A New Dawn of Fanfiction: AI Writes Star Wars

Summary:

Everyday for thirty days, I provide a prompt to the OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT. I will share the prompt and the results by our budding A.I. author. Think of it as R2-D2 writes fanfiction. They've been getting better as the days go on. You'll see a significant improvement in style when I switch over to GPT-4.

Notes:

I started posting these stories to my Tumblr (Longlivetheclones) a few days ago. I've been fascinated with artificial intelligence even before I ever saw Star Wars. It is fascinating to think of all the ways humans and machines can interact and continue to evolve together. ChatGPT is terrifyingly good. We'll likely be hearing a lot about it over the next year. Might as well enjoy it while it is still free.

Chapter 1: Rescuing Captain Rex

Chapter Text

Prompt: Generate a Star Wars fanfiction where Captain Rex is injured and separated from the rest of his men.

Captain Rex, leader of the 501st Legion, was on a mission to infiltrate a Separatist base on a distant planet. The plan was to sabotage their weapons and destroy the base before they could launch an attack on the Republic.

But things quickly went wrong. The base was heavily guarded and the Separatists were expecting them. A blaster bolt hit Rex in the leg, causing him to stumble and fall. His men were able to provide cover fire and extract him from the base, but the injury was severe. Rex was losing blood fast and needed immediate medical attention.

The rest of the 501st were able to escape, but they had to leave Rex behind. He was unconscious and unable to move. The base was in lockdown and they couldn't risk going back for him.

Rex woke up in a Separatist medical bay, surrounded by enemy droids. His leg was bandaged, but he could feel the pain all the way to his bones. He knew he had to escape, but he was weak and couldn't move.

He lay there for hours, waiting for the right moment. When the droids were distracted, he managed to crawl out of the medical bay and into the base. He avoided patrols, using his knowledge of the base to navigate through the corridors. He was determined to find a way out and rejoin his men.

But his luck ran out. He was caught by a patrol and thrown into a cell. He was alone and injured, with no hope of escape.

Days passed and Rex was getting weaker. He was running out of time. But he didn't give up hope. He knew that his men would never leave him behind. He was a part of the 501st and they were a family.

And then, one day, he heard blaster fire and explosions. The 501st had come back for him. They had launched a full-scale attack on the base, determined to rescue their captain.

Rex was overjoyed. He knew he was going to make it. He fought alongside his men, and together they destroyed the base and defeated the Separatists. Rex was injured, but alive. He was reunited with his men, and together they returned to the Republic as heroes.

The war was not over, but for Captain Rex and the 501st, this was just the beginning. They would fight for the Republic and for each other, no matter what. They were the best of the best, and nothing would stop them.
