Work Text:
"Aha, take that!" Miya fist-pumped as he won another round against Reki.
"Damn it!" Reki let the controller fall to his pillow. "You're cheating!"
"Last round you said the problem was the controller and now you're accusing me of being a cheater. Stop being a sore loser and just admit that you suck at this, slime." Miya stuck out his tongue.
Seiichi, whose lap Reki was sitting on, chuckled at that, causing Reki to glare at him. "You're taking his side?"
Seiichi kissed Reki's cheek. "I'm always on your side." Reki blushed a bit at that. "But yeah, he's right, you suck at this."
Reki elbowed him on the ribs.
Miya rolled his eyes at the two lovebirds. "I'm going to the bathroom." He said before getting up from his pillow.
The three were having a sleepover at Reki's house. Miya bought his console so they could play some video games. Langa was also invited, but he said he had already promised to attend flamenco lessons with Adam that night.
Reki grabbed his can of POP COLA and sipped from the straw.
Seiichi’s eyes followed Miya as he walked out of the room. Once he was sure Miya wasn’t within earshot, he turned to his boyfriend. “So, are you aware Miya has a huge crush on you?”
Reki nearly spit out his drink. “What?!” He couldn’t have heard it right. No way did his boyfriend just ask him that.
"Miya has a crush on you." Seiichi repeated.
"He doesn't."
"He does, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to notice. Your other friends probably see it too and you're the last one to know."
Reki shifted in Seiichi's lap so they were facing each other. "We are just friends." The redhead insisted.
"Remember when he asked to take a few sips of your soda and he drank from the same straw as you? He blushed while drinking it because it was like an indirect kiss to him. You didn't see it, but I did."
"So? Miya can't drink soda a lot so he can only take a few sips, that's why he asks me to share."
Seiichi cocked an eyebrow.
"Whatever!" Reki threw his hands up in the air. "Why are you bringing this up? Are you jealous or something?"
“Of course I have reasons to be jealous. That kid could definitely steal you away from me.” Seiichi grinned.
“I honestly can’t tell if you’re being serious or not.”
Reki didn’t get an answer to that as Miya walked back into the room. “What are you slimes talking about?”
“Nothing, nothing, we were just talking about-”
“...how you’re obviously pining for my boyfriend.” Seiichi interrupted him.
“Seiichi!” Reki blushed in embarrassment. He slapped Seiichi on his head before turning to Miya, whose face had turned as red as a tomato.
“Don’t listen to him, Miya, he’s just being an idiot.” Reki was worried that Seiichi had just made Miya uncomfortable with such an idea. He expected Miya to yell at them or leave, but what he got instead was…
“Was it that obvious?” Miya’s eyes were downcast, unable to look at Seiichi and Reki.
Reki’s mouth fell open. Seiichi just stared at him with a big smile on his face. “See, I told you.”
“Miya...” Reki slowly got up and tried to get closer to the smaller boy. “Is it true then?”
Miya finally looked up, his eyes meeting Reki’s. “You didn’t know?” He looked vulnerable at that moment, none of the cocky attitude he had shown all night.
“Nope.” Seiichi replied before Reki could say anything. “And he wouldn’t have noticed unless I pointed it out to him.”
“Why did you tell him?” Miya almost sounded like he was hissing at Seiichi.
“Well, I’m sorry, it was just painful how obvious you were and how oblivious he was.” Seiichi shrugged. “I mean, the ‘can I have a sip of your drink?’ was just the final straw for me.”
Miya’s cheeks got warmer as he remembered that. He looked back at Reki. “Let just forget this, okay? Yes, I have a stupid crush on you, but every kid has those and it eventually goes away, right?” His voice cracked a bit. “Be-Besides, you have your dumb boyfriend and you two slimes clearly love each other and-” Reki placed his hands on Miya’s shoulders.
“I had a crush on you too.” Reki confessed.
Seiichi, who had opened a can of soda while Miya went on his rant, was now the one to nearly spit his drink when he heard that.
“What?!” Both Miya and Seiichi exclaimed in perfect unison.
Reki rubbed the back of his head, him now being the one having trouble looking Miya in the eyes. “It was before Seiichi and I got together. I started spending so much time with you, getting to know you and at some point it hit me that I didn’t just view you as a sort of little brother or just as a friend. I wanted to be more with you.”
Miya let out a little gasp at that. “Then why didn’t you say anything back then?”
“I don’t know why exactly. One of the reasons it’s because you are younger than me and I thought that if you were to date someone, it should be someone the same age as you. I saw how great you and Takashi were getting along, and I kept expecting you to get together because I thought there was something going on between you two.”
Awkward silence fell in the room.
Seiichi, of course, had to be the one to break it. He cleared his throat before speaking. “So, let me understand this. The reason that you two didn’t get together is because neither had the guts to confess to the other? And I could have missed out on the chance to date Reki if you had admitted to liking each other months ago?” He pondered it for a bit, before taking another sip from his soda.
Even more awkward silence.
“What do we do now?” Miya asked in a low voice. Despite him trying not to give away how he was really feeling, Reki could tell this whole situation made him sad.
“I want to remain friends with you.” Reki felt a lump in his throat. “If you want to.”
“Or you two could date.” Seiichi suggested.
Miya and Reki turned their heads so fast to look at him, almost at breakneck speed.
“Now it’s not the time for jokes.” Reki frowned, scolding his boyfriend.
“I wasn’t joking. If you two want to date, it’s fine by me.” Seiichi, for the first time since this conversation started, was talking to them with a serious tone, no joking or sarcasm.
It took some time for Reki and Miya to process what they had just heard.
“So…” Reki pointed at Seiichi. “You’re saying you’re okay with me…”, he pointed at himself, “...getting together with him?”, he pointed at Miya. “Did I hear that right? You would be willing to break up-”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Seiichi waved his hands. “Hold on, I didn’t say we were going to break up. Sheesh, Reki, already want to get rid of me?”
Reki blinked, confused.
“I just said you two could date. As in, you would be dating me and Miya at the same time. If you two agree with it, of course.”
Reki thought about it. Would a relationship like that work between the three of them? Reki could perfectly give attention to both Miya and Seiichi, and he could love them both equally, he was sure of it. But what if Miya didn’t-
“Yes!” Miya said it loudly and all of the sudden, jumpscaring Reki a bit.
Reki turned to him. “You mean ‘yes’ as in…”
Miya nodded his head. “Yes, I want to be with you. I don't mind sharing you with him.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to feel like you’re being pressured.”
“I’m not feeling pressured.” Miya grabbed Reki by his shirt, pulling him close to him. “This is my choice. Now I need to hear you say ‘yes’ too.”
Reki’s blush crept up his face again. Then he smiled at Miya. “Yes.”
Miya smiled fondly back at him, his eyes shining bright. “Can I…Can I kiss you?” He asked.
Reki looked over his shoulder to ask Seiichi. “Is it okay to do this in front of you?”
Seiichi nodded. "Sure. We'll have to discuss some boundaries later, but for now you can go ahead and kiss."
Miya's heart beat so fast as Reki kneeled in front of him, and gently cupped his hands around his face. Reki's hands felt a bit cold against Miya's warm face.
Reki leaned closer, but didn't kiss him, wanting to give Miya one last chance to decide if this was really okay. Miya was the one to close the distance between them.
