” Eda said.

Lilith stared at her sister blankly. “You never went over the plan with me.”

“Perfect, you can improvise!” Eda joked. “But seriously. We’ll sneak in through the back door of the manor, Edric and Emira said their sister is usually locked up in the study being forced to, well study. So we’ll try and sneak in there. This house is probably stocked up on all of those fancy abomin-security things so we might have to fight our way through if we get spotted. But it’ll be worth it if we can successfully extract the kid from this toxic environment. I messaged the twins and told them we’ll be coming rightttt about now, so they might be able to guide us to the kid.”

“And are the twins leaving with us?” Lilith asked.

Eda shook her head. “They said they want to stay to ensure that ugly bastard of a mother gets locked up. Said it was fine for them - they weren’t being hurt.”

Lilith nodded. “So is it time to go in, then?”

Eda nodded. And with that the Clawthorne sisters started their decline into the Blight’s backyard.

The Blight Manor was filled with expensive things and Eda had to restrain herself from trying to smash some of it. Or steal some of it. She could probably fit a lot of things in her hair since it could hold basically anything. She kept having to tell herself that she was on a mission so stealing things should be the LAST thing on her mind.

Eda and Lilith quietly followed Edric and Emira up the stairs, pausing when they saw a big gooey figure on the other side of a corridor. Lilith and Eda looked at each other, agreeing that it was time to fight. They both pulled out their palismans, fire in their eyes.

The Clawthorne sisters would do almost anything to protect a child from danger.

Once they turned the corners the abomination began to attack. Lilith skillfully dodged the punch it threw at her and blasted it’s head off with a magical blast of plants. She then silently motioned for Edric and Emira to follow her, Eda just ahead of the group as she scoped out the path forward.

As they walked down the corridor, Edric paused and opened a room.

“Guys, she’s in here!” Edric whispered loudly.

The group turned around and huddled into the room. The girl Eda had seen on the security footage looked even more worn out. She had heavy bags under her eyes and her eyes were focused on a textbook in front of her.

“Amity,” Edric said. “C’mon lil sis, we’re here to break you out!”

Amity looked at her sibling with a lost look on her face. “Why?”

“Because-”

“She is not going anywhere,” a loud demanding voice called out.

Eda and Lilith turned around, their staffs pointed at the one and only Odalia Blight. Eda’s eyes were narrowed and her eyebrows were knitted together. Lilith had an angry snarl on her face. Odalia laughed, sounding almost amused, but her eyes showed anything but.

“I saw this coming you know,” Odalia said. “I’ve heard of your little crew, the Boiling Isles Potty Program, or whatever you call it. But you see, you won’t be able to take my daughter. She’s staying right here. And I know my dearest twins will stay as well.”

“Amity, get up,” Emira said, her voice pleading with desperation. “We’ll stay back and fight, but  you have to run.”

Amity’s face was knitted with concern. “I don’t understand-”

“There’s no time to explain, but please go with the Clawthorne Sisters, we’ll take care of our mother,” Edric said. His hands flared up with illusion magic, Emira following his lead a second later. Odalia laughed even harder, her eyes flaring up with rage.

“Eda, you take care of the kid,” Lilith said.

Eda nodded. “I’ll see you at headquarters.”

Amity was watching the whole thing, confusion on her face. When Eda turned to her, she spoke. “If you’re fighting my mom, I uh, I can help. I’m strong!”

“Kid, no. Your siblings and my sister can handle her. You and I have got to get out of here. Safely,” Eda explained.

Emira turned around and chucked a box at Amity. The green-haired girl quickly caught it, not sure why her sister was throwing her a box. “It’s something from Ed and I. It’ll keep you safe where you’re going.”

“But wher-”

“No time for questions,” Emira interrupted. “Just go, please.”

“But I don’t want to leave you,” Amity pleaded. “What if-”

“We’ll be fine,” Emira promised. “But you need to go!”

Three abominations appeared behind Odalia, and a greater smirk appeared on the tyrants face. Emira frowned and lunged at her mother. Edric casted an illusion spell, and Lilith sent a burst of magic aiming for one of the abominations. Odalia grinned as she casted a spell of her own, though Amity didn’t get a good chance to look at it before she was whisked away from the fight by Eda.

As Eda and Amity fled from the Blight Manor, the tiny green-haired witch stayed silent. Eda could only assume it was because she didn’t want to get in trouble with her, though Eda felt as though Amity was so well-behaved that she didn’t know what trouble REALLY was. From what she learned through the report filed by Edric and Emira, Amity would get in trouble for getting less than a 100% on school assignments, and the punishments usually involved restrictions on food and increased study hours.

For some reason Odalia had double standards. Amity always had to be perfect, meanwhile her other kids, the twins, were never held to the same standards.

Eda’s heart ached for the youngest Blight. She remembered what it was like to be the kid who got all of their parents' attention. It was never any fun. And her heart also ached for the twins, they seemed to be in a similar situation to Lilith, though their mother was not as abusive as Odalia Blight. Just….obsessive.

Once Amity and Eda made it outside of the Blight Manor, after defeating a few abominations, Eda took out Owlbert and motioned for Amity to hop on their ticket out of that abusive household.

Eda hoped that poor girl would never, ever have to return back to that household ever again.
