The moon was still high up in the sky- a silent indication to Yoichi that morning was still very far away. He had long since put his device away, wanting to focus on getting a good night’s sleep since he had an important event tomorrow; one that he just couldn’t miss no matter what. But still.. how long had he turned and tossed, unable to sleep? Once he opened his eyes, he would be wide awake, not a bit of sleepiness present. But if he didn’t sleep now, he might wake up late tomorrow, which might result in him being late to their date..
Ugh!
Unable to withstand it anymore, Yoichi grabbed his mobile phone that lay next to his pillow, turning it on. After staring into the dark for so long, it was only natural that the light from the device would be a bit blinding. The teen squinted his eyes, but he resumed whatever he planned on doing, which was to open the LINE application.
Yoichi’s finger hovered over Meguru’s chatroom, contemplating on whether he should message him or not. His gaze moved towards the status bar of his phone, his lips pressing into a thin line when he saw that it was.. very much late.
“𝟎𝟑:𝟒𝟗 𝐀𝐌”
Well.. even if he messaged Meguru, it wouldn’t bother him right? He was sure the other kept his notifications on- but then again, the man was a deep sleeper. So a little ding.. shouldn’t wake him up right? He doubted the other would respond but it was worth a try.
𝐲𝐨𝐢: meguru, are you asleep?
It took quite a while before he decided to press on the send button, immediately turning off his phone after placing it next to his pillow again. Don’t get him wrong, he was excited to see if Meguru would respond, but it was highly unlikely. Yoichi started to close his eyes again, readying himself for another trial of sleeping.
He expected silence. Or maybe even a miraculous ‘ding!’ from his phone, as a sign that Meguru was very much still awake. What he didn’t expect, however, was the vibrating of his phone next to his pillow, which immediately made him sit up from his lying down position. Yoichi’s eyes stared at the screen of his phone, seemingly in disbelief. There, on his screen, was an incoming video call from his boyfriend- who he was meeting tomorrow.
So he was still awake, huh? With a small smile, Yoichi swiped accept, angling his phone properly so Meguru would have a better view of his face, before lying down once again.
“𝘊𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱?”
Yoichi chuckled softly, nodding his head. ”Mm. I’m not nervous or anything, but it’s just that.. I can’t get myself to sleep. It’s like I’m wide awake.” A laugh could be heard from the phone speaker, and a teasing smile was visible on Meguru’s lips.
“𝘌𝘩? 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦~? 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸!”
Yoichi’s cheeks immediately blushed a soft shade of pink, clearly embarrassed with what Meguru said. It was dark and it was barely visible- but Meguru could tell, even from a phone screen if his boyfriend was blushing.
“N-No! I told you, I just can’t sleep!” He tried to defend himself, his eyes looking anywhere but the front camera of his phone, clearly flustered by Meguru’s words.
“𝘏𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘩𝘢! 𝘐'𝘮 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘠𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯. 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥.”
Yoichi immediately covered his face with his free hand, not wanting the other to tease him any longer. As long as his face had a visible tint of pink on it, Meguru would keep poking fun at him, he was sure of it.
He stayed like that for a bit, and silence engulfed the both of them. It wasn’t the stuffy and awkward kind of silence though, it was like a pause, a well needed one. Yoichi thought the other might have hung up, or even fell asleep from how quiet it was, but before he could even peek, his boyfriend decided to speak up into the microphone of his device.
"𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭? 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱? 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩. 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 5% 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺."
He slowly removed his hand from his face, a small, shy smile on his lips. He would love that, to be completely honest. Sleeping with Meguru in call like this.. lifted an unknown weight off of his shoulders, made his stomach swarming with butterflies, and made his head all fuzzy and warm. It was just the effect Bachira Meguru had on him- he was like a drug.
"𝘖𝘬𝘢𝘺. 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘠𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯."
“Goodnight, Megu.”
And like he never had problems with sleeping in the first place, Yoichi was sound asleep just a few minutes after exchanging goodnights with his boyfriend. After hearing the soft breathing from the other side, Meguru found himself smiling fondly, kissing the screen of his own phone with a light chuckle. “Sweet dreams, Yoichi.” he whispered, knowing full well the other wasn’t awake to hear it.

Luckily, he woke up on his first alarm. Good- this way, he wouldn’t be rushing. Yoichi lazily brushed his teeth in front of the mirror of his bathroom, his eyes closed as his hand moved. He was still sleepy, but not so much as to fall asleep while brushing his teeth. He knew a cup of coffee could solve this problem, so he made a mental note to do so after getting ready. He still had another hour before his date, so he still had plenty of time. Yoichi stepped out of the bathroom after he rinsed his mouth off of the foam, starting to choose his outfit for the day. They had planned for ice skating.. So perhaps something thicker will do.
