Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Fan Novelization

Summary:

This novelization came together with one simple question: What if Alphadream went through with the original plan and added Paper Luigi into the game as a playable character? This story revolves around that thought, along with a lot of headcanons with it.

Chapter 1: Pt.1

Chapter Text

Just when you think the world's original...it changes in an instant.

The world isn't what you can see it as. It only relies on what you think, not what you see. Just like the truth. It only relies on sight, not hearing.

What do you see your world as? A sanctuary? A prison? A haven? The world can be three of those things or something much bigger. Whether the world is bad, or good it's still a world worth living in. Changing the world is a task that lasts for a lifetime. Some people will help you...or people who will be against you.

It's not always possible to change an opinion about the world. If they can see that the smallest in the world matter the most then they can see the truth. If not...they'll live a life that will be too late to change. The world isn't perfect, and that's okay. Perfection doesn't exist. It's only about giving the most effort you can.

Life is fragile. If you aren't careful with the way you live that life will shatter into millions of pieces, pieces that you can't stick back together. They'll be apart for an eternity even when that life ends. Pain is being human, but if you hold onto it too much not only will you change your life...

You'll change others too, the people you hold close.

If you don't feel pain, you won't feel human. It's okay to feel pain, but it's not okay to put it onto others. Putting your pain onto people will just give you more pain. That pain will hurt you more than it does the people you give hurt too. People think they know what true hurt is...but do they?

True hurt doesn't come from a scratch from an animal, a bruise from a punch, or a sore ankle from a trip-and-fall. True hurt can come from even just the closest people to you. Voices can be a weapon. And the words coming from those voices can be an even more dangerous weapon. Choosing your words carefully is just a risk.

What can you do about this weapon? You fight back. Sometimes you can dodge the weapon and run. But taking the risk and fighting back can sometimes put your mind at ease if it goes right. If it goes wrong...you just have to think of an alternative, a logical alternative.

Every world exists in its unique way. But not every world is good. Where there's good...there's also bad. The people in those worlds also live in that kind of order. You can't have order without chaos. You can't have good without bad.

You can't have one without the other. That's how existence works. But what happens when one and the other meet?

In an old room at the top of the castle, it was dark. The only faint light that appeared was when the two doors opened, but it was still dim. The person who walked into the room was a toad. He looked around for a moment, only to feel the cold air in the room. He looked back at the entrance.

"You feel that draught?" He asked, talking to the person who stood by the entrance, shivering in nervousness. The toad looked around again. "There's a hole somewhere in the wall, and it's letting in the cold air. Brrr! Hmm...is it coming from over here?"

The toad looked at the person who was still shivering.

"Don't be scared, Luigi!" The person, Luigi, walked into the room and looked around nervously. He wasn't too fond of the dark, especially with a certain event that played in his mind for a moment. The toad noticed the scared expression on his face.

"Are you scared of the dark Luigi?" Luigi nodded his head, too nervous to speak. "Hmm. I see what you mean...it is a little creepy in here." From the corner of his eye, the toad saw the window that the curtains were over. He walked over to the window and opened the curtains, letting in the light. Luigi felt more at ease.

"All better, Luigi?" He asked him, walking back over to him.

"Yeah, thanks Toad." He nodded his head. "So about that draught..."

"Yeah. Where is it coming from?" The duo both looked around for a few moments, but Luigi saw something suspicious on one of the shelves. It looked like a book, but it seemed off. It didn't look like any of the other books beside it. Luigi wanted to get a good look at it...

"Aha! There it is!" Snapping out of his thoughts, Luigi looked where the Toad was looking at. There was a small hole in the wall. It was probably the size of a normal Goomba.

"It's pretty high up...and my legs are pretty short..." Luigi looked at the Toad's feet as he said that. Where? Did he even have legs? He just saw feet. "I don't think I can reach it by myself."

"Then let me check it out for you." Luigi volunteered. "That's what you got me for. So, just leave it to me!"

"You will? Thanks, Luigi!" The toad smiled. Luigi walked over to the box and the shelf and jumped onto the box, but when he jumped onto the shelf he gasped seeing something crawl out and hide by two boxes.

"Toad! I just saw a mouse up here!" Luigi panicked a little.

"What? A mouse? I must've missed it." Toad shrugged his shoulders. "Anyway, you're not scared of a little mouse, are you?"

"Pfft...o-of course not!" Luigi tried to say confidently. "I've dealt with worst before. J-Just a small, fast, mouse isn't compared to any of that."

"Right. So, please finish checking out the hole in the wall." Toad urged. Luigi sighed as he shook his head.

"Fine..." He cautiously walked towards the wall. He got into his fighting stance as he stared at it, being ready in case any more of them pop out. The Toad sweatdropped seeing this.

"Um..." He started. "Quick messing around Luigi! Can you please see if that's where the draught is coming from?"

"Okay, okay..." Luigi dropped his guard. "But if any more pop out I'm blaming you for this!" He took a deep breath and let it out, trying to calm himself down. "Alright...let's see what we're working with..."

