Merry Christmas [y/n]...

Summary:

Aizawa is late home on Christmas Eve. You had spent a long time planning this and making sure it was perfect, but here he isn't.

Notes:

Surprise upload! I had this in the works for a couple weeks because I got bored between assignments, so I figured I might as well finish it off and have a mini Christmas Special!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Staring out of the window, you watch the snow fall, the soft snowflakes littering the air outside and gently landing onto the blanket beneath. The view from the apartment made it more magical. A group of kids had wandered outside and began playing in the snow, some flopping into the ground face first while the others laughed. Couples walked along the pavement, gloved hands intertwined. It was beautiful.

Inside, you were warm. The fire was burning steadily as you looked back towards it before averting your eyes to the clock above the mantle. Your partner was late home.

With a sigh, you stand up and head to the bathroom. A warm shower and a new set of pajamas awaited you. It had always been a family tradition on Christmas Eve, to make more excitement and to also get you to go to bed so your parents could have their alone time.

Your partner's pajamas were folded neatly on the edge of the bed next to yours and part of you wanted to wait a little longer for him. Something seemed off.

"Surely he would've called if something came up..." you mumble to yourself, heading back to the living room and grabbing your phone. Hoping it was just a case of missing his message, you turn it over, the screen lighting up. There were no new notifications.

You were already used to him being late, but on Christmas eve... Shaking your head, you try to remove the negative thoughts. Just a little longer, you thought.

Those minutes turned into an hour and you were almost asleep on the sofa. The hot water bottle you had filled earlier was almost cold. Standing up, you stretch before checking your phone one last time.

Nothing.

Tears brimmed your eyes as you dropped the phone onto the sofa. Feeling somewhat lost, you head back to the bathroom and begin running a bath. In a way, you were stalling for time, wanting him to come back before you stepped foot into the tub.

Just as the water rose half way, the door clicked, creaking as it opened.

"[y/n]?" Your partner called out.

Turning off the tap, you wander out of the bathroom. "Hey," you started.

"I am so sorry..." He unwrapped his scarf from around his neck, hanging it up on the hook next to the door.

Shaking your head, you smile. "It's ok. I just started running a bath if you'd like to join me?"

His eyes lit up, a small smile spreading on his face. "I would like that." He took off his coat and placed it next to his scarf, shoes placed underneath.

"Come, Aizawa..." You held out your hand and he took it almost instantly. His fingers were freezing, making you stop and turn to him. "Did you not wear any gloves?"

"I couldn't find them..." Looking down at his fingers, he noticed how red they were.

"Oh my god Aizawa. You could've gotten frostbite, it's freezing out there!" You take his other hand and sandwich them between your own, slowly warming them up. "Go sit in front of the fire and let me sort the bath out."

He nodded, sheepishly walking to the fire and sitting down. It always made a change with you bossing him around instead of him taking the lead. You were the only one who had the charm. If it were anyone else, he wouldn't even bother, but you... oh god, you were something special and he wanted to be by your side everyday. Leaving you in the morning pained him more than you would ever think. You were in his every thought, from when he's teaching to when he's out doing his patrol. Aizawa would hunt down anybody who dared to even look at you in the wrong way. He wanted to protect you every chance he could, even if it meant he'd be hurt, or worse. Seeing you happy made his heart warm and he wouldn't change you for the world.

By the time you came back, Aizawa was already warmed up. His fingers were back to life and no longer frozen, but he was for sure tired after a long patrol.

Walking behind him, you bend over and put your hands on his cheeks feeling how hot they were. "Bath is ready."

He stood up, entwining his hand with yours as you led him to the bathroom. Both of you stripped down, a little blush appearing on each other's cheeks. Aizawa stepped in first, sinking down into the water, back resting against the tub. He let out an audible sigh just before you stepped in and settled yourself between his legs. His muscles were aching and the hot water caressed them just right.

You leant back into your partner, feeling the rise and fall of his chest against your back. In that moment, you were both relaxed, soaking in the warmth of the water and each other.

Aizawa shifted slightly before grabbing the sponge and lacing it with body wash. Gently, he washed your body, making sure to massage you in just the right places. Each time his hand pushed the right spot, you let out a quiet moan. You were in pure bliss and you didn't want it to end. It was definitely worth the wait.

When he had washed all the suds off of your body, you turn to him and do the exact same thing. His back was tense so you gently worked your hands into each muscle, drawing out the knots and tightness. With each movement, Aizawa let out a deep sigh, small grunts and moans escaping from his lips as you gently massaged his body.

