Work Text:
There was something about the song my mother always plays on her piano that made me nervous. It had a beautiful yet depressing melody that sent chills down my spine. She wrote it herself. One morning when she had finished her song I asked her about the tune, she said to me
"I've named the song Crumbling Dreams sweetheart, It's based on my life". Then she walked away and that was that.
There's something about the way my mother talked to father that made me anxious. Her voice changed from a tired but cheerful motherly tone to a cold and scared whisper. She never said to much to him, then again he never said to much to her either. When I asked her why she seemed so nervous around father she said to me
"Your father is not a good man darling. Do me a favour and never marry someone like him when your older". Then she walked away and that was that.
There's something about the day I last saw my mother that makes me uneasy. That night when my older brothers were out, mum was getting ready to leave for her shift. She worked as a nurse at the hospital down the road. She was nervous that night as the car had broken down and was afraid to walk alone in the night. Father offered to walk with her there so she'd arrive safely, though she seemed incredibly nervous at accepting the offer. Mother said she thought I shouldn't be alone as I was only five and that she could just take time off work until the car was fixed. Father insisted I'd be fine and my brothers would be home soon anyway. He took her hand (rather forcefully) and escorted her out of the house. I waited all night. Mother and father never came home. The next day father came back. He smiled at me and hung up his coat. It had a splatter of some kind red light on it. It smelled slightly metallic. When I noticed I suggested he wash the coat, so he doesn't still have ugly red stain on it when he goes to work the next morning. As he was about to go put the coat in the washing machine. I asked him where my mother was. He said to me
"Your mother was a strange woman honey, she just... Ran off... I'm sure she'll be back soon". Then he walked away and that was that.