As he was looking through the clothes in his wardrobe, Yoichi’s gaze lingered for a moment longer at the khaki coloured hoodie, his hands slowly reaching out to touch the soft material of the top. This.. belonged to Meguru. He still hadn’t returned it to the other since he thought that it would be a waste, as selfish as that sounded.
He still vaguely remembered- it was a date, much like today. But when Yoichi was about to walk home, it started to rain really heavily, and since Meguru’s house was much closer, his boyfriend had invited him to stay the night instead. From how it looked that day, it didn’t seem like the downpour would be stopping anytime soon.
Yoichi’s heart still felt fuzzy, remembering that day. They took a hot bath together, Meguru offering his hoodie, them cuddling under the thick covers of the other’s bed, along with a delicious mug of hot cocoa. It was, undoubtedly, the best date of his life. With a fond smile on his lips at the memory, Yoichi slowly slipped the hoodie on, before making his way to the kitchen for a cup of coffee.
The man took a mug from one of the cupboards, placing it under the coffee machine before turning it on. He then grabbed two slices of bread, wanting to put them into the toasters. He needed to have a bit of something to eat so he would be full of energy by the time he met his boyfriend. Before he could even reach the toaster, however, he heard the doorbell sound from his apartment door, and Yoichi’s brows furrowed at that. Who would it be, this early in the morning? Postman? But he didn’t recall ever buying anything online recently..
Whoever it was, it would be rude to leave them hanging for so long. He hoped it wasn’t his mother though.. God knows just how much he loved that sweet woman, but her timing just wasn’t the best, sometimes. If she comes now, he can’t possibly go out on that date! His parents are always priority, after all.
Yoichi made his way to the front door of his apartment, making sure to peek through the peephole first. He expected a random old lady selling fruits, or his landlord even- not.. definitely not his boyfriend! Meguru was looking down on his phone, seemingly scrolling through his Twitter with a small smile on his lips. From where he was looking, it seemed like his boyfriend brought along something in his hand.. It looks like a plastic bag. But of what? And he brought along a backpack too..
No point dwelling and trying to guess when he can ask the person himself. What was he doing here though? Their agreed date time was 30 minutes from now, and they were supposed to meet at the train station! Yoichi unlocked the door and opened it anyway, smiling small at the sight of his boyfriend. He was happy to see the other, but he was still a little bit confused as to why he was here in the first place.
Meguru immediately rose his head at the sound of the door opening, his eyes lighting up at the sight of his beloved. The brunette beamed into a grin, immediately throwing his arms around the slightly shorter male, nuzzling his cheek against the other’s hair. “Yocchan! Good morning~” He cooed with a little chuckle, slowly pulling away.
“Good morning, Meguru.” He greeted the other back, smiling small. He was really infectious with his happiness, as always. “Come. I was just making coffee.” He said, gently interlacing their fingers together before he pulled his boyfriend with him inside of his little apartment. After making sure the door was locked securely, Yoichi guided the other to the living room, letting him sit on the loveseat before he made himself comfortable next to Meguru.
“I don’t.. Understand. I thought we were going to Aquarium?” Yoichi asked, still having Meguru’s hand in his, his thumb absentmindedly rubbing circles on the back of the other’s. The brunette only chuckled, bringing up a hand to gently pinch his boyfriend’s cheek.
“Idiot. You slept so late yesterday- I know how bad you function when you don’t have enough sleep.” Meguru said, that usual adorable smile that Yoichi was so fond of making an appearance once again. “So why not just have a date at your home? We can watch movies, play games.. And I even brought spare clothes if you let me stay the night.” Meguru said with a big smile, his honey eyes glimmering with excitement as he stared into Yoichi’s ocean blue ones.
He.. thought about him. Meguru, even though he slept at the same time as him if not later, was more concerned about him than himself, that he was willing to cancel their date. “But Megu.. you wanted to go to the Aquarium? We’re just gonna get busier, and there might not be another time where we can-”
Yoichi’s words were cut off with a gentle press of Meguru’s lips against his, and it effectively shut him up. The brunette pulled away after, placing a finger on his lips as an indication to be quiet. “Haven’t I told you before? I don’t mind anywhere as long as it’s with you. Heck- I didn’t even want to go that much. We can have a stupid picnic under a balding three with three pieces of bread and I’d still be happy. So don’t worry so much.” Meguru laughed.
Yoichi felt his heart skip a beat at those words, and slowly, a smile appeared on his lips.
“..Okay..” He whispered, slowly leaning in to the other’s warmth and wrapping his arms around Meguru’s waist, hiding his face in the crook of his boyfriend’s neck. “I love you.” Yoichi whispered, nuzzling his cheek against the other’s neck. “I love you too, egoist.” Meguru whispered against his hair. They stayed like that for a long time, a comfortable silence engulfing the both of them. Strange, both of them could do absolutely nothing but bask in each other’s presence, and it’d still be enjoyable.

“You’re definitely staying the weekend by the way. Not just the night.”
“Aye aye, captain!”
