“You’re fun as always, Edelgard.” Shez remarks with a grin, mentioning that Enbarr’s forests were beautiful and that her time as a mercenary never brought her to this city. “I’m pretty surprised that for once, Hubert and Monica aren’t stalking us in their free time.”
‘Fun’ was a uncommon adjective Edelgard heard when she was described. Her retainers, Monica in particular, not being extraordinarily paranoid was more uncommon. She smiles anyway whilst speaking about their, as Shez called it, an annoying level of devotion to their duties anyway. “You have been living at the at the palace without complication the past two months, though I do wonder if it is possible for them to be swayed away from excess caution.”
Fortunately, Shez had an affection for the retainer’s efforts to ascertain Her Majesty’s maximum comfort. She would have voiced this were it not for Edelgard’s sudden solemnity. “Edelgard?”
“It’s nothing concerning.” She assuages, pausing to stroke the front of her hair briefly. “In the two months thereafter your confession, we have not kissed once.” Likely because of how often they were watched, but she doesn’t add that on.
“Oh,” Mutters Shez, accompanied by a blank stare. “I guess we haven’t?”
“Ugh.” Her beam betrays any annoyance she intended to portray. Then, she lightly takes Shez’s ungloved hand.
“Well,” It wasn’t very audible, but Shez did stutter. Edelgard was staring rather intensely, and it was beginning to make Shez feel flustered. “We, we can, I think—“
In anticipation of Shez rambling into a series of mindless statements, Edelgard uses her other hand to tilt her partner’s face downward. It lasted less than a second.
“So, even you get embarrassed.” Shez did not start spluttering or running away in happiness, as often shown in plays, nor was she left speechless. Still, Edelgard felt accomplished. “I believe this is the first time I have seen you blush, albeit faintly.”
“That was out nowhere! Of course I’d be embarrassed.” Her blush deepens, which makes Edelgard’s prideful smile wider, which then causes Shez further embarrassment and reddening.
“Well? Judging by your reaction, that must have been your first.”
“You act like it wasn’t your first too!”
Her lucky getting-Shez-to-blush streak ends with the emperor blushing herself, who had always been quicker to blush over nonsensical things. “It… was.”
“I’d mock you if it wasn’t a more daily sight than me swinging a sword.” Simultaneously, she recovers all smoothness lost when she asks for a second kiss.
Edelgard quickly obliges; she’d just have to figure out how to embarrass her farther in the near future.