Aizawa absolutely loved the way you knew how to relax him, from the small touches to this. It was always a difficult task to relax on his own, but when he was around you, he felt so at ease. Everything would just melt away the moment he saw you.

You both sat in the tub a while longer, basking in the warmth. The steam in the bathroom had slowly started to settle, which meant that it was time to leave. Getting up first, you grab a towel and wrap it around your body. Grabbing the second towel, you hand it to Aizawa who does the same. Aizawa bent over to unplug the drain, letting the water slowly go down.

Aizawa took your hand in his and walked you both out into the bedroom before sitting you down on the edge of the bed. He stood over you, hair stuck to his face and neck, his eyes were warm as he looked at you, a faint blush appearing on his cheeks. His chest was bare but scarred, years worth of fighting was taking its toll on his body, but yet, despite everything, he still looked handsome. His muscles, now relaxed, were still prominent as his hands cupped your cheeks. Leaning in, he planted a kiss on your lips, the taste of coffee settling itself on your bottom lip.

Pulling back, he smiled at you, admiring your beauty, the way your eyes sparkled in the moonlit room. The water droplets slowly making their way down the side of your face. If he could stay there, in that exact moment forever, he would truly love that.

Aizawa towered over you for a moment more before stepping back, letting you stand.

"I hope you like them..." You say sheepishly, grabbing his folded pair of pajamas and handing them to him. "Even if you only wear them until we head to bed, that's completely fine!" The embarrassment rose in you, not knowing how he would react.

He looked at you for a moment before letting the clothing unravel. He held out a black cat onesie, fitted with a hood with cat ears sewn on top. Letting out a small chuckle, he walked over to you and hugged you tight. "I love it."

Your cheeks grew warm as you grabbed your pajamas, letting them unravel too. The both of you were matching, two black cats on Christmas Eve.

As Aizawa dressed himself, zipping up the front, he noticed an 'A' sewn into the fabric with a little red heart next to it. He smiled, knowing that you had done that yourself. Those hours you kept shut away in the office, hiding from him and the world, working on papers that were handed to you by your superior. Of course, you didn't always work, instead picking up hobbies to take your mind off the everyday struggles. Sewing was one of those skills your mother had passed onto you when you were younger, and there were plenty of clothes to repair for Aizawa.

The both of you looked at each other once you were both dressed. Aizawa's cheeks blushed red while yours grew warmer the longer you kept eye contact. He stepped towards you, holding out his hand. Without hesitation, you took it, letting him lead you to the living room. His hand was slightly damp, and not due to the bath you both shared.

"Sit, let me make the drinks." He took you to the sofa where you sat down almost instantly. A small nod of agreement and he left for the kitchen.

As he entered the kitchen, he leant against the marble countertop, palms pressing into the cold slate. His mind was racing with many different thoughts - one of which was how he landed such a person like you… Everything about you was perfect; your shape, the way you smile, the way your eyes light up when you talk about something you are passionate about. He loved every inch of you and wouldn’t trade you for anything in the world. You meant the world to him.

As he made both drinks, he could hear you laughing in the living room. A smile crept onto his face, he knew you were scrolling through videos online, a pass time that became almost a habit when you were bored. Walking out with both mugs in hand, he approached you.

You lifted your head up, instantly turning off the app and putting your phone down, a wide smile on your face. "Thank you," you say, taking the mug off him.

He smiled, dropping down next to you. "Hopefully it's ok."

"If you made it, I'm sure it's perfect." Bringing the mug up to your lips, you take a small sip. The cream on top was the almost perfect swirl, chocolate dusting coating the top layer of it. Two small marshmallows on either side, attempting to look like a feline made you smile even more. The hot cocoa was perfect, the right amount of chocolate and milk.

Aizawa had the biggest grin on his face when he saw how amazed you were by it. "It's not that good."

"Stop downplaying yourself, I love it!" You place the mug on the side table before throwing your arms around him, embracing him tightly. "You always do that. Aizawa, you are perfect."

His cheeks flushed red as his hands wrapped around your body, slowly rubbing up and down your back as you refused to let go of him. His hair smelt of coconut, still wet after the bath. With your cheek wet, you shifted slightly before turning your head and planting a kiss on his cheek, stubble lightly tickling your lips.

After a moment of hugging, you release yourself from your partner, staring at him, eyes glistening from the lights in the Christmas tree. It was a silent moment, the two of you inches away from each other, eyes locked and cheeks warm.

Aizawa stood and offered his hand, pulling you up as you took it. "Come, dance with me."

His arms wrapped back around your body, cradling your lower back whilst his chin rested on your shoulder. Your arms were around his neck, hands gently clasped together. The two of you swayed in harmony.

