Work Header

Today of all days, see how the most dangerous thing is to love.

Summary:

It wasn’t that Ghost thought that Soap was incompetent. The man had a tendecy to get into things that were bigger that he could handle. Through Rodolfo he found out, that they took care of Graves while he was in the tank... Bringing guns to a tank fight was taken literally. Through Soap managing to place C4 close to it the whole time while Rodolfo gave back-up. This bought feelings forth, which he put away nicely into a box in de depth of his mind, after Las Almas.

Work Text:

It wasn’t that Ghost thought that Soap was incompetent. The man had a tendecy to get into things that were bigger that he could handle. Through Rodolfo he found out, that they took care of Graves while he was in the tank... Bringing guns to a tank fight was taken literally. Through Soap managing to place C4 close to it the whole time while Rodolfo gave back-up. This bought feelings forth, which he put away nicely into a box in de depth of his mind, after Las Almas.

He realised that everyone moved out of his way when he walked through the halls. Most looking in fear as he passed by. While this was not uncommon, Ghost would get tired from it. They should know he wouldn’t do anything against them since they are all part of the same team. He would find Soap in the end outside, sitting against a tree as he was drawing in his journal. As the Sergeant would hear footsteps, he would close the journal and look who was coming. The tense look on his face, disappeared at the sight of the Lieutenant and the man would even smile softly.

“Hey Lt. Everything alright? You look.... hmm annoyed?” He would remain smiling, his blue eyes crinkling while looking at Ghost. the tall man took a deep breath, to control his annoyance and not to let it go into the conversation.

“Had a talk with Alejandro and Rodolfo. Roldolfo mentioned something interesting. How.. you spoke to Graves while you were fighting him. In. A. Tank. Now I heard you over the comms, but Johnny you fought him while he was in a tank? He could have blown you to bits with a good shot!” The anger he felt slowly slipped into his speech and he saw the effect it had on Soap. Many might think, that John “Soap” MacTavish would feel bad when people got angry at him. Those people did not know the Sergeant well. Johnny’s smile disappeared and his eyes got a hard edge on it. A frown would appear between his eyes as he got up and stood in front of Ghost. Which was something Ghost always appreciated, Johnny was not scared of him, no matter what.

“Yes. Not like I had a choice. We climbed over the wall and once on the ground he came towards us in a tank. What would you have had us to do? Hide? Rodolfo and I are as much of a soldier as anyone else. We had the means to take care of it. It would require a lot of running and ducking. But we managed and blew up the tank. But what about that? You would have done the same. And yes Lt. I could have gotten shot, but I wasn’t”

The way Ghost said it so factual annoyed him, but he knew the man was right. There was no other choice. However the masked man didn’t understand why it bothered him so much.

“Why did you not tell me. Why had I to hear it from Alejandro and Rodolfo, Johnny and not from you?”Ah and there it was. The reason he was annoyed. The fact that Johnny kept it quiet, didn’t tell him even though they were supposed to be a team together.

“... Ghost you had enough on your mind. I was gonna tell you, but Price just got shot down. And I was not going to put you in a position where you were going to think you had to help me and Rodolfo. We were managing and afterwards? There wasn’t time. Still isn’t. We are going after Hassan in a few hours. I assure you I was going to tell you. I swear Ghost.”

Ghost would take a deep breath and close his eyes. The words Johnny said made sense. He would have thought that Soap would need help, while also thinking about helping Price. The tension he held in his shoulders slowly disappeared and he began to relax. The box with emotions, well hidden away, apparently had spilt over the floor in his mind. He looked at the Sergeant,

“You.. have to go and tell me this Johnny. I would have rather heard it from you. I would always rather here it from you.” His voice took a softer note, something that immediately caused Soap’s face to soften. Soap his hand would slowly and gently touch Ghost’s shoulder as he began to smile.

“I will in the future Lt. Now how about we get ready took take care of the last missile and Hassan? I promise to tell you the things in the future okay? Let’s get this last win Simon.” Soap chuckled and tilt his head as he looked at Ghost. The taller man in question took another deep breathe. His heartbeat picking up at the words, his name and the touch from his Sergeant.

Not often that Ghost his body moved faster then his mind. The moment Johnny told him to watch the window however, his body moved and aimed faster then his mind caught. His heart skipped when he saw Hassan drag his Johnny to the window. Never in his life had he ever aimed so fast and took the shot.

“Perfect shot Lt...” He heard from the comms and he looked away from the sniper. A soft smile on his lips, hidden by his mask, as he replied.
“You called it Sergeant.” He then went to deliver the message towards the rest of the team.
“All stations- Hassan’s down. Enemy KIA.”
He then began to pack up and hurry to the helo, wanting to check on Johnny quickly. And maybe, just maybe, talk about the affection he had for the Sergeant that he held since Las Almas.

Notes:
