Work Text:
I am trembling while writing this. I don't know what just happened, but something is watching me. It is watching me type this, watching my every move, and it's coming from the computer. I'm on a phone, and I just have to share what just happened to me.
A few hours ago, someone pinged @everyone in a discord server I'm in dedicated to leaking FNF mods. Now, I know that sounds bad, but this isn't the point. The person, going by Adync, linked a google drive download titled "1.2 GAPPLE BUILD."
I know this mod, it's very bad, and the inspiration behind it isn't very well made either. But who cares, we just wanted to see what the hell it was anyways. Some users just trashtalked the mod, and I laughed along, but now we get to the main shit.
I click on the drive download, downloading the crappy mod onto my computer. I press allow, ignoring Windows' warning, and boot up the game. It starts off with the main menu, save files and all. I guess they stepped up their game, I said in my head. I go to the first song, "Disruption." It begins, the notes start spinning, though the song looks a bit off. Disruption didn't usually look this bleak, but I shrug it off. It was probably just another sprite update, trying not to be mid and all.
The song intro finally ends and.. The vocals are.. Quiet. The instrumental is blasting over the vocals. I chuckle in my head, wondering if they can make the bad mod even worse. I realize something. The sprite of the Disruption Bambi is slightly faded, almost like the song was ending and the character was disappearing. Again, I shrug it off, but I should've realized sooner something was wrong, and not in the horror FNF mod way, no, it wasn't supposed to be like this. The song randomly ends at the 1:34 mark, and I get confused. I was doing good, right? I scroll down on the main menu, and press enter on the titular Applecore, the song the mod is infamous for.
It's labeled extreme, and I already know why. The spamming, the ridiculous forced ghost tapping shut off, and the spinning notes at the end, but I continue. The song starts and I see Bandu, mindlessly floating around in the skybox. Unlike the rest of the mod, Bandu was brightly colored and seemed normal, only this time missing his left eye for some reason. He does his intro, and I use my ASKL keys to easily beat the first part. The game freezes for a moment, that's fine, my computer is bad anyways, and continues on. Going into the second phase, Disruption appears, Bandu swears, yadda yadda.
Disruption Bambi still looked like what he looked like in his own song, only slightly paler. I don't mind, it's probably just a new addition to Applecore, the build was unfinished anyways. Disruption's vocals are still quiet, Bandu and the instrumental drowning him out. Whatever. The skybox turns red and I finally make it to the last phase, Expunged. Disruption gets sucked up, but Bandu just- just fades into nothingness. I notice that Expunged looks not as "unhinged" as it's old version, but again I think it's just a new addition to the mod. Somehow, Expunged's vocals are also oddly quiet, and I groan in disappointment. How can a mod be this bad? What were they thinking? Finally, I complete the song, somehow, only this time the game freezes completely and crashes. Damn it, all of my progress is gone. I open Discord again, looking at the users being confused about the constant crashing and complaining and cheering that the mod is bad.
Funny, huh? Adync started typing in the chat again, and left a message saying "its stll in work in progress dont shit on it too much guys lolllll".
I think about how Bandu was the only one presumably being the odd one out, but I shrug it off, opening the mod again and playing a new song in freeplay, titled Cuberoot. Some of the users were talking about how it sounded good for a "bad mod," so curiousity got the better of me. The notes start floating and the song begins. Instrumental, again, drowning out the vocals of both Dave and Bambi. Both of them, also appearing pale. I pause the song and type in the chat: "Is anyone else getting quiet vocals?" Users respond no, for some reason. I guess I'm just the unlucky one. Again, I think about how Bandu was the only normal one, and I close the game and open the files.
I go into the game's files and completely remove any trace of Bandu. I know this was a bad idea, the game would probably just crash, blah blah blah, but I didn't care! I could just redownload it anyways. So I open the game and there's no music. Nothing. But the mod wasn't crashing! That was a good sign, right? I decided to check out Applecore to see if the game would crash, but it didn't. The game froze for a second, and a new song loaded in. Something not in the files. What the fuck? The notes loaded in, only being visible for the player. It was completely pitch black, with only Boyfriend just bopping his head to the non existent audio. Then, the song started. I looked in the left corner, and it was titled "Moʍ¡¡ Ɔɐupᴉǝz". Strange.
Then.
It appeared.
An amalgamation of what could only be described as Bandu and his origin form appeared, veins almost all over its body, pumping with whatever the fuck it has for blood. My face morphs into what of disgust, and shock, being unable to pause the song or click out of the window. Its vocals are Bandu's, yet horribly distorted and almost screeching at that. The voice is grating, drowning out the instrumental surprisingly, and almost blowing out my fucking eardrums. I turn the song down and sing my parts. The song kind of reminds me of Monochrome, since it was a "secret" song and a bit disturbing. "Bandu" says a voice line, I make it out to be "Deez candies" or something, I don't know, maybe it was just a coded in song for when you deleted a file, something like DDLC. The game freezes, and my computer's fans are getting louder by the second. I open task manager and realize the window is eating up all of my CPU, so I forced end task and let out a large sigh.
Without warning, the game opens up again, only this time it was "Bandu" staring directly at the screen, slightly glitching, and eye bulging out. A notepad file opens, and it begins typing out. "I am Oriban. I can be trusted. Please let me out. Do not delete my file." At this point I was kind of freaking out, did I just fucking download malware onto my computer? God fucking damn it. I close the notepad file and go to the game's files again, watching "Oriban's" face slowly turn into that of anger when I select all of the Bandu files. Mind you, that none of the "Oriban" sprites and XML existed, or the song. I delete Bandu's files, and the game crashes. I sigh in relief, though the feeling of dread was still looming over me. I @'d the leaker, asking "wtf is your problem" going on about how they just made me download a virus, but Adync didn't know what I was talking about. I ask anyone else if they could delete Bandu's files and see if the same thing happens to them. Nobody.
None of this happened to anyone else. I start freaking out entirely, asking if anyone felt like they were being watched, some users called me crazy, but some users said yes. Some of my panic went away, but the fucking game opened again and it was a close up of "Oriban."
"you shouldn't have done that" The notepad window displays, and the game crashes yet again. I finally go into the files and delete the 1.2 build off of my comptuer entirely, and putting my head in my hands. I downloaded some kind of horror virus, and now my PC was probably gone for good. A notepad file opens.
"Ysk. I'm still here. I'm going to get out."
I turn off my computer and jump on my bed. Here I am, typing all of this out on my poor phone, hoping, BEGGING, anyone to help me. What the fuck just happened, and why was it me. Why am I being watched. And why is it from a FUCKING SHITTY MOD WITH PAINT 3D PEOPLE.