So many thoughts were racing in his head. His cheeks were warm and he certainly was warm in the onesie and next to the fire. He could feel his hands begin to get clammy, almost sticking to the back on your onesie.

It was a night for you to remember, for sure. This had never happened to you. Having always spent Christmas either alone or with family, and more recently with Aizawa the last few years, they were almost always the same. With family it was a movie, and then bed. Alone; usually work and then bed. With Aizawa; he was either working patrol until early morning, or too tired to do anything when he got off early. This year though, you asked in advance if someone could cover so you could at least spend a memorable Christmas with him. Luckily, someone who wanted overtime and didn't have anyone to spend Christmas with took the offer, and while it broke your heart a little for the poor guy who said he would, you were super happy and thankful you got to spend Christmas with the one you love. Even though he was late, you still had plenty of time before Christmas Day.

"Hey, how come you were late?" You almost whisper.

His breath got caught in his throat. "I just ran over a little with some paperwork. As soon as I got up to leave I got called to finish something up with the police. I tried to detest them, but they were adamant I got it filled tonight... I'm sorry, [y/n]." The grip on your back got tight for a moment.

"It's fine, as I said." You smile against his chest.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, silly!" You raise your head and look at him, his eyes soft and apologetic. "Don't look at me like that..."

"Like what?"

"Like a lost kitten." You pull him down for a kiss. "Makes me want to do all kinds of things to you."

Aizawa's face went red as you pulled back. Letting out a small giggle, you peck his lips once more.

The both of you went back to swaying, a perfect moment.

"Hey... [y/n]..." Aizawa's voice was quiet.

"What's up?" You replied.

He stayed silent for a moment, heart racing.

"Aizawa?"

You could feel the grip on your back get tighter.

"Hey, Aizawa..." You pull back, cupping his head in your hands. His eyes avoid yours and instantly you think the worst. "What's wrong? Look at me."

He avoided your gaze even though he was facing you.

"Aizawa." Your voice was cold.

His heart dropped a little, making him look at you. "Sorry... Wait here."

"What?" Your concern was replaced with confusion as your partner let go and left the room. Your mind was racing. What on earth has gotten into him? Leaving me like this after making me worried... Surely he didn't do anything... right?

Aizawa returned a small moment later, face clearly damp from splashing himself in the bathroom.

"Is everything ok?" You ask, tilting your head slightly.

"Mhm." Was all the noise he made.

You noticed he was different. Awkward even.

"Listen..." Trying to find the words, he paused. He looked at you, noticing your expression was all over the place. "It’s nothing bad, promise."

The both of you stood staring at each other for what seemed like hours. His face softened up a little as he approached you, heart racing once more.

"[y/n]..." He took your hands, rubbing small circles over the top with his thumbs. "You make me so happy, more than happy. From the moment I saw you, I fell in love..."

"Aizawa..." Your cheeks grew warm, the sudden verbal affection catching you off guard.

"Every time I'm out patrolling I'm thinking of you. Every moment." He looks down at his feet. "I can't say there's ever a moment I'm not thinking about you... While I'm teaching, just the thought of you makes me smile. I've had some very weird looks from my students."

The smile on your face grew wider with every word, but you stayed silent.

"I don't remember a time I was this happy... maybe many years ago with Hizashi and Oboro, but that is nothing compared to now." His smile faltered a little when he mentioned his lost friend, but when he looked up, his eyes sparkled in the fire light. "[y/n]... You are everything to me..."

Aizawa pulled a small box out of his pocket as he knelt down, heart on the very verge of bursting.

You step back, hands coming up to cover your mouth, tears brimming your eyes.

"[y/n]..." Opening the box, he revealed a dainty diamond ring sitting in blue velvet. "Will you be my partner?" His cheeks were burning, heart racing like it had never done before.

You couldn't even get the words out of your mouth, instead just nodding your head aggressively.

Aizawa chuckled, slowly standing up and grabbing your hand. The ring fit perfectly on your finger. All you could do was sob and hug him tightly, hands gripping his back tightly.

"Hey now..." He rubbed your back, calming you down.

As you let go, you look at Aizawa, your now fiancé, and the tears didn't stop. "I love you..." You finally managed to croak out between sobs.

Aizawa pulled you in, closing the gap between your bodies and kissed you, and this time, it truly felt different.

"I love you too, kitten... I'm so glad I got spend this evening with you..." Aizawa mumbled against your lips when you separated briefly.

The both of you started swaying once more, holding each other tightly, eyes sparkling and the snow falling outside. Truly a picture perfect Christmas.

"Merry Christmas, [y/n]."