He hesitated for a moment before he looked inside. It wasn't as dark as he thought it was. Dim, but not completely pitch black. But just as the Toad thought he could feel the draught.

"Yep! I think this is where it's coming from Toad!" He said. But he didn't get an answer. "Toad-" "HEEELP!"

"!" Luigi quickly took his head out of the hole. "Toad?! What's-OH GOSH!" As soon as Luigi turned around he saw the Toad being chased by a Scaredy Rat. No wonder Luigi was scared. It wasn't a mouse at all. The Toad was being cornered against the wall...until he decided to jump up to where Luigi was.

"You liar-whoa!" The Toad shoved Luigi a little so he could get behind him. Luigi lost his balance for a moment as he was about to fall off the edge, but he managed to regain his balance just fine. He sighed in relief as he wiped his forehead.

"Um, Luigi..."

"Hm?" He looked at the Toad.

"You know it's right behind you, right?"

"Huh?" Confused, he turned around and screamed as he saw it. But what the Toad or even the rat didn't expect was for him to jump high enough to hit the ceiling and to fall face first onto the floor.

"Ow..." Luigi did hurt a little, but regardless he could easily jump onto his feet. The Toad looked down at him.

"Are you okay Luigi?" He asked concerned.

"Yeah, don't worry." He assured. "I'm fi...fi..." The dust that appeared when he fell to the floor managed to get into his nose. "Ah...ACHOO!" When Luigi sneezed he felt himself being pushed back onto the shelf as he and the Toad fell onto the floor as the Scaredy Rat ran away. Luigi tried to sit himself up, but something heavy fell on his head and dropped in front of him, making him fall back down onto the floor.

"Ow ow ow..." The Toad was the first to recover as he rubbed his head and stood up. He looked over at Luigi, who looked a little dazed as he sat up. "Snap out of it, Luigi!"

"Huh?" Luigi shook his head, getting rid of the dizziness he was feeling and he put his hand on his head. The Toad put his hand on his shoulder.

"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly. "You hit your head against the shelf there."

"I'm okay," Luigi assured, standing up. However, when they both looked down at the book their eyes widened seeing it open automatically as it was shining bright. The duo both looked at each other for a moment before the light turned into multiple colors. The Toad ran behind Luigi, who put his hand out in front of him protectively.

Multiple paper characters came flying out from the book. Goombas, Toads, Koopas, every. single. enemy that Luigi and Mario fought were all coming out. They all burst out from the roof and began floating and scattering all around the kingdom. Luigi and Toad both ran over to the window as they saw all the paper figures floating down into the areas.

In the town where the toads lived. The residents were minding their own business until they all began to notice all the Paper Toads floating down into the town, into different areas. There were too many to count.

All right! Goombas, fall in!"

In another area, multiple goombas were in front of the Goomba who have them the command. However, what surprised the Goomba was he was seeing the Paper Goombas in the small crowd. He was surprised, but a little impressed at the same time.

"Huh..." He didn't exactly know what to say about this. "I guess we got a bunch of new recruits."

In a snowy area, a red Paper Toad hopped onto their feet and they looked around confused, yet scared at the same time.

"Where am I?" They wondered. A regular red Toad and a Blue toad both approached him in awe and surprise.

"Hey! You're flatter than a flapjack!" The Red Toad exclaimed to them. Only a few feet away from them a blue Paper Toad was surrounded by three regular toads. A red one, a blue one, and a yellow one. The blue Paper Toad was looking at the three scared.

"You guys are rounder than that snowman!" They exclaimed as another red toad came over to them.

"Okay!"

In a desert area, four Koopas were looking at eight Paper Parakoopas. But the four didn't look confused, nor did the Paper Parakoopas. They looked excited.

"Show us that move again!" One of the Koopas exclaimed excitedly. The eight Paper Parakoopas flew up, stacked each other, and one at a time they all flew down straight as the koopas cheered. When they all came back, one of the Koopas walked in front of them.

"Welcome to Team Bowser, new recruits!" He exclaimed enthusiastically. "With that attack, you'll chew right through Mario!"

"I'm pretty sure books aren't supposed to do that, right?"

Back in the attic, Luigi and Toad had complete surprise on their faces. They never expected anything like this to happen. What kind of book is that anyway? Did it carry another world? An alternate universe? What just happened?

When Toad turned around, he looked up at the ceiling and his eyes widened.

"L-Luigi...?" Luigi looked down at the Toad and he pointed up at what he was staring at. Luigi gasped as his eyes widened as well.

"N-No...way..." Luigi took a step back, putting his hand on the seat of the window. "Is that...?" They were both staring at a very familiar paper figure that was floating down toward them. Even though it was dark from where they were standing they could still see the paper figure very clearly.

"I...can't believe what I'm seeing!" The Toad spluttered. "Is that her...?"

"Yep..." Luigi gasped, slowly nodding his head. As soon as the paper figure landed on the floor the duo both looked at each other in complete awe and wonder. But with Luigi, he knew what was going to come out of this;

Another adventure, but with two worlds colliding.
