Flirt Combo

Summary:

Stephanie just needs a little warmth.

Winter + Hot Drinks & Cookies + Cold hands in warm hands

Notes:

A short & sweet piece for the JaySteph Winter Solstice collection!
Can be read as platonic or romantic: I usually write Jason and Stephanie being strictly siblings / besties, but I tried something different there for this challenge ^^
Enjoy!

Work Text:

"You're cold."

"And you must be a genius, to formulate such a clever deduction!"

Steph and Jay shared a complicit smile.

She giggled afterwards when he seized both her hands in his and brought them to his lips... to blow softly on the frozen skin. Jason's palms were always so warm.

Who said dead guys should be cold?

"If you want, I rush inside, grab a plate of cookies, two mugs of hot chocolate and we run upstairs to eat, drink and criticize Dick's fashion style. Our presence won't be requested elsewhere."

Stephanie didn't comment, nevertheless she felt... grateful. Jaybird saw her walking to this terrace when the atmosphere of the reception became overwhelming, he left her alone a couple minutes to evacuate the socializing-induced anxiety before checking on her. Despite the thick purple coat covering her golden dress, the winter evening is frigid. She shouldn't stay too long outside in this outfit.

"Eddie pretends pumpkin cookies and hot chocolate are the ultimate flirt combo," Stephanie briefed him very seriously, chin in the air.

"Oh, really?" Red Hood smirked. "And since when is Riddler an expert in matter of... flirting abilities?"

"He is no longer the Riddler," Stephie reminded quietly, then the Robins eyed the scene behind the bay window: they spotted the Private Investigator in the huge reception hall filled with Gothamites dressed fancy. "And his flirting abilities are kinda working for him now! At least... in his head."

Like a too affectionate ginger cat, Edward was babbling and practically purring next to Bruce who tried (and failed) to get rid of him by desperately handing him over to any guest at random.

Steph couldn't contain a burst of laughter. Jason grinned. That was fun indeed.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders when they braced themselves and entered the crowded space anew.

"Get the chocolate, I'm in charge of the pumpkin," Batgirl decided all of a sudden. "You know... just elementary curiosity: I wanna test the true 'flirting abilities' stored in hot drinks and cookies. For science."

She winked at him prior disappearing in the crowd.

Jason's smile stayed printed on his lips.

He knows they'll spend a relaxed, pleasant evening together in a private Wayne Manor living-room... probably wrapped in heavy blankets, making stupid but hilarious jokes while watching their favorite family picture book: the year featuring disco!Nightwing with his mullet.

A much better plan overall, than listening to the guests' anecdotes and forcing themselves to interact with too many people in this reception.

Even when they sincerely give a try to mix with the other bats-and-birds for mundane events... Stephanie and Jason rather enjoy themselves on their own.

Just the two of them, hot drinks and cookies to feel warm this cold winter night.
